We all have a game we play and can’t quite explain why. Some of us have been playing games for so long we have more than one. Way back in 1999 i bought a game called Harvest Moon for the N64. This was because I never found a copy of the SNES version I saw in a magazine years before,and that summer I easily spent hours every day in my room playing it. I was for whatever reason obsessed with making a little more money, planting a few more crops and befriending every villager I could. My mom and dad asked, both of which thought I was insane when I asked for it, asked me why I liked a game about farming so much. To be honest close to 20 years later, I still have no answer.
Not to long ago i heard about a game called Stardew Valley, which was basically this generations Harvest Moon and i was instantly intrigued. So for $15 I picked it up on PS4 and spent the next week logging in the equivalent to a full time job with some over time attached and my obviously now neglected girlfriend asks me why I even bought a game about farming and why I seemed to like it more than most of my other games. Again I have no answer. We all have games like that, games that for some unknown reason seem to drag us into its world kicking and screaming and won’t even let us know why. See I can explain the hundred hours Kerbal Space Program and Elite Dangerous have taken from me and why they will take more in the future.
