Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles PS5 Reviews

Rhapsody is one of those games I missed out on the first time around that I always regretted, but thanks to NIS America tossing out so many remasters and remakes in recent years I have gotten to experience them now,and they have been great about tossing me review codes so it has been extra special working with them.

I haven’t truly been able to compare this one to the original releases, but I’m told this is the best way to experience the second and third games in the series. I can’t confirm that personally however. This is simply my review of THIS version as a first time player.

I started out with part one as you would expect in the Prinny collection and then played 2 and 3 in this release. Two takes place as a sequel to the first game as you play as the daughter of Cornet, Kururu. The turned based battles are nice and as you would expect she also controls dolls just like her mother could. The graphics while not spectacular are nice and have a nice retro vibe to them. It truly was like playing a story book.

Rhapsody 3 was less to my liking, not bad but the story is really just a culmination of the others and takes place before, during and after the. Much of what made 2 fun is still here, and it definitely looks better. The game itself just feels bloated at times for the sake of including everyone for a grand finale and because of this it seemed much of the charm was lost.

Speaking of charm, that is something none of the games are missing. While the games are easy and nothing in the stories will surprise you, they are entertaining and the songs will make you smile. Even the bratty princess Kururu will grow on you quickly as she searches for her prince. These games are a solid 7/10 and fans of retro and JRPGs will want to pick them up. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
