Day 9, Grendel

Grendel is a descendant of the Biblical Cain, the world’s first murderer that killed his brother Abel over God choosing his offering over his brothers. Originally appearing in the epic poem  Beowolf. He is considered evil and cursed by God to never be happy.

The interesting thing about Grendel tho is how his actual description is actually debated since in the original poem he isn’t described really tho he is thought to be human-like. Since than Grendel has appeared in other stories, video games and even movies. Grendel is proof that sometimes you can create something and never know how far it will go. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 8, Sharks

Sharks have been a staple in horror movies ever since Jaws (1975) and never really slowed down. There were multiple movies for Jaws, the Sharknado movies, and a plethora of other B movies involving them. Why? Because a giant creature coming at you while swimming and tearing you to pieces is terrifying. Seriously, look at these things.

Do you want to get hit by that damn thing? I didn’t think so. So lets just not get attacked by sharks, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 7, Bigfoot

Yes Bigfoot, why? Because it probably doesn’t exist in the way people think it does. It is most likely a species of ape that is occasionally seen and since people aren’t familiar with it, the story of Bigfoot grows. There have been over 400 reported sightings, footprints and photos, some proven fake some not. Regardless there is too much evidence out there to dismiss it as a total myth. Here are some links to some interesting articles, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 6, Vampires

Oh vampires, how you have changed over the years. From Bram Stoker Dracula all the way to sparkly dudes in Twilight to everything in between. It is worth noting vampires can be traced back to at least the 17th century. The lore is all over the place as well, from sunlight bursting them into flames to it just making them weak or sparkle. Sometimes they die by fire or a stake through the heart or decapitation.

Part of what makes them so interesting is how they are the hunt what historically is a creature, humans, that consider themselves the apex predator. They are faster, stronger, smarter and damn near indestructible and worse, immortal.

This has also made them pretty romanticized and usually viewed as charming. This for me is why I always thought they were interesting to see how a new twist is put on them. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 5, Zombies

Look, we all knew certain things would show up on this list. Zombies obviously be here. They are classic, shuffling dead beings that number in the hundreds or even millions. That is what makes them so terrifying. How do you escape or defeat something that essentially is an ocean of the dead coming for you that knows no fear, no pain, and no exhaustion.

Also, because I legally can, have what might be the most classic zombie movie of all time.

Seriously, its public domain, if you haven’t seen it sit here and give it a watch. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 4, Annabelle

Day 4 isn’t quite a creature, but it is a creature in the sense that it’s an entity with a real history. By the way that picture is the movie Annabelle next to the real Annabelle from the Warran diaries. Much like Ed Warran tho the history of Annabelle is far less exciting than the real story. It is basically just a possed Raggedy Ann doll.

Supposedly it was haunted by a student named Annabelle. Two people tried to take care of it but it didn’t go so well according to the Warrans and it ended up in their museum out in Connecticut. The reason I like Annabelle so much is because of how different the real story and the made-up story actually are. So go check them out, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 3, Arkansas Gowrow

The Gowrow allegedly native to Arkansas ( its a state in the United States) is what can only be described a huge, 20-foot reptile type creature that eats local livestock. First reported in 1897 and encountered in the Ozark Forest and was given the name Gowrow due to the noise it supposedly made. On two occasions one was supposedly caught, one was “sent to the Smithsonian but never arrived” and the other was due to be “shown for a price” but allegedly escaped just before the reveal. Day 2, Banshee

Banshees are from Irish Folklore and despite popular belief isn’t actually evil. They don’t cause death or kill people, they warn of impending death to family and loved ones. She is still quite terrifying however and it is said she takes on many forms from a beautiful woman wearing a shroud to a headless woman that is topless and carrying a bowl of blood.

The wail, however, seems to be universally scary as hell. I have included some other pics for your enjoyment, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 1, The Lock Ness Monster

Oh, Nessie, the creature of Loch Ness Scottland in the Highlands.  Based on the plesiosaur. I love Nessie because obviously it may or may not exist but because it is one of those long-lived legends. Also, it may be a legit dinosaur which I love. There are some interesting theories out there as to what is in the lake. such as an eel. Long story short on that one, DNA testing of the water shows no giant fish but eels do inhabit the waters of the Loch. There are a number of other theories mostly involving it being other species people aren’t used to seeing. But this is my first pick. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
