Day 7, Bigfoot

Yes Bigfoot, why? Because it probably doesn’t exist in the way people think it does. It is most likely a species of ape that is occasionally seen and since people aren’t familiar with it, the story of Bigfoot grows. There have been over 400 reported sightings, footprints and photos, some proven fake some not. Regardless there is too much evidence out there to dismiss it as a total myth. Here are some links to some interesting articles, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 6, Vampires

Oh vampires, how you have changed over the years. From Bram Stoker Dracula all the way to sparkly dudes in Twilight to everything in between. It is worth noting vampires can be traced back to at least the 17th century. The lore is all over the place as well, from sunlight bursting them into flames to it just making them weak or sparkle. Sometimes they die by fire or a stake through the heart or decapitation.

Part of what makes them so interesting is how they are the hunt what historically is a creature, humans, that consider themselves the apex predator. They are faster, stronger, smarter and damn near indestructible and worse, immortal.

This has also made them pretty romanticized and usually viewed as charming. This for me is why I always thought they were interesting to see how a new twist is put on them. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 5, Zombies

Look, we all knew certain things would show up on this list. Zombies obviously be here. They are classic, shuffling dead beings that number in the hundreds or even millions. That is what makes them so terrifying. How do you escape or defeat something that essentially is an ocean of the dead coming for you that knows no fear, no pain, and no exhaustion.

Also, because I legally can, have what might be the most classic zombie movie of all time.

Seriously, its public domain, if you haven’t seen it sit here and give it a watch. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 4, Annabelle

Day 4 isn’t quite a creature, but it is a creature in the sense that it’s an entity with a real history. By the way that picture is the movie Annabelle next to the real Annabelle from the Warran diaries. Much like Ed Warran tho the history of Annabelle is far less exciting than the real story. It is basically just a possed Raggedy Ann doll.

Supposedly it was haunted by a student named Annabelle. Two people tried to take care of it but it didn’t go so well according to the Warrans and it ended up in their museum out in Connecticut. The reason I like Annabelle so much is because of how different the real story and the made-up story actually are. So go check them out, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 3, Arkansas Gowrow

The Gowrow allegedly native to Arkansas ( its a state in the United States) is what can only be described a huge, 20-foot reptile type creature that eats local livestock. First reported in 1897 and encountered in the Ozark Forest and was given the name Gowrow due to the noise it supposedly made. On two occasions one was supposedly caught, one was “sent to the Smithsonian but never arrived” and the other was due to be “shown for a price” but allegedly escaped just before the reveal. Day 2, Banshee

Banshees are from Irish Folklore and despite popular belief isn’t actually evil. They don’t cause death or kill people, they warn of impending death to family and loved ones. She is still quite terrifying however and it is said she takes on many forms from a beautiful woman wearing a shroud to a headless woman that is topless and carrying a bowl of blood.

The wail, however, seems to be universally scary as hell. I have included some other pics for your enjoyment, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Day 1, The Lock Ness Monster

Oh, Nessie, the creature of Loch Ness Scottland in the Highlands.  Based on the plesiosaur. I love Nessie because obviously it may or may not exist but because it is one of those long-lived legends. Also, it may be a legit dinosaur which I love. There are some interesting theories out there as to what is in the lake. such as an eel. Long story short on that one, DNA testing of the water shows no giant fish but eels do inhabit the waters of the Loch. There are a number of other theories mostly involving it being other species people aren’t used to seeing. But this is my first pick. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Welcome to October

Welcome to October everyone. As you all know every year me and @torstenvblog do something for our favorite month of the year. This month we have decided to go with our favorite monsters and creatures. This isn’t necessarily from movies, they might be from literature or real life or whatever. It will be one a day starting with me today and ending with one from each of us on Halloween. So we hope you enjoy, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Ready or Not (2019)

Ready or Not is the story of Grace (Samara Weaving) marrying the love of her life. Alex Le Domas. (Mark O’Brien) The Le Domas family, however, is the proud owners of a gaming dynasty. It started with a card game made during the civil war and now spans board games and four major league sports teams.

After a beautiful wedding the estranged from his family Alex drops a small detail he never mentioned before. At midnight the day of the wedding, the person entering the family will have to draw one card, and play the game on that card. For example, the man that married a cousin has to play old maid and someone else had to play chess. The rules are always played the way they were traditionally back in the old days of the civil war. This is important for one small reason.

The card our new friend Alex draws is Hide and Seek. So all the doors will be locked for the night, the security cameras shut off and she will hide. She wins by staying hidden until the sun comes up. Of course, she has no interest in hiding that long. Who would? So after she gets bored with hiding and Alex comes to find her and is when she finds out that the game is played because if you don’t pick a card at all you die, and Grace picked the only bad card possible. Hide and seek is the only game nobody wins and it is to the death of the bride or groom.

The movie, however, was not what I expected. From the previews, I saw I was expecting a more thriller-horror style movie and truthfully it is more of a thriller comedy. This isn’t a bad thing, it was just very unexpected to me. The movie was actually really well done and had some great laughs in it. There was never a time I was bored or wondering what was going on. I also appreciated that the story was straight to the point. We got straight to the story and while they were at it they managed to give you all the back story you needed which I feel never happens enough.

The movie is far from perfect obviously but it is a surprisingly fun movie, possibly the most surprising movie of the summer for me. So check this one out when you get the chance. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Empire In Ruins Beta

As many of you know I am a big supporter of this game an the guys over at https://twitter.com/EiR_TD. They are a great bunch and always make time to answer any questions anyone has. So when I got a message saying hey you want to check out the latest beta you guys know I was going to give it a go.

The idea behind this game is pretty interesting. They took a 4X and a tower defense basically and just tossed them together. The graphics are beautiful and the sounds amazing. Personally, it contains one of my favorite songs in gaming, and I don’t mean just on the indy scene, I mean anywhere. Plus baby Savior dances to it and leaves me alone so that is a huge bonus.

The game does tower defense well, it isn’t easy but at no point did I feel like it was unfair. I lost a few battles and realized pretty quickly how it was my own stupidity. All the menus on the mao can be a bit daunting at first but they do an excellent job explaining things I thought. I do have to be fair, I do play games like Stellaris and Imperator Rome so maybe that gave me some advantage.  Regardless it won’t be long before you are making decisions about if you want to help build more food to keep people happy or try to fortify the defenses. Do you want to try to talk those rioters down, or just be a tyrant about it? The choice is obviously yours.

The story tho is where it is at for me. I appreciate Sgt. Hans Heimer and his need to save his booze and wanting to stick it to the system a bit. The dark humor really set this game apart for me from what I am used to playing. The loading screens alone made me laugh, which I have included some screenshots of a couple so you can see what I mean.

The only real issue I ran into while playing I can truly complain about. It is a beta and it easily could be my PC. Occasionally while playing the game would force close at loading screens. I never lost any real progress from this and was just more annoying than anything else but I do feel obligated to point this out tho I am confident this won’t be an issue by the time the game releases assuming it isn’t just my PC being a pain in the..well you get it.  So head over to https://store.steampowered.com/app/604510/Empires_in_Ruins/ and wishlist this bad boy and get in on the early access. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you brandy and glory.
