Father Figures with Ed Helms and Owen Wilson find out on their mother’s wedding day (Glenn Close) that the man they thought was their father,is in fact, not their father.
This sets them off on a road trip to find their real father, Terry Bradshaw, who is actually playing Terry Bradshaw. Maybe. Turns out it could be any number of people.
The premise here isn’t great, but with Helms and Wilson and vast amount of talent here really did pull it all together. That honestly is this movies saving grace. The acting is amazing and everyone involved plays parts that aren’t good well beyond what they should be. There is nothing new here, but the movie is funny and well acted, and that alone makes it worth a quick watch.
Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Every so often comes a movie that is so horrifically bad it circles back around to being good. The story is just bad,the concept is ridiculous, the CGI is so bad we can’t even describe it.
This is one of those movies. I honestly don’t have anything good to say about it. The concept is horrible. It takes place in New Orleans and a series of earthquakes release spiders. Not normal spiders, ancient spiders.
These spiders have evolved to live in lava it seems and breathe fire, because of course they did. They start small, and get a bit bigger and bigger and of course there is a huge one they fight eventually.
This movie was probably made for Syfy channel or something honestly, it’s a true horrible B movie. And everyone should watch this train wreck of a movie. I don’t have anything good to say about it. The acting isn’t great, the spiders look ridiculous and the story has been done to death. It is however fun. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Leave the World Behind starring Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali is a sort of horror thriller about an unexpected apocalypse. Amanda (Julia) and her family need a vacation and rent out a home for the weekend.
While enjoying the beautiful home there is an unexpected knock at the door, G.H. Scott (Ali) and his daughter talking about a black out in the city. Turns out he owns the house and needs a place to stay.
This leads to some racial tension on both sides. Obviously anyone showing up in the middle of the night would cause anyone to be nervous. This is mistaken by Scotts daughter for being specifically racist in nature from Amanda, which seems to be partly true.
As the movie goes on and things get weirder, animals start to disappear, phones stop working more and more questions start to emerge. What country is causing this? China? Korea? You will find an answer within the movie, not within this blog however.
The acting is very well done. At no point did I feel like these weren’t real people with real fears. The tension and chemistry between everyone is fantastic, Julia and the kids really felt like family and the husband truly felt like a guy that might be up to something. I definitely recommend checking this one out. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
This is 40 is a sort of sequel to Knocked Up where Pete and Debbie deal with the unhappy fact of turning 40, having kids that seem to truly hate each other. To make matters worse, someone is stealing from Debs store and Pete’s record label isn’t doing well at all.
This movie shouldn’t be as funny as it is with that premise, yet it somehow is. Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann are great together, and seeing them gaslight Melissa McCarthy might be one of the best things I have seen lately. Both of them say horrible things to her and her son are separate parts in the movie, then in the principles office they magically become perfect parents and nice people. It’s hilarious.
The movie isn’t perfect obviously,it’s a comedy based off another comedy they were minor characters in. And the entire premise is two people are getting older and there is an entire fight based on a dude taking Viagra. The movie definitely should not be taken very seriously. It is just a fun movie, and that is all I expected. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Subservience with Megan Fox, Michael Morrone, and Madaline Zima is one of those movies that has it all and nothing at the same time. Want to see good-looking people ( Megan fox and Michale Morrone ) mostly naked? Deal. Want to see Megan Fox brutally beat the breaks off some dude or kill someone? This movie has it. Want to know the potential dangers of AI in a capitalistic world like America? This movie will perfectly demonstrate how eventually robots might steal every job imaginable and how humans will then rebel and wreck them.
The only real issue I had with the movie was as entertaining as it was, which I have said before is all a movie needs to be, is if you saw M3gan Unrated review you basically saw this. The premise is basically the same. An AI-powered robot that is meant to make life easier gets far too attached to someone in the family, in Megan, it was the daughter in Subserviance to the husband, and starts doing insane stuff to make them happy or protect them including killing people. Even the endings are quite similar in many ways. I don’t mean this as an insult, I enjoyed both movies quite a bit, in fact, I recommend watching them both. It would however be quite dishonest to say they aren’t similar. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Godstone from DemendPlant is a game I came across on Blue Sky from a solo dev that looked rather, well to be honest infuriating. It is a roguelike dungeon crawler that might just become your next obsession as you battle both minibosses and level bosses in what will surely be death after death as you enjoy a story of betrayal and secrets. You can try a demo and wishlist it on Steam now. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one. I will get back to you with more once I give the demo a shot. I was just really excited to let you guys know this is out there. Best wishes, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Leave The World Behind, a movie adaptation of the book by the same name, which, no, I did not read and have no intention of reading. Yes people that read the book,I’m sure the book is better. You always say that. This movie clocks in at about 2 and a half hours, so I doubt the 9 weeks it would take me to slog through the book would be better.
This movie was weird for me. Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali were fantastic in this movie. They all were. The story itself is great. A family goes on vacation to get away from a life that’s making their parents miserable. The kids are enjoying themselves. It’s well acted.
Two strangers show up telling tales of a black out which may or may not be true, they may or may not be the owners. There’s some slight racism going on with Julia Roberts’character but it’s kind of understandable given the situation so maybe it isn’t racism it’s just healthy skepticism.
The problem I have honestly was with the pacing of it all. This move felt like it lasted 4 hours. By the time Kevin Bacon’s character shows up again I forgot he was even in the movie to begin with. His scene was pretty tense and his character was very necessary. If the movie was a little shorter I may have even been wondering where he was.
The movie does have a fantastic story and I don’t want to spoil stuff for you. You will notice I haven’t really said much about anything you won’t see by reading a movie poster. And I will still recommend watching this movie because while it feels long it is worth checking out. Just make sure you bring a drink and popcorn. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Honestly if you have ever seen any Romantic Comedy with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston you know what this movie was about. Adam got his heart broken by a woman, he does some insane shit for years.
He meets Jennifer Aniston, this time she works for him. He meets a woman he actually loves, he convinces Jen to help him fix the horrible situation he created. Some will they won’t they ensues.
Happy Fake Family
The movie has its funny moments but the real star here is just the overall chemistry that Adam and Jennifer have. I always enjoy their movies together because they just seem to enjoy being around each other. It would be super weird to find out they actually hated each other at this point. Shout out to the kids for playing their parts well. The movie is a must see for romantic comedy fans. It doesn’t break any new ground, but it does the entire genre well. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Sometimes I wait so long to see a movie I forget it exists, then I watch it and I am left wondering why the hell I waited so long to see it.
This is one of those movies. I have a lot of questions, for example how nobody noticed they created a self aware robot. Why did it take so long to figure out it was killing animals and people?
Don’t get me wrong,I grew up watching Child’s Play. Chucky is the king of murderous toy dolls. But damn M3gan is absolutely a close second. From the very start you get a feeling that this doll isn’t quite right, and it gets more and more out there as the movie goes on.
It starts simple with things like Megan doing things she isn’t really programmed for,but believably happens by coincidence. Toys say weird stuff when they are just talking. Most of us had Furbies growing up.
It isn’t long though until Megan figured out that her job is to protect Cady, her paired child that recently lost her parents. How do you prevent the dog that bit her from biting again? Well you kill it. Boy picking on her in the park? That’s gotta go too.
Part of what makes this movie rather freaky however is that in theory, this could happen on some level. Probably not to this extreme, but the idea that someone wouldn’t notice it is plausible.
Either way it is a great movie and one worth checking out. Best wishes and may the Gaming gods bring you glory.
Oh monsterverse we meet again. As a life long Godzilla fan, way back to watching the original movies with my dad when it was just a guy smashing toys while wearing a rubber suit until today watching them with my children I have always loved Kaiju. I remember watching Kong scale the Empire State Building in awe as planes attached to strings shot him and the two fight each other. Seeing them together will always bring a smile to my face.
Now something new brings a smile to my face. It’s this picture.
Like a cat,if he fits he sits.
The real question is how does it hold up to all the other movies in the monsterverse? Well simply put very well. The movie starts out with Kong out on patrol of his territory in the Hollow Earth searching for more of his own kind, suffering from of all things a sore tooth.
This will eventually lead him to the surface which worries humanity as after our last movie there is a deal between kings and Godzilla, kong stays below and Godzilla stays above. Each has their own territory and they don’t encroach on the others domain.
That is until a new hole and area of the Hollow Earth opens up and Kong discovers he is no longer the last of his species. There is a whole lot of them left under the tyrannical rule of the Skar King and his pet the titan Shimo which is honestly just ice breathing Godzilla.
The movie is largely following Kong and a child of his species as they bond and attempt to free their species from Skar, and when Kong loses his fight and is greatly injured he attempts to enlist Godzilla to help in his fight. I won’t spoil the details of how this comes to pass, but anyone familiar with how the Godzilla franchise has always worked knows he has a flight inclined counterpart that has always had the ability to make him see reason and do the right thing.
The action scenes look amazing as they have in all of the movies so far,and while this has been my least favorite of them all so far it was still an entertaining and well made movie worth a watch. Best wishes and may the Gaming gods bring you glory.
