Two Point Hospital Review (PS4)

As always, I would like to thank the ladies over at Clever Communications and the fine folks of Two Point Productions, Bullfrog Productions and Sega and Electronic Arts for this review copy. This one is special to me for a lot of reasons, and I will tell you why before we get started. As a kid, there was a thing called Sega Channel. One of the games I played was a game called Theme Park, and this introduced me to a whole new genre of game. I fell in love with it and played it for days. Eventually, I played a game called Theme Hospital for the original Playstation. I loved that game, and my mother would watch me play for hours. So all these years later for them to make Two Point Hospital, and be chosen to review it, is amazing to me and something if you told me back in 1997 would happen, I would never have believed you.

Let’s start with the bad. As of right now, there is no sandbox mode. This for me was really bad because they did include both the Bigfoot and Pebberly Island DLC. They also did not include the Superbug Initiative. These weren’t oversights however but choices made and they will be added as free updates around the end of March 2020 across all platforms. I just wish they were there from the start. View the video below to see more about the Superbug Initiative.

 

Another couple of bad things I noticed were at times placing items is a bit weird, you should have the space to fit them but because of how the curser works you just don’t really have the ability to get into the tight spot to place it. This is, of course, normal on a console. Killing the bugs in your hospital is also rather a pain for much the same reason.

That isn’t to say the controls are bad, they aren’t. That is a general flaw with all the games of the genre. The controls for  Two Point Hospital are actually quite well done. They are smooth and function well and the graphics are downright beautiful. I love watching the people with the Mock Star illness just dance around the hospital or seeing people with lightheadedness walk around with their lightbulb heads. Seeing them get screwed off and fixed is always fun.

Building rooms is always easy, it is a simple matter of holding a button, spreading out where you want it then picking where items go. It is also super easy to simply copy a room if you need a 2nd room. This is important to me because it shouldn’t be a hassle to build multiple GP offices for example.

The sound is also great, my favorite part is listening to random announcements from reception. For example, if the hospital is dirty she will apologize about the litter the patients dropped on our floor, and if the hospital is haunted she will tell people not to feed the ghost since they are already dead.

Everything about this game is designed to be humorous and it succeeds easily. The best part about this is while it is clearly a spiritual successor to Theme Hospital there are many things different and improved on. I am hoping this is the first of many Theme games in this universe, and this one is a must buy. I don’t believe in perfect scores and will probably never give one out, but if a game ever came close that I’ve reviewed this is it. easily a 9/10. Langrisser 1&2 Review (PS4)

As always, first and foremost, thank you, everyone, over at NIS America for hooking me up with a review copy of these games. I say games because while you buy them together they are two games in the same series.

First I will get the stories out of the way. In Langrisser 1 you play as Prince Ledin. After your home country is attacked you set out to retrieve the sword that was stolen and you are bound to protect as it can be used to unseal the forces of darkness.

In Langrisser 2, you play as Elwin, a man trapped between two warring factions and it will be your job to figure out the best way to bring peace to the world.

The games themselves play basically the same way. They are strategy RPG’s from the bygone era when the likes of Shining Force and such were just getting started. You move your characters across the map and different characters are better against other unit types. Enemy charging you with horses? Defend yourself with spearmen. Counter spearmen with regular infantry or take down those pesky flying enemies with bowmen. Is it better to take down individual soldiers one at a time or to aim for enemy commanders so the whole squad retreats? These are all choices you will have to make in each battle and those choices I never got tired of making.

This game has seen many upgrades from the original version from sound to visuals and even new characters. This helps when you are trying to see the over 20 endings both games offer and well over 500 outcomes for each character. The games have great replay value and as a fan of old fashioned RPG’s like this, and someone that missed the original release I truly appreciate the ability to bounce between the remastered and original art styles. This is one of those series I didn’t know I missed or wanted until now, and I am happy I found out. The game is beautiful, the sound is great and any fan of the genre should pick it up. 9/10 from me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Blood Of Steel Delayed

Evolution Studio, Chinese-based development studio of YC Games have announced that free-to-play MOBA Blood of Steel will not launch today as previously planned, due to public holidays in China being extended in order to suppress the effect of the Coronavirus. This delay has had a knock on effect on the development cycle, meaning that extra time is needed to add the final polish to the game.

The studio explained that “development has stopped and the team is still holding off at home, so the scheduled release in February would not be possible. The new release date is TBD but the team will try to make it happen in Spring”. Blood of Steel was initially scheduled for release on February 20th.

In Blood of Steel, you command the army of a legendary commander from world history to conquer cities and expand your territory against other players online to ultimately rule the world. Set throughout the Middle Ages, players choose from multiple authentic battlefields as they engage in 5-v-5, 7-v-7 or 10-v-10 legion-based battles, with each individual player allowed to lead up to 40 AI soldiers. Clever use of terrain, management of different troop types and adapting to dynamic weather systems incorporating variables such as rain and snow are the keys to victory. As well as the  legion-based warfare, players can play a one-on-one duel in PvP battles in the Heroes Arena, offering them a chance to truly show their mastery of the complex fighting system.

Blood of Steel has been out in China for 3 years since it’s initial closed beta, and has accumulated more than 20 million downloads. With over 100 thousand DAU players on the Chinese server already, Blood of Steel is ready to officially join the global market with the upcoming English version, coming to Steam. Over the past 3 years the development team have introduced a greater diversity of heroes and improving the balance of the game fully preparing it for the global market.

Blaze Revolutions (Preview)

Developed by Little Chicken Game Company, Blaze Revolutions is an RTS set in a dystopian future, where the totalitarian SomaCorp surveys all, pollutes the environment and rules through misinformation campaigns. It’s up to you to cultivate your product, hack drones, evade SomaCorp surveillance and manage your resources as you turn this grassroots movement into an eco-friendly empire!

Othercide (Preview)

Focus Home Interactive and Lightbulb Crew have revealed that the gothic tactical RPG Othercide will come to PlayStation®4, Xbox One and PC this summer. Othercide marries the dark art design and world-building of the horror genre with the deep systems and challenges of a strategy game for a truly gripping experience.

Backbone (Preview)

Raw Fury has announced a new publishing partnership to launch indie developer EggNut’s highly anticipated noir adventure game Backbone on consoles and PC platforms in early 2021. Howard Lotor is a private detective working a routine missing person case in a dystopian, alternate history Vancouver. But what Howard stumbles upon thrusts him into a disturbing hunt for the truth.

A blending of cinematic adventure and immersive branching dialogue inspired by classic CRPGs, Backbone explores mature themes in a city of anthropomorphic animals where species dictates social class. Sniff out clues and evidence, interrogate a diverse cast of characters, solve stealth puzzles, and choose which leads to follow. Backbone delivers a unique universe based on the real Vancouver, brought to life with a stunning modern pixel art aesthetic and original dark jazz soundtrack.

Neko Ghost Jump Preview

Solo developer Burgos Games has unveiled the first full-length Neko Ghost, Jump! gameplay trailer, showcasing the unique perspective switching mechanic that distinguishes this feline-based puzzle-platformer from the litter. Slated to arrive later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Windows/Linux), PAX East and DreamHack Anaheim attendees will be able to play an extensive demo sampling several stages from the beta build.

Neko Ghost, Jump! is a pawsome puzzle-platformer that tasks you with switching between 2D and 3D planes as they guide Nekoman on an epic quest to rescue his kidnapped friends and family from the dastardly Space Pirate Dog Boss and his minions. This odyssey will take Nekoman across several biomes ranging from grassy plains, to snowy tundras, to sweltering deserts and beyond. Along the way you’ll have to not only switch between 2D and 3D planes, but also to your spirit form to take out any baddies along the way as you pounce across a series of entertaining yet challenging cathletic obstacles!

Neko Ghost, Jump! will run the gamut from an accessible family-friendly affair to a furmidable challenge for more masochistic players. Each stage will rank you on speed, while collecting coins will claw some time off your counter. Blast through each level to ascend the leaderboards and prove your worth as the fastest feline on the prowl! Shedding seconds off the clock isn’t all coins are good for, as you can also use them to customize your Nekoman’s appearance. Give him sweet specs, a dapper hat, or some shiny bling. It’s up to you hepcats!

“I wanted to make something with a unique enough hook that would appeal to many people,” said Burgos Games founder Victor Burgos. “Plus cats are cute. Can’t go wrong with that, right?”

Hardspace: Shipbreaker

Focus Home Interactive and Blackbird Interactive, the studio behind Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and the upcoming Homeworld 3, have revealed Hardspace: Shipbreaker, a new sandbox space sim coming to Steam Early Access this summer. As a salvager armed with cutting-edge tech, you’ll carve up massive spaceships piece by piece in zero G for cold hard loot. Get your first look at the game’s creative demolition and true-to-life physics:

Early access will launch with a variety of exciting features to discover, including the first act of the story campaign, two classes of spaceship to salvage, and multiple upgradeable tools and perks. Throughout early access, the team plans on releasing new spaceship classes, missions, challenges, leaderboards, modding support and much more based on feedback from the community.
