Overkills The Walking Dead Cancelled

Due out, well last month on consoles, the last we heard of this long-awaited game it is was delayed by now Bankrupt developers Starbreeze Studios was due to lackluster performance in every capacity on PC. Now Skybound Entertainment, the company that licenses to make The Walking Dead Games, has pulled the license from Starbreeze and has canceled the game in its entirety. For those interested in a bit more info, Polygon has you covered. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Valve Retires Non-Gaming Steam Content

Variety reports that Valve will be getting rid of its video section and a bunch of stuff will be pulled since apparently, most people don’t seem to care. This doesn’t really surprise me since honestly it is gaming launcher and people use it to play games and with a growing number of launchers out there, most notably the Epic Games launcher they really will want to streamline things for customers. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dragon Quest XI Nintendo Switch

No there isn’t something wrong, yes it says Dragon Quest XI for the Switch and there is an 8-bit graphics picture. Why? Well because now confirmed for a worldwide release and will have the ability to switch the graphics to an 8-bit look. For more info check out The Verge. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Final Fantasy 9 Out For Switch, 7 Out Soon.

For those Final Fantasy fans out there, Nintendo will once again make you love them and piss some of you off. First, Final Fantasy 7 will be out March 26th which is exactly what we needed. Final Fantasy 7 on another platform. (sarcasm) Before that tho, we get Final Fantasy 9, which launched already, that day, in fact, on another platform. Because on every platform known to man almost wasn’t enough. They did, however, skip, once again, Final Fantasy 8. Don’t get me wrong I own 7 and 9 and I did on both PS one and I do on PS4. Also owned 7 on PC, so this isn’t about hating either game, I think 7 is one of the most influential of all time and both can be argued to be two of the all-time greats. My real issue is that once again Final Fantasy 8 is skipped even tho this year, and more precisely this month is the 20th anniversary of the release of FF8. Now I understand why in theory, supposedly they lost much of the original PlayStation releases code and they can’t simply port the PC version over, so there is, in theory, a valid reason, but it still sucks. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mario Maker 2 Announced For The Switch

If you can’t get enough of creating insane levels to torture other people with, your time has come. Well, will come this June. I have honestly never tried these out, but I can’t imagine more Mario being a bad thing. Check out the trailer below. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

New Tropico 6 Release Date

Not too long ago, much to the dismay of many the PC release of Tropico 6 was delayed for an undisclosed amount of time. Well, Kalypso Media has given us a release date. March 29th, 2019 and as an added bonus if you preordered before 7 p.m. (CET) January 10th, 2019 you will get the first DLC planned or 2019 free. I know the wait sucks, but not a bad trade-off really. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Sony Sells over 91 million Systems

As the clock ticks down on this generation of consoles and rumors fly about next-gen leaks and specs, Sony passes the 91 million units sold mark according to Techradar. These numbers seem to be slowing down, for example, they sold around 800 thousand more this time last year.  Unless there is a sudden massive drop off, this will be the year Sony passes the 100 million mark which is pretty cool. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Xbox Live on IOS Android and Switch?

Yes you read that headline right, and yes it sounds pretty weird but that is the rumor going around due to a session description for a 2019 game development conference. Polygon has more of the finer details about who and how many, but for me, this is both exciting and weird. It could be interesting to be able to combine your online friend’s list to see who is playing what across console or even on the go. Maybe even the potential of Achievements for mobile and Nintendo games? Now all of this is 100% speculation on my part, but it’s all quite exciting. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Why the IGN “Mistakes” Are A Big Deal

Recently in the gaming world, IGN has been talked about quite a lot. This is normal considering they are pretty much the biggest name in gaming news. And yes they have been the subject of many memes and jokes over the years such as the Pokemon too much water incident. For those that don’t know back in 2014 IGN reviewed Pokemon Omega and Saphire a game in a region known for having lots of water and gave it a 7.8 with only 2 main downsides. Too many HMs and too much water.

And since the internet gives approximately 0 fucks about anything this set off a sandstorm of memes making fun of IGN.

Now obviously that is a bit minor compared to more recent mistakes, such as having to fire a reviewer for plagiarism after he stole a Dead Cells review from a much smaller Youtuber. You can read on that at Forbes.

And according to many sources, including oneangrygamer they used the default controls for Ace Combat 7 which give the game a more arcade feel, then complained about the game having an arcade feel to it. It, however, doesn’t end there. They also apparently only played half of Resident Evil 2 Remaster before releasing their original review. They later retracted large amounts of it and bumped up the score tho not by much. Check out more on that over at mainmenu.

Those are just some of the more popular or recent examples of issues over at IGN, and honestly, my title says “Mistakes” because I don’t believe these count as mistakes. A mistake implies you made a conscience misguided decision or didn’t know you were wrong and that doesn’t seem to be the case. Anyone that has ever written a paper in school knows plagiarism is wrong, and having played the original release of Resident Evil 2 they are quite clear about how to start a new game as a different character and even if they weren’t you are a professional reviewer, you have been around games enough you should know what you are doing.

I also can’t in good conscience give a pass on the  Ace Combat 7 incident because any reviewer should be playing games on multiple difficulties at the very least to see how they control. Now for smaller places mine or many of the others on WordPress that are run by one or 2 people chances are there is nobody to check over your work, but IGN has no excuse why two people aren’t playing each game, at least partly for a second person to make sure they aren’t totally dropping the ball.

The sad part of all this is, and I believe Dreamcast guy over on Twitter and many others have said this already, this is happening because they are in a rush to get content out and get their views and clicks and don’t actually care if the content is good, and that will eventually be the downfall of IGN. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
