Elite Dangerous Bounty Hunting

IMG_20170819_110835.jpg

For those that even semi regularly follow the blog you know I recently returned from a trip to Sagittarius A, the center of the galaxy. When I got back I decided to buy a combat ship and take part in the current community goal in Kaal by turning in bounties. So i picked up a Vulture and outfitted it which cost way more than expected. What I got tho was a small ship with way more fire power than I expected for only having 2 hard points even tho both are large. I quickly racked up a few kills and made a few hundred thousand credits and moved up to the top 75% of participants which if I can stay there will give me around 4 million more credits. Ok so I will admit that is not even close to what my vulture cost me, but long term it should pay for itself .

With all that being said I highly suggest every commander get themselves a combat ship and try it out. Its a nice break from trading and exploring and there is some nice money to be made. As always thanks for your time and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Pokemon Y

oie_transparent37_zps4c10c558_display.png

Pokemon X and Y as many of you know was the first in the 3D pokemon games. When I first saw this I was a bit nervous and it did take a bit if getting used to after over a decade of the old style. Within the first couple hours I realised I very much missed the top down look Pokemon works very well in the new style.

Aside from the new visuals the formula of catching little monsters for what is basically animated cock fighting still works. Any fan of the series knows it doesn’t take long for the obsession to collect as many as you can and find the right balance between new mons and old favorites to kick in. And as always the corny story running along side the quest to become league champ is interesting enough to follow but not so in-depth to distract from the main attraction of collecting and battling. The new EV training system was to me the best new addition and it saddens me to see it disappear in Sun and Moon and I hope to see it again. Americas Army: Proving Ground

I was torn when I downloaded this for free on PS4. Part of me doesn’t expect much from free games. However having been in the army I wanted good things. That being said, having served I knew this would be functional but flawed. And that’s really the best way to describe this first person shooter. Functional, but flawed. The controls are pretty standard and while graphically the game is sub par its not bad. The issue becomes where the many glitches come in. Numerous times while attempting to use an elevator it would take 3 and 4 attempts to have it actually work and more then a few times dead bodies would be simply floating in mid air. While floating dead people is easy to ignore the occasional random person floating was not. This normally happens when getting off an elevator, regardless it was still annoying as hell.

Aside from the numerous glitches I came across there really isn’t much to say about the game. It is pretty much average and standard in every possible way. As always thanks for your time, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Medieval Life (Mobile)

ML

I don’t expect much from free games, that is even more true on mobile devices. But this one is just, well bad if I am being honest. There is very little to do, fighting is nothing more than tapping a button as a bar moves in hopes that your bar is higher than theirs. You buy a new weapon as you level up which allows your bar to go higher and you collect money by killing monsters and selling what I can only assume is their bodies. Earning experience is slow, a couple for each kill and more when you buy furniture for your house, and no that is not a joke. I would advise you to avoid this game. As always thanks for your time, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Prison Architect PS4

prison architect

Ever wondered what it would be like to run a prison? Well this game will attempt to let you find out. Whether you want to run a maximum security prison that gives people the chair or a minimum security prison where cells are basically always open is completely up to you. Hire guards, build cells, showers and recreational rooms or whatever else you feel is necessary. Admittedly I had a lot of fun with this game even tho I sucked at it. Watching these weird little people stab each other during prison riots was oddly fun and satisfying tho and without a lot of sim games to choose from on console any fan of the genre should give this a buy, but others should probably stay clear, As always thanks for your time and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Just Cause 3

just cause 3

I was never really tried  this series and since it is free in the month of August on PlayStation plus I obviously needed to try. And outside of some major connection issues that don’t actually mess with game play anyway. The controls aren’t great, shooting isn’t very accurate and any car you drive handles like a tank. It also gets a bit repetitive but it is still fun. The ability to grappling hook yourself into the air switch to your chute to gain altitude then switch to a wing suit to fly is absolutely amazing.

The story is quite vague at first but isn’t bad, but I can’t deny the vast amount of my time was spent screwing around which I am not convinced isn’t the point of this game in the first place. While not the best game I have played recently it was without a doubt a fun experience, one i hope many of you will enjoy. Remember, while you are out there, may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mount and Blade: Warband ps4

mount and blade

Every so often I see a game and I want to try it, but I don’t know enough to risk the money. Normally $20, I got it for $8 this week on sale since admittedly I have blown more on worse endeavors. Maybe its because its not much money that despite the faults of this game, which there are quite a few. The controls are clunky, shooting an arrow is difficult to aim and swinging a sword or staff is basically the prototype for For Honor from Ubisoft. Its stiff and not as well done, but its functional. The visuals are outdated even when it released on PC back in 2008 and while the PS4 version is improved that is not saying much.

With all the negatives out of the way I must admit greatly enjoying this game. See as a guy that loves swords and elves and shit, this game is sort of like a holy grail for me. You get a short tutorial on how the combat works it drops you into the game, alone and with one pretty short mission to get you started you are left on your way to make a name for yourself. Unlike most games you are not a chosen one or even any one of note. You simply are. From here you can hire mercenaries to protect you as you trade, or raid villages and castles or even if you want to attempt to marry a rich woman with land of her own. That being said these options all exist for women, there is even trophies dedicated specifically towards playing as a female character.

The main draw of this game for me is that its a wide open and unforgiving much like earth hundreds of years ago. One wrong move and your army is gone and you are left to start again if you survive. One right move however, and the world is your for the taken. So to you that join me, may the gaming gods bring you glory. And to those that do not, may they bring you even more glory.

Stardew Valley

SDV_twitch_boxart.png

Stardew Valley is basically this generations Harvest Moon. You grow crops, raise animals meet new people etc. I know this sounds really boring. Yet some how its relaxing and i can’t explain why.

The game starts with you being gifted a farm that is pretty run down. Your first day or 2 is spent clearing a small patch of land and planting your first crops. After that you will be meeting new people and getting to know the town. However you can really go a million different directions here.  You may decided to spend your time fishing or diving into the depths of a cave. Personally I love planting crops and raising animals. As always thanks for your time, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

5 Games I Never beat, But I Need To

Everyone has games they started but never finished for one reason or another we just never got around to completing. With that out of the way and in no particular order here are 5 games that I never beat, but I need to.

Mass Effect Andromeda

MEA.jpg

Mass Effect Andromeda got A LOT of shit when it came out for various reasons, and I admit it is without a doubt the worst in the series. Fortunately that is kind of like being the poorest millionaire in a room. This came out right before the next game on this list, which distracted me from Mass Effect,

Persona 5

Persona 5

Persona 5 may be the best games in the past year or 2, and at 100 hours I simply needed a break. Make no mistake, that 100 hours was me playing the game as it was meant to be played. It is very in depth and there are tons of things to do.My only regret is I am yet to go back to it.

Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal

Kerbal is a weird game, and i’m not sure you can actually beat this game. It may be more accurate to say I wish i was good enough at this game to visit more of the planets and moons the game has to offer. Failure tho has never been so much fun.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion

ES oblivion.jpg

This game was amazing, the world was great the lore fun the control were solid, and I never finished the game. Some may ask why not, well  spent 200 hours doing everything except the main story which I played just long enough to deal with the gates. As an added bonus, I never beat Morrowind either, for the same reason.

Final Fantasy 12

FF12

I love the Final Fantasy series. Except this one. The battle system bores me and I can’t seem to get into the story. Tho of all the games in the series this i easily the most debated and not for a good reason. While I have met very few people like this game, the ones that do will defend it to death.

As always thanks for your time, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Fallout New Vegas

fallout new vegas

Many people see New Vegas as the sort of black sheep of the family. I am not one of them. Vegas is probably my favorite of them all. The story of the courier was full of twist, turns, strange individuals and death. Traveling the Mojave was interesting, and seeing what happened to Vegas after the war was fun. While the groups are fun, like one that worships Elvis and walks around dressed like him and talking like him there were other areas that the game improved on from Fallout 3. For example being able to choose different types of ammo was amazing. Some examples of this were armor piercing rounds worked great with a sniper rifle.

The looks of the game were slightly better than its predecessor and the sound set the tone beautifully. the DLC was also fun but admittedly wasn’t as fun as it was in Fallout 3, but that doesn’t mean it was bad. the sierra madre was a pain in the ass sure, but it was an interesting twist on the series. As always thanks for your time, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
