Day of the Dead:Bloodline (2018)

day of the dead bloodline

Day of the Dead:Bloodline is a re-imagining of Romero’s 1985 Day of the Dead, tho it is quite a bit different. While the same general Idea is there about zombies taking over the world and people living in small armed camps that are heavily guarded in order to keep people safe the over all story has changed significantly, and that is actually a good thing.

Rather than trying to do the same thing better they have realized it is hard to beat someone who has already done great, and they have simply tried to be great on their own which is succeeds at nicely. While searching for antibiotics to save a sick girl at a place the doctor used to go to school they discover a legitimate stalker of hers when she was a student that follows her back to base. After discovering he still maintained his human memories of her and that he hadn’t actually turned they captured him and attempted to use him to find a vaccine for the zombie virus, or as they call them rotters.

While it is well-known I am a sucker for a good zombie movie it is also well known I am overly harsh on a bad one. This movie doesn’t fall into either category. You won’t see anything new or exciting here and visually it isn’t anything worth writing about, that being said I can’t honestly say it failed anywhere. The movie was entertaining and the gore looked good and at no point did I feel like I was let down anywhere. It was just a good old-fashioned zombie movie. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Let Me In (2010)

let me in

I watched Let Me In more on a lark than any real interest in watching another vampire movie. After the Twilight movies every one I watch just seems to be trying to hard to reinvent the wheel rather than just improve it. Let Me In however is a rather nice surprise. The movie is a heart wrenching story about a young 12-year-old boy being bullied at school for being quiet and a bit odd back in the 80’s. He has no friends really, and is a rather quiet scrawny child.

One day at night he meets a 12-year-old girl, at night of course. As they strike up an uneasy friendship things get worse at school. The movie continues and as their friendship grows so does Owens confidence. Abby however seems a little off in the world as they visit the arcade, and doesn’t eat candy or really anything.

Owen will eventually learn to defend himself and that Abby isn’t quite as young as she appears, tho we never learn how old she really is.  The movie isn’t even a horror movie tho there is plenty of death. Abby does drink blood, even kills a few people. Getting bit by a vampire but not killed still results in becoming a vampire, as shown when she is interrupted and later when the person turns the victim is shown bursting into flames in the sunlight as a nurse opens the curtains at a hospital. Vampires are quite traditional even needing to be invited inside or risk death.

The movie won’t be for everyone admittedly. It has a lot of down time much of which wasn’t really that great. Others will find the friendship good enough and worth watching, for me I prefer a little more action. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Accepted (2006)

accepted

What are a group of friends supposed to do when you are expected to go to college but you don’t get in? The only logical and sane thing of course. Invent one. South Harmon college, the first ever college invented by students, for students, with no teachers, no curriculum. But that is ok, the website is fake anyway right? Not quite, see when Bartleby enlist his friend Shermen to build a website to fool his parents, Sherman makes a functional website that accepts thousands of students, all of which bring money kicking this make-believe college into high gear.

It isn’t all fun and games tho when the real Harmon college decides to put an end to this in order to by the land for their own use. Forcing South Harmon college to attempt to become a real accredited college.

The movie is fun and interesting but at times comes across as a down played version of a weird combination of revenge of the nerds and animal house. That isn’t really bad, the movie just isn’t all that new. Worth a watch, just don’t except anything new. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Bad Boys (1995)

images

Oh bad boys, this movie on paper shouldn’t work. But you toss in Will Smith and Martin Lawrence and you are pretty much promised a good time. Will and Martin play cops from Miami that now must get back drugs stolen from the precinct before word gets out they are gone while protecting a lone witness to a murder.

The movie is quite honestly a pretty typical cop movie. Two partners with pretty much opposite personalities solve some sort of crime and hilarity ensues. You honestly won’t see much new here, it’s simply how well it is done that matters here. The action scenes are fun and Will and Martin have amazing chemistry together, the kind that just makes you believe these two are real life best friends. It’s another one of those 90’s movies that people look back at with nostalgia for a reason, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Full Metal Jacket (1987)

full metal jacket

Stanley Kubrick and possibly his most famous movie Full Metal Jacket is the story of some Marines and their time at basic followed by Vietnam. Unlike most movies tho this one takes a much more gritty and serious tone. That”s not to say the movie doesn’t have its humor to it or its enjoyable parts because it absolutely does.

As the first part of the movie goes on one trainee, pvt. pyle becomes more and more deranged as he is treated worse and worse by everyone since he is a huge screw up constantly getting everyone in trouble. By the end of basic he is actually a great marine, and insane. He actually kills a few people and himself in the bathroom in what can only be described as one of the more honest takes on PTSD in movie history.

As the movie moves on to Vietnam the movie will take on subjects such as prostitution, the brutalities of the Vietnam war and even the camaraderie among troops that was built. The movie is truly a masterpiece that should not be missed, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mortal Kombat (1995)

Mortal Kombat was one of the many attempts to make a movie off a video game that in theory should have worked much better than it did. Think about it, get a bunch of martial artist, put them in pretty easy to replicate costumes, add in minor special effects and boom you have your movie. The story itself is easy enough to do.

The movie opens with what is still one of the best movie theme songs of all time in my opinion, and it really gives you hope this thing will be great. Its not. The acting it pretty sub par most of the time, the special effects or horrible and the story comes off as corny to the point I am fairly sure it was written by people that knew it was going to sell regardless and not be all that good of a movie.

All the negative points aside tho the actual fighting is well done and I would be lying if I said me as a kid didn’t enjoy the movie. Even as an adult the movie is still entertaining in that the movie is so bad its good sort of way. Don’t go into this thinking it will be good, just fun. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Lost Boys (1987)

the lost boys

The lost boys is one of those movies that came out in the 80’s and is a vampire movie done a bit differently with a twist ending, but both done right. With a family from Arizona moving to California an older brother meets some friends and falls in with a bad crowd. The younger brother meets some comic book nerds obsessed with vampires they claim live in the area and the comics they claim are evidence of this. Turns out that group are those vampires and those nerds are not wrong.

What follows is the classic tale of a quest to escape the clutches of these vampires, their leader that wants to marry their mother, enslave them both and take over the town.

The movie is amazing and has its funny parts but is full of suspense and action with a great sound track, but I will always remember the end when all is said and done. Dead vampires everywhere, a huge hole in the side of the house, and the grandfather that everyone thought was just some old guy saying ” the area would be great if it wasn’t for all the damn vampires” Definitely check this one out if you haven’t already. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Suburban Gothic (2015)

suburban gothic

Suburban Gothic is one of those silly horror movies that isn’t quite funny, but isn’t really serious either. Its pretty well written with decent effects in that better than a B movie nut clearly isn’t AAA title, and that actually helps the movie out very well. There are some laughs to be had and Matthew Gubler (criminal minds) and Kat Dennings (Thor) work amazing together. You actually believe they are both former fat kids that are awkwardly spending time together but also have a strange attraction.

The movie is pretty far from perfect however, for example the main characters parents are basically insane and abusive. The town itself is apparently full of rednecks, rapist and criminals but no one noticed or simply doesn’t care. I’m not really sure which one it is. Also don’t expect this to be scary, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

300 (2007)

300

300 is one of those movies that is based on a true story in the sense that Spartans are real, Thermopylae is a real place, the battle is real hell even King Leonidas is a real person. Most of the details tho are pretty much made up for dramatic effect and to sell a movie.

The movie by the way is about 300 Spartans holding the pass of Thermopylae against a massive Persian horde. The action is great and violent, there is the obligatory sex scene, and of course there is the classic scene where arrows block out the sun and they fight in the shade.

All of this are things anyone would know simply from common sense or previews however as solid as the acting is and as action packed as it actually is i have to say, when I first watched the movie I loved it. Watching it again I noticed while I still enjoy it, there isn’t much to the movie. It’s just an action flick with an extremely historically inaccurate story and not much else going on. Even the struggle of the Queen attempting to get reinforcements to the king is just sort of there and in the grand scheme there for the same of being there more than anything else. The movie is fun, but it’s rather empty. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Game Over, Man (2018)

game over, man

Another Netflix movie that on the surface probably shouldn’t have been all that good. Three idiot friends that work in a hotel, one of which has a weird Salvia addiction that he buys from his possibly delusional money obsessed friend get the surprise on a lifetime. A rich internet celebrity is having a huge party at the hotel, and they are going to try to get him to finance their dream. One small issue, some terrorist have a slightly different idea.

The entire plot of this movie is that Terrorist and these 3 guys want money. Tho the 3 friends had a check that their boss took off them and gave back to the manager and they simply wanted it back. The movie is quite hilarious, and ladies if you want to see Adam Devine’s Dick, this is your chance. It is legitimately in the movie.

The story obviously should not be thought about, it has plenty of plot holes and is far from perfect. It is simply a fun and entertaining movies with some bad but passable special effects. Very much worth a watch tho, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
