Mighty No. 9 (first impressions)

mighty no 9

Mega Man. Beloved gaming icon who sadly I have 0 experience with, that’s more of Savor’s realm. Months ago Mighty No. 9 was a free PSN game, and curiosity got me after the host of negative reviews I’ve heard about this damn game and I tried it. I’ve played Dark Souls 2 Scholars of the First Sin and I’ve played Alien: Isolation, all hard ass games, but neither of them made me rage quit after half an hour. From the get go, I felt moving feels slow and jumping feels heavier than it should. That was a red flag but soon, in the tutorial, I started having issues with the high jump weirdly enough and the instruction flashed quicker while others lingered longer.

So essentially, Beck the 9th of these robots has to go and fight the other 8 that have gone wayward. You can go to any stage in order, which is cool. I tried 2 stages and both have a strange issue: they get hit with bitches of difficulty spikes. The game goes from being easy as hell to stupidly hard in a instant. A lot of times I didn’t feel it was being hard as much as it was being a dick; I can’t say I’ve had a death where I feel it was deserved as much as a bullshit death. Also you have limited lives before you have to restart the whole level again, becoming the ultimate rage cap. I’m determined to beat at least a stage just to say I did but I can tell you, DON’T  play this if you have anger management problems, you may break your TV. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Two Point Hospital (preview)

Here we are, Two Point Hospital, another spiritual successor to Theme Hospital. Theme Hospital was much like theme park, a wacky simulation game where you ran a business. This time you treated weird illnesses from guys that walked around dressed like Elvis to bloated heads which by the way you popped with a needled and then blew back up like a ball. So how similar is Two Point Hospital?

That is about 10 minutes of game play, there is a guy walking around with a light-bulb as a head. No he doesn’t have a good idea, that is what he is there to get cured. Unlike Project Hospital which also looks amazing this one takes a more silly route than the more serious sim route. Both look great and honestly I fully indent to get both. There is plenty of room for both, but I actually think we will see Two Point Hospital on console. Nothing has been said or even hinted at for this, but it is backed by Sega and theme hospital was an original PlayStation game so if that happens remember I called it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Project Hospital (Preview)

Project Hospital is a sort of spiritual successor to theme hospital, as you can see in the picture. However it seems a but more serious. Here is a short video with many of the details.

The game looks pretty nice, yet pretty intensive on micromanagement. My biggest fear is that you will need to interact with patients heavily and this will take away from the building and running of the hospital itself. It would be nice if this is a more of an optional feature that you can dive into when you want or in emergencies than something you spend a large amount of time doing. This game from oxymoron looks fun however and is worth watching.

There is another hospital game on the way however, and that we will cover tomorrow. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Overcrowd (PC)

So the other day I tossed out on Twitter I need more indy games and movies to check out, and I get a follow from the guy that codes a game called Overcrowd. His name is Alastair and him and his girlfriend, whom has a PhD in molecular genetics, Sarah are creating this game. Together they make up SquarePlay Games. I was a bit surprised by this one, simply because of what it is. The concept seems pretty silly on the surface, maybe because I don’t frequent the subway system. I will let their video explain it however since I can not do it justice.

See, if I had tried to explain this, it would sound silly. However what you get is a deep and engrossing game with a lot to do and managing. The building aspect is only one part as you must also make sure your workers are happy so they can in turn keep commuters happy. Rats, garbage or even blood will quickly turn what should be a happy commuter into a miserable one.

I love covering indy games when I can find them, and the ones I have come across always make me look forward to what is to come. A couple even hold a special place in my heart for various reasons. one because it is a throw back to an old game I loved as a child ( that write-up is coming in the next few days), others because I love the work they are putting into it. And now this one, simply because the originality behind it alone makes me confident it will be amazing. You can see more on Squareplay Games there or here. Best wishes, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Fallout 76 reveal trailer!

Awhile ago, I realized I’m a huge Bethesda fanboy. Fallout 3 was one of my favorite games of last generation, and while I was disappointed a bit by Fallout 4 , it’s still one of the funnest shooters I’ve played this generation. In the almost 3 years since Fallout 4, I’ve heard plenty of rumors on the next Fallout game: a Fallout New Vegas sequel, a Fallout online game to match Elder Scrolls Online , and even the idea of a Fallout game set in New Orleans ( which I would go nuts over.) So what can we expect from the trailer so far? I don’t know except: War, war never changes but enjoy the trailer and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Terrordrome 2: Reign of the Legends trailer

While I personally don’t game on computer, as a horror fan I was happy as hell someone finally made a fighting game for us. The next game looks a bit more mainstream but I love the mix of legendary characters in there line-up like Sasquatch and Dracula while having characters reminiscent of Pennywise and Slender-man. I love the passion put into these games and I wish them the best and I can’t wait to see how this promising fighter turns out. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Keep The Peace

Keep The Peace is another indy game I stumbled across but this time on  Facebook the game actually has a pretty cool concept tho. You basically are set as the chief of police and your job is to keep the place safe. You will be hiring officers, managing the place customizing the equipment such as cars and deciding what tactics to use and how you will be responding to various calls.

The game still has a long way to go, but from what I can tell it is coming along pretty nice. For more information you can look here.

Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Battlefield 5 reveal trailer

A few days ago we got the highly anticipated trailer for EA’s Battlefield 5 after the disastrous year they had with Star Wars: Battlefront 2 , Mass Effect Andromeda , and of course R.I.P Visceral Games . I mentioned Battlefield 5 as the game I’m not particularly looking forward to in my post of E3 games I want, and don’t ( Torsten version) . The trailer itself looks great and what little gameplay they show looks solid and might I say surprisingly fluid. I’ve heard the controversy about the main character on the poster as well as the focus of the trailer being a woman; she was my favorite part of the trailer and I’m glad to see a woman featured prominently in a major FPS title. In the end, just because I am a Battlefield fan, I do want to play it but I can’t say I’m overly hopeful given my last big experience with EA. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Island (@islandthegame)

As many of you know on occasion I like to check out indy games I come across on Twitter or on my travels across the internet. Well not long ago I got a follow from something called simply “Island”. At first I assumed it was some weird bot or something so I gave it a quick look only to discover it was an indy game, which I checked out.

While the graphics weren’t what you normally expect in this day an age, people like to try to trade in substance for flash, the good people over at Wanderers Studio decided to stick to basic and solid looks and give you a whole lot of substance. Many people will see this and say “hey Savior why are you taking a shot at their hard work?” I am not. This is something the gaming world needs more of. This game looks good, I enjoy the art choice. What I enjoy more is that this island seems to come to life. You not only must search for water and food, but you must  find shelter.

This also isn’t the typical find food, water and shelter deal. There are different levels. not all water is clean, not all food is equal and not all shelter is going to protect you. There are also hundreds of situations that will change at any time to change your situation, and not only your torch going out to leave you in the dark. Wind and ocean currents can make what was once a safe trip, not.  That place you once travel freely could become a predators hunting ground.

You can read more for yourself here, and always many things can change between now and its 2019 release, but I will be following this one. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Jurassic World Evolution Update

images (1)

As we get closer to the release of Jurassic World evolution on June 12th 2018, we are getting more and more info such as more dinosaurs and even some hints at the story. For example things will play out differently depending on which side you work more closely such as security for example. They all have their own preference on how they think you should do things, security for example wants you to do things to up the safety of the park, but do they have an ulterior motive? Of course Ian Malcolm is his usual self and doesn’t like or trust any of this, but he doesn’t really want to leave the dinosaurs themselves since he both loves and fears them. And yes he is voiced by Jeff Goldblum himself. If you are curious about how the game looks ( beautiful by the way) you can see the first 20 minutes and a more detailed explanation below from IGN.

Honestly this is one of the games I have been most looking forward too, and the more I see the more I can’t wait to play it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
