Lethal Weapon 3

We are once again back with Riggs and Murtaugh, and this time they are chasing an ex cop with inside knowledge of how the whole system works. This normally doesn’t seem so bad, but he is using it to steal weapons an drugs from the department and out them back on the street. He also happens to have armor piercing bullets. Murtaugh has about a week until retirement and is starting to worry he won’t quite make it.

At this point we all know the Lethal Weapon routine, and it hasn’t much changed tho weirdly the movies are all pretty solid. They have managed to use the same formula and stay interesting and fun which isn’t something easily done. The movie has some twist and turns and Riggs ends up with a new love interest which is nice. Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

Lethal Weapon 2 finds Riggs and Murtaugh chasing down a South African diplomat using his diplomatic immunity to cover his crimes. While totally unrealistic is still kind of fun.

The formula has slightly changed this time around tho. Riggs while still kind of crazy seems to be no longer suicidal which while is nice for him and his character growth does make him seem crazy for no real reason at this point and now just seems like an idiot.

The movie is still fun, and the relationship between Riggs and Murtaugh is fun as always tho the tradition of Riggs having rought luck with women and Murtaugh’s family being threatened will pretty much be a staple of the movies at this point. It works but it won’t much change from here on out. The stories will change, how will change, but this this will basically stay. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

 

Goon:The Last of the Enforcers (2016)

The 2nd Goon movie takes place a bit after the first. For a quick refresher you can check out my review of the first one here. Goon (2011) Doug and  Eva are now married and the NHL is having a but of a lock out. The movie starts out with our enforcer friend getting hurt in a fight that he loses, and he loses badly.

This movie is less about hockey and more about Doug and his struggle to come to terms with his life outside of hockey. Suffering from a career ending injury with a kid on the way and working a job in the insurance industry he hates starts to take its toll.

Of course with some training and work he finds his way back on the ice, and the name last of the enforcers will make sense by the end of the movie. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first, but it is funny and fun for hockey fans. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Lethal Weapon (1987)

Oh Lethal Weapon, such a classic. Also may count as a Christmas movie,seriously this thing starts out with a Christmas and even involves people sitting down for Christmas dinner. I can’t say for certain but there may be a discussion to be had on this. Any way moving on to more serious stuff. What happens when you take a veteran officer that hates being on a team and stick in with a young, possibly suicidal officer suffering from the loss of his wife that also hates being on a team? You get the Lethal Weapon franchise.

Riggs and Murtaugh will be thrown together against their will and stumble upon a huge drug trafficking ring. The movie itself is one of the more popular movies from the 80’s and the franchise continued with the last movie coming out in 98, tho a T.V. series did come out recently. The movie is great,action packed and is pretty much as 80’s action as 80’s action gets.

Lethal Weapon however does have its flaws, for example the dialogue at times feels forced and like its trying to hard and the story shouldn’t be looked at too hard, kind of like most movies from its time period. Bets wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Good Catholic (2017)

The Good Catholic is the story about a young priest in training working hard at two things, being a man of god, and being a great runner. Than one day this man of gods takes the confession of a girl and both of their lives start to change, possibly forever in this romantic comedy. Through out the movie he will deal with various things, from sermons, the death of his father even discovering that the clergy do need interest besides god.

The problem is The Good Catholic never really becomes that good of a movie. Outside of John McGinley (doctor Cox from Scrubs) the movie is never actually funny, and the movie isn’t even all that much of a romance movie. The main character isn’t even good. Not the actor by the way, the character himself is just dull. I am sure some people will enjoy this, but if you are looking for a good laugh or love story there are far better movies out there. The Wraith (1986)

The wraith has some weird personal memories for me, see my brother loved this movie. I’ve seen it a million times. As a kid I ended up hating this movie. Its a good movie, I just saw it so many times and he loved it so much I ended up hating the damned thing. However I did feel it deserved a review for nostalgia reasons and because it actually is a really good and original movie, at least for what it was.

A group of motor head gang members pretty much run an area. They steal, they rob and everyone knows it, but nobody can prove it. They also have a love of racing and occasionally force people into racing for their cars, Enter a mysterious stranger. He also likes to race, but he races for an entirely different reason.

He starts challenging these guys to races and when he starts winning, he kills them. forces them off the road, pulls ahead spins and crashes into them head on. All sorts of ways. Then his car somehow comes back together unharmed and away he goes. This wraith has his reasons, and they are good. If you are a car guy or gal that likes sexy cars and death, check this one out. Space Balls (1987)

There isn’t much to say about space balls, its a classic Mel Brooks movie. It is goofy, funny, blatantly mocks and parodys another more famous movie while slightly making fun of things in society. You also probably saw it as a kid and didn’t truly understand many of the jokes until you watch it again as an adult. One example that I always remember is when the are combing the desert with actual combs. As a kid I always laugh because obviously this isn’t what they meant. I never picked up on the not so subtle racial joke of the 2 black guys yelling “we ain’t found shit” while using a hair pick instead of the long hair comb you always see white greasers using in the 50’s.

The movie however is amazing, and like always never takes itself serious. It tells the story of Lone Star saving a princess while Lord Helmet and the evil empire tries to use her as ransom to steal air. Yes, air. Anyway any fan of the comedy genre need to see this one, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Evolution (2001)

What happens when a meteorite hits the ground and brings billions of  1 celled organism? You get some excited scientist. What happens when over night those 1 celled lil guys advanced millions of years? Things get very bad for a small town, but hilarious for the rest of us. Yes somehow this movie is a comedy. I have no idea who thought this should be a comedy, but I am so glad they did. David Duchovny, Julianne Moore and Orlando Jones are amazing and hilarious. Don’t get me wrong, the movie isn’t all that good. The plot is silly and makes very little sense, it is just funny as hell. If you like comedies and some how missed this one, check this one out.

Open House (2018)

Open House is the story of a young man and his mother that move into a relatives house temporarily following the tragedy of their Husband/father being killed by a driver that has a heart attack and runs off the road and hits him. Yes already this seems a bit over the top. I won’t go to much further into the story, mostly because it would’t take much to spoil but on the drive there is when it starts to get weird.

The acting is actually pretty solid, and it should be noted the movie does contain some nudity so be aware of that if you intend to watch it with children present. The movie itself is pretty basic, not bad but not good. It is actually one of the worse Netflix originals I have seen. That isn’t to say it isn’t worth watching, casual fans of the genre will enjoy it, tho any of the more devout fans will probably be a bit bored. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Definitely,Maybe (2008)

Definitely maybe is basically the short version of how I met your mother when it comes down to it. A daughter wants to know how her parents that are now going through a divorce met, and her father played my Ryan Reynolds is a bit less than enthusiastic to tell his young daughter the history of his dating life. Hey I can see why, who wants to tell their kids their dating history. The movie isn’t Ryans usual comedy, it is actually a sweet and yet at times sad story of a man that just can’t seem to get the timing down with the love of his life.

The movie does of course have a happy ending as it is above anything a love story, for fans of that the movie is actually great. The story is sweet, and well done. Many people however will be going into this expecting it to be a comedy and will be greatly disappointed. That being said, it is worth a watch. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
