Game Dev Tycoon (Mobile/PC)

Every so often a friend will say hey savior give this game a shot, so I will drop a few bucks on it and I will. Game Dev Tycoon is on of those games. The game is actually pretty much what it sounds like. For $5 on your cell phone you can run a small gaming company that designs an sells, well games. You start in a garage alone back in the 80’s pick a couple basic options to genres and attempt to grow from there. As you grow and get better you can get an office and more employees, research new genres and even make your own game engine. You can also do what I did and run Savior Gaming into the ground. More than once.  The game is actually a lot more fun than I expected, especially for the price point it is at. Good for on the go and waiting around or even if you want a more long-term experience, tho it did kill my battery a bit. This one is definitely Savior approved tho.  Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Covenant (2017)

This movie is a kind of  anomaly. The movie isn’t bad or good. It isn’t original in any regard nor is it exactly truly a rip off. It is just very run of the mill and cliché. It starts off with a sister and brother moving home to their deceased moms house about a year after a personal tragedy. Stuff starts getting weird eventually leading to the house getting more and more haunted. People think the sister is a bit weird, brother doesn’t believe here.

Later you find out the sister is possessed and has a dark past, some priest gets involved and we end up getting an exorcist type exorcism scene towards the end. Towards the beginning we even get the standard bathroom topless scene and the standard sex scene later.

None of the movie is truly badly done mind you, the acting is fine, the script is fine and there is nothing wrong with the effects or story even. It is just very basic, you have seen all of this before. I won’t say don’t watch the movie, it is actually enjoyable, but don’t expect anything new here. Don’t Bite Me Bro

Don’t bite me bro is a game I came across while browsing the free games with my daughter the other day. Of course since we love zombie survival games like 7 Days to Die Revisted we downloaded this and played. It is 4 players couch co-op after all, so it was natural we would give this a shot.

I will say this, the game has a cool idea, an asteroid  hits the earth and turns everyone into zombies for some reason. Well not everyone, you have to rescue a few people plus you obviously are not a zombie. So the story while cool makes very little sense.

The controls the range from nice to damn near don’t work. The truck at times barely works, at times I found I could not drive in a certain direction where I had to reset the truck’s position, thankfully this is just a push of a button. Building can also be a hassle at times, placing items where you want isn’t always easy either and there are random times the game won’t even let you place items at all tho the game does not explain this to you, you just need to figure this out.

Another large issue is you will be attacked by hordes at regular intervals, but these intervals come pretty quick. This results in attempting to explore nearby and having to rush back to defend your base. This is actually really damn annoying honestly, it gets easier tho as you save more people at least since you can set them up to defend your base, which is nice of them.

The game can be fun, but has its issues. It is pretty new and hopefully with some updates it will be improved since the game does have potential. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Playerunknowns’s Battlegrounds (Xbox One)

PUBG, at one point this game was huge, still is really but for various reasons it has fallen out of favor with many people. This honestly isn’t about all that, so if you are here to see me bash this game in favor of Fortnight or say how much better than Fortnight this game is, that won’t be happening. All I will say is this, while there are similarities the two games do differ in-game play. Fortnight is far less realistic than PUBG while PUBG attempts to capture a more combat sim play style. I understand the comparison to an extent but I truly do not understand why people insist on thinking people can’t like both or why someone can’t prefer one over the other.

PUBG is as we all know is a battle royale game, 100 people dropped onto a map, you search for supplies, last man standing wins. You can also play as a team with the same rules but you know, last team wins. It is a pretty fun concept but the game does suffer from issues on the Xbox, even on the One X. People regularly die before the game even finishes even rendering for example. Switching equipment can also be a chore, to the point that hiding is almost a requirement, at least for newer players, and this can result in your untimely death. There also is no real tutorial mode which while not a huge issue, also doesn’t tell you much about the control scheme which takes some getting used to.

That being said, the game is in early access which gives it some space for improvement, and the game has been getting pretty regular improvements. Nothing amazing and still has a long way to go, and I doubt most people will care to wait around for it. Personally I doubt I will play long-term myself. The Rage:Carrie 2 (1999)

Every so often I hear someone complain that we are getting a sequel we don’t need. I always find this to be an odd statement because really we don’t need any movie. They are simply made to entertain. They are all pointless and unneeded so they all become needed to be made from the standpoint of their creator. That being said, once in a while I come across a movie I watch and I realize I am being way to literal, and this is what they mean by we don’t need this movie.

That is not to say the movie was terrible. I can’t honestly say it was some flaming dumpster fire and nobody should ever watch it. The acting was good, the visuals were nice, the sound was good enough but could have used some better music I thought. I mean come on, it was the late 90’s and the movie cost you 21 million bucks to make and you couldn’t be me some good tunes? The movie was a flop by the way, grossing only 17 million on that 21 million budget and it isn’t hard to see why. have you seen Carrie (1976) ? If the answer is yes than you have essentially seen this one. The movie takes place 20 years after Carrie, yes it is a direct sequel. Sue is now the counselor at the new school that replaced the one Carrie torched. Rachel or telekinetic friend is the unknown half sister of Carrie ( same father) and the story goes like this.

Jocks are sleeping with girls at the school for points in a game they are playing, Rachel’s friend gets upset and takes a walk off the top of the school, Rachel and one of the Jocks fall for each other, jocks don’t like it, jocks target Rachel, Rachel goes ballistic at a house party and kills everyone and burns the place to cinders after they show a sex tape her and her boyfriend didn’t know the jocks made. The End. Seriously this is less a sequel to Carrie and more of a re-imagining or retelling. The movie isn’t exactly bad, it is just the same story, and isn’t done as well. Except the end scene where stuff dies, I am willing to debate that those 2 scenes are about equal in quality.

Streets of Rage 3 (Xbox 360)

Here we are, the final of the Streets of Rage games in the Sega Vintage collection, and my personal favorite of the 3. It looks the best, plays the best, has the most characters and in general for me was just the most fun. As always it has multiple options to make sure it fits everyone’s screen the right way and once again the game looks and sounds like a pumped up version of its original release. Of all the versions of the streets of rage games I have played to me these seem like the definitive versions. And at the low price of free for Xbox gold members it is pretty much a steal. Streets of Rage 2 (Xbox 360)

Here we are, Streets of rage 2 and another game in the Sega Vintage Collection and another game that is pretty much a faithful recreation of its original incarnation. We also got the nice feature of having different options on fitting your screen and once again the game sounds and looks like a more crisp version of its original release.

Honestly this is another situation where fans of the original are going to be thrilled to add this to their collection, and people who never had the chance to play are going to want to give this a show while it is free. Mr. Woodcock (2007)

Oh Billy Bob Thornton you sick sick bastard how I love you movies. This time around Billy Bob (Mr. Woodcock) plays what can only be described as a jack ass pretty much abusive gym teacher that torments his students to the point of ruining their lives. Seann William Scott plays Farley, one of those students. Many years later Farley rights a book and is honored by the town and comes home, only to discover Mr. Woodcock (Billy Bob) is dating his mom.

The movie itself honestly isn’t exactly good, much of it is pretty much run of the mill stuff that is easy to see coming. For me it is just one of those guilty pleasure movies. I understand the story is simplistic and unoriginal. That being said Billy Bob plays the role of Mr. Woodcock amazingly. I love watching him play his usual role, he does it so well. Scott counters his role to perfection as well. The fact that he was pretty much always seen as Stiffler always saddened me.

If you like Scott and Thornton you will probably enjoy this movie, on the other hand however if not, you will probably not be into this movie. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Streets of Rage (Xbox 360)

Streets of rage is one of those classics and for Xbox One owners this month you can get all 3 for free with the Sega Vintage Collection. The first one is a pretty faithful version of the game. The sound and graphics look and sound like crisper versions of the game people grew up loving and the controls haven’t changed a bit tho it is debatable as to whether or not that is good or bad.

For fans of the original this game is a must have and the fact that it is free makes downloading this a no brainer, and you can do it with full confidence that it is a worthy copy of the game and even comes with multiple options on how it fits the screen. Super Mega Baseball 2 Xbox One

One of the free games this month on Xbox One is Super Mega Baseball 2. The game isn’t actually what I was expecting, which isn’t a bad thing. The game is clearly not an officially licensed game so all the players and team are fictitious. The game also has a very old-fashioned Sega/SNES arcade style feel to it.

The batting is all done with the A and X buttons with one being for a contact swing and the other being for a power swing. The batting controls function great and at no time did I feel like missing the ball was due to anything other than my own incompetence. The pitching works a bit weird but is easy to get used to. You used the right stick to choose a pitch the use A to throw, as you are winding up you use the left stick to move the pitch to the proper place in to make the ball go where you want. It doesn’t take much getting used to, but it is a bit odd.

All in all the game isn’t bad, but I largely think that could be because I didn’t have to pay for it. The game is fun but it leaves much to be desired. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
