Psychonaunts 2 announcement trailer

Psychonaunts is one of those bizarre games I have the utmost respect for because it was trying to be different and make an odd, zany world of its own. The legacy seems to have continued with the long awaited Psychonaunts 2 and I’m pretty damn excited. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Demon Slayer ( season 1)

Well, it’s certainly been a hot minute since I covered some anime. I’ve gotten plenty of requests as well as started many but never finishing but I’ve started again. Demon Slayer is one of the hottest anime to drop since My Hero Academia took off and the movie is now the top-grossing anime film of all time, beating Dragonball Super: Broly . So is the hype worth it?

Tanjiro is a kind hearted young man who loves and wants to take care of his mother and siblings. Life is rough but he glides through smiling kindly…until blood thirsty demons ravage his family, leaving himself and his sister Nezeko as the sole survivors; Nezeko has been left as a violent, murderous demon. Heartbroken, Tanjiro sets off to cure his sister of her demon blood and regain her humanity, undergoing the training of becoming a Demon Slayer, mastering the art of water breathing and gaining new friends as he sets off on the impossible task of not only curing his sister but hunting down the original demon to get her cure…

First and foremost, this anime is absolutely breathtaking on the eyes. The use of color and animation styles, especially during the fight scenes is truly beautiful and makes the series instantly stand out. The relationship between Tanjiro and Nezeko is simple but powerful much like Edward and Alfonse from Fullmetal Alchemist and the characters around them are fascinating and cool, both heroes and villains alike. The season ends on a really cool cliffhanger that directly leads into the movie. In the end, Demon Slayer is a very promising anime I highly recommend checking out, especially if you are new to anime or just want something both heartwarming and badass. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Karen trailer

We really did it, didn’t we. Oh no, we really did it. Karen got a movie, and it’s not an outlandish comedy. It looks like somebody thought Karen needed an actual thriller…and oddly, it makes it funnier than if they went for a full comedy. Well, I do want to watch it and watch it I will try to. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy reveal trailer

Oh dear…another Marvel cash grab. While I didn’t have much faith in the Avengers game, Guardians isn’t really filling me with much faith either. I got serious Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale series flashbacks here and the gameplay we got to see didn’t wow me what so ever. Hopefully I can be wrong, but time will tell. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Cats (2019)

Cats (2019 film) - Wikipedia
Cats (2019 film) - Wikipedia

Oh boy everyone…that’s basically all this review is going to sum up really. There is plenty to say and I feel WTF sums it all up really damn good. First of all, I actually like musicals and I respect Andrew Lloyd Weber for making something this bizarre in the first place; I’m sure we’ve heard the stories of Cats 2019 and are wondering how true they are. Is Cats a masterpiece or a bust?

So Cats primarily (we’ll get back to that) follows a abandoned cat who is left on the cold streets where she meets a host of other Gelical Cats who sing there way to a better life…

So yeah Cats is pretty much a dumpster fire as a film. Again, I respect the musical and as a stage show I think it works. If they made a animated adaptation I think it could have been better than this. Everyone is nightmare fuel to look at. The off-putting sensation you got from the trailer never goes away and during the more sensual dance numbers, I felt pretty creeped out; the dancing cockroaches made me shiver. This movie is full of truly talented people who feel really out of place here- Ian McKellen, Judy Dench, Idris Elba, and Rebel Wilson to name a few. While their presences are baffling, no one is this movie doesn’t try their ass off. Jennifer Hudson, despite the hideous effects, steals the show for me and she almost brought me to tears with her rendition of “memory”. The format of the story is fluid which hurts it; we get characters for a song, they disappear, rinse and repeat. While the characters look terrifying, the sets are great and again, I must stress this sincerely, the cast tries their asses off to make something out of this. In the end, Cats is a disaster that deserves to be seen to be believed, if not for the spectacle than to appreciate the work that went into it. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Eternals reveal trailer

I sighed through my way through this. I always found the Eternals a fascinating part of Marvel lore but they are definitely some of the weirdest parts. Did they need a movie? Not really and to add insult to injury, the trailer tells you how their existence poops on the MCU a little bit. Like most I’ll watch it but I’m not looking forward it. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human trailer

Dying Light stands out well among a sea of zombie games and is amazing in it’s own right. 2 has been delayed time and time again but finally the ball seems to be rolling and we have footage and a cool title. Suddenly I’m pretty pumped, ready to run, jump and kick some zombie ass once again. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Resident Evil VIII: Village

Resident Evil Village | CAPCOM

There are very few times I’ll eat my words. I thought introducing werewolves and vampires into Resident Evil, a game franchise famous for zombies and strange monsters, was a stretch. I thought thought we were going to get a solid game. I was absolutely shocked what we got and I’m thrilled to say Village is a new renaissance for the Resident Evil…

Years after escaping the Baker family and the Molded under the control of Eveline in Resident Evil 7 (Torsten’s thoughts) , Ethan and Mia Winters are trying to move on with there baby girl Rose, relocated in Europe under the protection of Chris Redfield. One night, Ethan’s whole world is shaken by Chris and he finds himself alone in a terrorized village of ancient monsters under the hand of four tyrannical lords under the mysterious Mother Miranda. Betrayed, alone, and desperate Ethan must venture into a terrifying new unknown to save his little girl…

There is so much I can’t say in this review and I don’t want to spoil. This game has some serious balls with how dark it gets and I have a lot of respect for it there and the level of storytelling they have. I respect the callbacks to 7 and Resident Evil 4 but it has it’s own identity. The gameplay is perfected from 7, adding more varieties of horror with a bit more action but not overdoing it. The graphics and score are beautiful. The story is surprisingly damn good and the villains are fascinating. As a weird bonus, because of the twists in the last act, it made me appreciate 7 more but also 0 at the same time. In the end, Village is fantastic and so far it’s my game of the year I can’t recommend more. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
