Overboard (1987)

The 1987 movie Overboard starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell is a classic to many fans of 80’s movies, tho it didn’t fair to well with critics and ranked in just under $27 million which for the time wasn’t too bad. The story itself has Dean Profitt (Kurt) playing a single father of three kids and carpenter is hired by Joanna (Goldie) to build a closet on her yacht. Joanna is kind of a dick so when the two get into a fight Dean is left angry and unpaid and she leaves.

Joanna, however, ends up falling overboard in an accident and left hospitalized with amnesia. When Dean finds out he decides to get his money one way or the other and pretends to be her husband. This nets him a mother for his kids and a free housewife. The plan starts out fairly well but as we all know in the end, this doesn’t go well for long. The two do of course fall in love because its a romantic comedy after all. It is a great watch for fans of the era but I feel like it doesn’t hold up very well for new fans. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Trailer

Oh, Jay and Silent Bob, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, you funny weird bastards. This trailer and movie are about to be no exception. At first, I kind of assumed it would be some weird reboot of the Jay and Silent Bob universe which bummed me out but trusting Kevin Smith I was going to watch regardless. However, finding out that it is a movie about a reboot of the movie made in Jay and Silent Bob strike back I am really looking forward to this one. So enjoy the trailer and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The King’s Man teaser

I’ve never been a fan of the secret agent thing but I have to admit I was incredibly impressed by the first Kingsman movie. While I didn’t see the second and heard mixed reviews, the impression of the first stayed with me. As for the prequel, it’s actually a good idea and the time period lends itself for some interesting ideas. It looks gritty which is interesting. In the end, I’d check it out. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

IT Chapter 2 trailer 2

It’s amazing how an awesome trailer can perk you up before a grueling day at work. My hype for this movie is pretty huge, I’d say as much as my friends were hyped for Godzilla: King of the monsters (Torsten) . The visuals were incredible and it’s always awesome to get some Pennywise in my day. It looks awesome and September can’t get here fast enough. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

3 From Hell trailer 2

I wasn’t impressed at all during the last glimpse we got of a movie I really couldn’t see a point in. This trailer, revealing a good deal of the plot, at least helps me see a point in it’s existence. It’s a fair excuse how Otis, Capt Spaulding, and Baby survived but it’s still feels flimsy to me. Still I like the tone seems to be a hybrid of the previous two movies. It’ll be interesting how it plays out. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle

rocky and bullwinkle

For the past 17 years now, mainly after reading Dark Tower 6: Song of Susannah I’ve feared inter-dimensional rifts where the characters I created would walk amongst us and likely waste my ass in the process. Well before that, I saw the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie…

Who doesn’t know the beloved cartoon characters Rocket J Squirrel (Rocky) and Bullwinkle J Moose? Throughout the old days, the adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle charmed and entertained folks for years to come, thwarting the plots of Fearless Leader and his lackeys Boris and Natasha. When the 90’s and early 2000’s bring a time when they are nearly forgotten, until a movie executive accidentally  brings the nefarious trio into or real world and begin trying to take over our world. Our only hope is in young special agent Karen Sympathy who sneaks into Hollywood Studios and green lights Rocky and Bullwinkle into reality. Can our Cartoon heroes save the day in a world far from theirs?

The Rocky and Bullwinkle movie, while corny, awkward, and a little dated, it’s a charming fish- out- of- water story. It was really cool the voices of Rocky, Bullwinkle, and the narrator are the classic voices; Deniro, Alexander, and Russo do really well as live action versions of the villains. The acting is all around solid and there’s a lot of cameos throughout. The movie is extremely meta which may or may not turn some people off but I liked how it was done. In the end, the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie isn’t a bad movie and its a charming little comedy for the kids. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dragonball Z : Bojack Unbound

dbz bojack

I love the idea of treating Bojack’s  movie as an epilogue to Dragonball Z: Android Saga (Cell Games) and honestly it does work pretty well in concept. Gohan’s on his own and he’s the strongest fighter Earth has to offer so there’s a lot that can done. So how does Gohan’s first time leading the Z Fighters go?

After Cell was destroyed by Gohan, Hercule gets the credit and becomes arguably the biggest celebrity on the planet. A spoiled rich kid has Hercule host a huge tournament with the opportunity to face real aliens. Of course the Z fighters show up and advance to the real show, only to discover the aliens they were supposed to fight were killed by a group of space pirates that King Kai had stored away, unleashed by his planet getting destroyed. The band is led by Bojack, who means to go on a rampage unless Gohan and his friends can stop him…

This movie could have been awesome but there is a huge flaw I have with it. Gohan isn’t a bad hero on his own and it was cool to see him in Goku’s colors; it was also cool seeing Trunks again and I like the detail about Vegeta mourning over Goku. I really like the opening fight with Trunks and Tien, two of my favorite characters in the series. There are some cool fights with Bojack’s crew and the Z Fighters throughout. The problem is Bojack. He predominately let’s his minions do the fighting for him, jumping in for a few cheap shots. Once Gohan goes Super Saiyan 2, Gohan mops the floor with him and it doesn’t remotely feel like Bojack was a challenge. If you don’t mind a disappointing end, it’s not a bad movie and worth a watch. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Aziz Ansari: Right Now

Aziz Ansari has always been a comedian I enjoyed, tho I first saw him in Parks and Recs. I enjoyed the show and watched a few other things with him. After his brush with the #MeToo movement, I kind of figured he was done. (Also thank god I am not famous, they would have a field day with some jokes I have made) However, he is back with his new stand up, Right Now. One of the first things he does is talk about this, which I think was a good choice since honestly, it did need to be discussed. I am pretty sure many went to see if he did talk about it.

As for how funny it is, it is quite funny. He discusses topics such as visiting his grandmother or how he once called a family member fat in a stand-up and he probably shouldn’t have one that (tho he then calls him fat again) If you like hi stand-ups you will enjoy this one.

That all being said, the really great part is how well he carries himself during all this. He is very interactive with the crowd. He is also very introspective and emotional in the end which was nice to see. He truly did seem to be sharing a moment with them that he was grateful to be having. It was nice to see. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dragonball Z: Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan

dbz broly 1

I’m spoiling this now, this is my favorite DBZ film period. No contest; no arguments. I was thrilled when Broly became canon, though I was able to see his DB: Super movie yet. But let’s take a look at this special specimen of a DBZ movie and find out why…

The South Galaxy is destroyed almost instantly to King Kai’s horror; the culprit is believed to be a Saiyan. Intrigued, Goku goes out to investigate, leaving Chi Chi enraged Goku bails out on a meeting that would have gotten Gohan into a fancy school. Meanwhile while Goku’s friends are at a picnic, a spaceship lands near them a aging, one eyed Saiyan named Paragus emerges and seeks Vegeta out, pledging with him to come lead the new Saiyan home-world. Vegeta, his ego stroked follows Paragus despite Trunks trying to talk sense to him. The world is broken and desolate with only the slaves feebly rebuilding and Paragus’s seemingly meek son Broly the only inhabitants until the gang show up. Something about Goku bothers Broly though, enrages him in fact. The next day the trap is sprung after a failed murder attempt by Broly. Paragus , once a servant of Vegeta’s father was betrayed when King Vegeta tried to murder his baby son, then him when he tried to defend the infant? Why so much fuss over a baby? Goku and Broly were born on the same day; Broly was born with a power level of 10,000 and a natural birth defect where being critically beaten doesn’t drastic increase his power but naturally skyrockets on it’s own. Broly unleashes his full might, the power of the Legendary Super Saiyan…

This the most brutal DBZ movie of the bunch. Broly is a cruel sadistic monster when Legendary is achieved and he enjoys torturing Goku, Gohan, Trunks, Vegeta and Piccolo for the sake of it and they are powerless to stop him. Seeing Vegeta shut down hit me, because the odds against Frieza, Cell, and Buu he was never frozen in fear as he was with Broly. The story is surprisingly good and the transformation into Legendary is my favorite of maybe my favorite of all DBZ. There is some good music including Pantera for the transformation which only made it more awesome. It’s a damn awesome movie that’s brutal and epic with a great villain an d definitely worth seeing. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Faintheart (2009)

Every so often I see a movie and think “This could be cool” and I am horribly wrong. This is one of those times. This isn’t even one of those I just don’t get British humor things because I do. I usually enjoy it. This is just a horrible movie. The general story is a dad that is a bit too into his battle reenactments and has a habit of being a bit late to everything. This time it happens to be the funeral of his father in law. This pisses his wife off and leaves him.

His son that he treats more like a best friend is also being bullied in school, of course. His dad is a huge nerd and he is taking his son for the ride. The worst part o the movie is how bad they make nerds look. Imagine pretty much every stereotype wrapped into one. While this normally would be no big deal, they then turn them all into massive heroes by the end. The concept is just insulting and unrealistic for a movie trying to be realistic.

The movie is also a comedy that is never all that funny, and the acting is never all that great. This most likely comes from the script being horrible honestly. This is one of those movies I just have to recommend you don’t watch. Here is the trailer tho just in case. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
