Sea Of Thieves First Impressions

download

After playing the beta for Sea of Thieves I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the full game. Now I need to be clear, this is not a full review. I have got some play time in but obviously not nearly enough to truly give it a full review. I do have some thoughts on it tho. First the fun factor of the game depends deeply on who you end up playing with. With the right group hours can easily fly by. With the wrong group the game is actually a chore with team mates being it the way, slamming your ship into rocks or all around being a pain to be around.

The game also can be a breeding ground for toxic behavior. People will attack and sink your ship when its not protected, this would make sense if you had treasure or if there was some nearby but in my time I have noticed more often than none its done for no reason at all.

These things aside when the game is fun, it is a lot of fun. The simple act of sailing alone requires knowing when to turn and how, but with a group one person keeping watch for ships and islands, and another keeping an eye on the nap while another steers the ship makes traveling a joy. And the threat of storms that move and can potentially wreck your ship if you aren’t careful, but also is not likely is amazing. There is also a kraken floating around but admittedly I have not seen it myself.

There are also various different skeletons to fight during your adventures each with different strengths and weaknesses, for example one made of metal that swords can’t harm or one partly made of plants that regenerate health when the sun is up.

All in all for fans of multiplayer games there is fun to be had and you can set sail alone, but there other players at times can ruin the adventure. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The movie

athf the movie

It finally happened: the Aqua Teens finally face Dr. Weird as we finally discover there origin in this epic feature film. Seriously, this movie sneaked up on me. It opens on a cameo of Abe Lincoln, a trip to the moon, and a sweet nu- metal remix of the theme song. So the plot mainly focuses on the gang getting a new piece of exercise equipment that turns out to be an apocalyptic death machine. If you love the show, you will love the crazy scale of the movie and will appreciate the other cameos throughout (Space Ghost man). I found myself liking it a lot more than I thought I would; may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Boondocks

the boondocks

I just got into middle school when the Boondocks hit the scene on Adult Swim and wow it hit hard. A decade and a half later I’m still impressed with the show’s mix of racial comedy, deep messages, and influences from Hip hop and anime all in one. It’s rare a show can make me laugh hysterically, look at the world a little differently, and even stare in awe at a couple of epic fights along the way. The show centers on two brothers, Huey and Riley Freedmen, who go to live with there Grandfather, a former Civil Rights activist who struck it rich and now lives in a all white gated community. With a list of colorfully strange characters and a cool art style, this show is definitely worth checking out, though I do suggest trying to track the show down unedited because you will hear a lot of bleeps. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Black Dynamite (adult swim)

black dynamite

What can I say, he’s mother f$%king Black Dynamite. Whether he’s kicking a racist Kermit’s ass for trying to hypnotize kids or defeating a racist conspiracy to eliminate legendary black porn stars, and even guarding Richard Pryor, Black Dynamite straight up kicks ass. Through an insane few seasons, I got to say I loved this cartoon based on the exploitation film of the same name. The voice acting is great and the animation is really well done. I love the celebrity parodies throughout, whether it’s a alien Michael Jackson or my favorite,  a maniacal Mr. Rodgers. If you are looking for a quick watch full of ass kicking and humor, I recommend checking this show out, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force

athf

Again, here I was watching adult rated cartoons as a kid when Aqua Teen Hunger Force. In seasons it’s changed names but the theme always kept the same: Anthropomorphic food stuffs Master Shake, Frylock, and MeatWad act as “Detectives” from there New Jersey home and deal with crazy shit like 8 Bit aliens from the moon, giant robots, the robot ghost of Christmas past, and there arch enemy Dr Weird- and occasionally there pissed off, perverted neighbor Carl. With only 15 minute episodes, the many seasons can be eaten up in a flash if you want something quick to watch. I got to give the show credit, it stays pretty damn inventive and never really feels played out. As a childhood favorite, it’s worth looking into if you need something weird in your life. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Avenger: Infinity War trailer 2 review

It has all been building to this, and finally we get to see the scale of Thano’s forces as well as the nerdgasmic sight of all the Avengers together. I don’t know what got me more: Spidey meeting Doctor Strange or Star-Lord back talking Iron Man. I pray the sense of dread and desperation the trailers present are true, like watching Cap struggle against the Mad Titan himself. Overall, that’s been my biggest issue with the MCU on the whole: grand, serious, dark stories tend to get watered down with quips and puns. Either way, I can’t wait to see how it all comes together this April. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Is Subscription Gaming Dangerous?

download (2)

Soon Sea of Thieves will be releasing, and if you have Xbox Gamepass you will have options on how you play it. You can either buy it the traditional way or if you pay $10 a month you can play it with the many other games. But, is this a dangerous way to do things? See year after year DVD/Blu ray sales drop little by little as Netflix and Hulu get bigger and bigger. We are at the point some movies never even come out on DVD, they simply go to a streaming service and that is it. Can this happen to gaming? A few years ago all games came out on disk and digital. A few years before that All games came out on disk and a couple on digital. Now days some actually only come out on digital, its simply cheaper.

However, in the future will it be more cost efficient for companies to simply charge money every month to let you play the games they choose for as long as they choose? When you don’t own a game you have no rights to it and they have no responsibilities to you. They don’t have to worry about you pre-ordering games or you getting upset and boycotting over pay to win practices. you will pay your money either way every month as Sony or Microsoft pays them every month to let them have their game. While now it seems cool to play a new game this way, is it possible this is how gaming in the future will be done and the days of buying games are slowly going to die? Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Immortal Unchained (Alpha) preview.

First of all, I’d like to give a special shout out to a dear friend Sir Feliciano, an upcoming gaming Youtuber. Love you bro. Anyway, he got access to a demo for a game called Immortal Unchained that I have to say looks pretty sweet. I’m getting a heavy Dark Souls vibe only with guns and a more science fiction feel than SoulsBorne. I will say the environment looks beautiful and the gameplay looks fun. It is an alpha however, so things are definitely subject to change. So enjoy Sir Feliciano showing off his first impressions and check him out on YouTube; may the gaming gods bring you glory.

My thoughts: DC New 52 vs Marvel Ultimate

jla ult marvel

Hey everyone, I’m glad to be back; I’m just going to start with a quick apology for being gone much of this month, I had some pretty deep shit fall on me but I’m back with my thoughts on the reboots.

So, for those new to comics, let me give you a quick rundown exactly what DC’s New 52 was as well as Ultimate Marvel. Both are alternate universes respectively, but more importantly fresh starts for the universes. I know many, including our very own Savior, that complain that a huge reason they don’t read comic books because of how damn confusing the can be. I mean, it is a valid point. Whereas manga, you can pick up the books labeled 1 through how many their are, but good luck doing that with comic books. Marvel came out with Ultimate first, taking there most famous properties and reinventing them for the new millennium such as X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic 4, and Spider-man. Nearly a decade later, DC came out with there New 52, which is a another reboot, albeit a more confusing reboot because of Green Lantern’s story referencing stuff from Brightest Day, and Batman never really restarting, but having a different kind of restart with the Court of Owls while characters like Shazam and Cyborg had a total reset back to there origin.

I’m not an expert on either but I have read a decent share of each. I do enjoy a majority of Ultimate Fantastic 4 and the Ultimates- the flagship series that retells the Avengers, influencing the MCU on a positive and negatively influencing the Amazing Spider-man films and the despicable Fant4stic . On the whole though, I’m not a big fan of the series however. While I enjoy what was done with Thor and Hulk, and I can accept that Captain America is much more of a action movie hero, things like Green Goblin being green Hellboy that throws fireballs, Dr Doom emerging as a goat man that lives with hippies, Carnage beginning as Peter Parker,  and Gi-ant Man being a total scumbag just pissed me off. The New 52, while sure as hell not perfect, has come out with cool stories like Aquaman, Batman, Shazam, and some Flash. I do have issues with what they did with some villains like Grodd and Black Adam and I’m not keen on turns in Green Lantern but I feel the stories themselves make up for it better. Either way, neither are bad places to start for new comers to comics. I hope this helps, best wishes, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Sea of Thieves Open Beta Impressions

download

So this weekend I played the open beta for Sea of Thieves on the Xbox one. I played for a bit with random people while drinking whiskey and discovered that the random British people I was teamed up with did not find it funny when we were being shot with cannons and I yelled “I thought you Brits knew how to use a navy.”..So yea, sorry about that my randomly assigned crew mates.

My first ship sank when the guy parked it next to the shore and a storm moved in. I don’t think it is fair to blame me. My second ship sank when the before mentioned British fellows didn’t know you needed cannon balls in your inventory to reload the cannons and we got sank to the bottom of the sea, that one was partly my fault. My third ship was me sailing a galleon alone and I slammed it into an island. Completely my fault.

My longest play time however was with a real life friend and  random guy, Charlie. We spent hours sailing the high seas, finding treasure and selling it at outpost. Finally we took to some real piracy, attacked a few ships, most of which escaped. One we boarded and sank when he was alone and had no treasure, in a move of total pettiness. Then it happened. Out in the clouds we saw a skull with glowing eyes and we felt the need to investigate. We arrived at an island with a small fort crawling with skeletons. We fought them valiantly for 20 minutes or so when a 2nd ship arrived. We died a lot but you always respawn on your ship. Unless someone shows up and sinks it. Then you go back to a neutral port and start all over again.

The game is fun, and looks beautiful. The ship combat is amazing tho the person to person combat is a bit stiff and had a tendency to glitch at times with people suddenly appearing behind you. This was a minor issue tho and one that you can easily live with. The beta itself had no real story to speak of, but the fun was in creating your own. Was that ship chasing you? Should you swing around and fire? The choice is yours, and when the game launches there is sure to be a lot of fun to be had. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
