Dark Souls 3 review

dark souls 3

Another game made by Fromsoftware and obviously the 3rd installment of the Dark Souls series, and for me came with mixed feelings having played Bloodborne first. the game starts off with the usual tutorial, a few marks on the ground telling you what button do what followed by some simple enemies ending in a boss that will kill pretty much anyone that isn’t a veteran of the series, and may even take out  few of those as well. the camera angles this time around which for me and i’m sure may other is a blessing. Also during my time playing I can’t recall having my sword pass through an enemy with no damage being done which was a huge issue i had playing Dark souls one and two on PS3. The story is as convoluted and interesting as you would expect from a Souls game. The graphics and sound are very well done and full of detail creating a harsh yet beautiful work to explore and let attempt kill you in various gruesome ways. Sadly many of the bosses seem unoriginal compared to the other titles and Bloodborne but that does not make them bad much to their credit. They are a nice mix of challenging but with the right strategy manageable. As always thanks for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

30 days of night

30 days 2  30 days  It’s summer in Scranton so what better to keep me cool than to bundle up with my trusty box fan, pour myself a cold drink, and thank the gaming gods I’m not being attacked by pissed off vampires of the non-sparkly persuasion with a great graphic novel. By the title and pics you can tell I mean 30 Days of Night.

This series has spawned multiple graphic novels, full on novels, and a movie in 2007 I personally consider well underrated; this all being said, I’m going to talk about the first book that started it all. 30 days of night takes place in Barrow, Alaska, where once a year it is night time for a full thirty days; and a group of vampires, hearing about this naturally phenomenon journey there to enjoy themselves consequence free of the sun. I love the vampires in 30 days; they are cold, ruthless, terrifying beasts that vaguely have any human characteristics any more, just the craving for blood. Book one revolves around the dwindling amount of towns people trying to outlive the monstrous vampires until the sun comes up. Our main characters are Eben and Stella, a husband and wife at ends with each other; Eben is the town’s sheriff. The vampires systematically shut the town off from the rest of the world by killing there power, stealing cell phones and burning them miles away and in one cruel swoop slaughter a majority of the town. They are ridiculously strong, swift, and act like bullet sponges; the only way to kill these bastards is to decapitate them or expose them to either ultraviolet light or the sun. Eben, Stella, and the other survivors go about for weeks playing cat and mouse with the creatures, moving from one abandoned house to another, crawling out of uncertain sanctuary for food and water, dealing with each other and there claustrophobic predicament. One moment that personally haunted me is during a visit to a quik mart for food, Eben hears a quiet sobbing in one of the isles and finds a little girl crying over the bodies of who could’ve been her parents. She turns towards Eben, exposing her large black eyes and bloody shark tooth grin before attacking him. Perhaps as cruel as there viciously brutal attacks, is that the vampires mockingly use the survivors humanity against them. Eben does bring himself to kill the girl but not without regret. For the climax, one the final night the lead vampire decides to burn Barrow to the ground to ensure no survivors and the continuation of there secret existence; Eben is drawn into a final choice: give into fear and let Stella and a few others die or sacrifice himself for them and become the monster to kick there asses out of Barrow once and for all.

The art of 30 days is the highlight of the series. Its hauntingly distorted and blurry, making the monsters seem like you are seeing them in your worst nightmares. The book is short and the writing isn’t very deep but the art carries it. The movie does a fair job of bringing out some depth while staying pretty close to the source material. I recommend this to the people who love vampires, want to get into comics but aren’t into superheroes, or love creepy ass artwork. So in conclusion, stay cool this summer and be glad you aren’t hiding from vampires.

My Favorite Console

Super Nintendo

Now much of this of my opinion on this matter is largely because of nostalgia. Graphically there are better systems and better games and stories have become much more fleshed out . But my childhood thrived on the SNES, from The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past, to more than one final fantasy games. Even my first experience with Sim City came from this console. Some other things that I can never forget is the first time a friend tossed that blue turtle shell while i was unknowingly waiting to see myself go from 1st to near dead last, and of course my friend laughed at me being pissed.

I know this blog is short, but its not meant to be long, id much prefer you all leave a comment telling me what your favorite console it. Once again thanks for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

DragonSoul Review

dragon soul

Dragon Soul is one of the few free mobile games that while spending some cash will help you progress is not at all necessary. The basic idea is you and your ever growing group of heros (and i use that term lightly) kill monsters, fight other peoples parties and gather item to increase your party power level. Admittedly there is a story but after close to a year of playing it I still don’t know what it is. Something about about an evil sorcerer I think. The theme of today was mobile games and honestly there is not a lot to say in a mobile review, graphically they are all pretty similar and unimpressive and the controls are all the same. As always thanks for joining me and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mobile Games

Mobile

Years and years ago, back when mobile games started to evolve from simple games like snake I always believed they would eventually stop. Tho back when I thought this my phone was little more than small brick that could make calls and 20 minutes of effort resulted in a text message. Now i have written entire blog post complete with pictures.

As much as phones have evolved, as have the games. Gone are trying to avoid small dots with what amounts to a piece of string, and now we have full fledged Final Fantasy games and things like angry birds. As phones change so do the games and its interesting to see how the games go with it and it brings up new questions like how far will this go? We all ready went from  dots to PlayStation games, in another 10 years we may be playing PS4 and xbox one remakes in the palm of our hands or something even more bizarre and unthinkable.  As always thanks for joining me and my the gaming gods bring you glory.

Me and Injustice 2 so far…

injustice2 For the past few months I’ve found myself riding a hardcore DC kick, reading dozens of there comics, trying to duck into the break room at work to catch the latest episode of Flash or Arrow, and drooling over the utter epicness of Conroy as Batman and Hamill’s Joker in Batman the Animated Series. As far as fighting games go, I was a cool fan of the first Injustice game, neither loving nor hating it. The roster was fairly predictable but understandably so; the story was bleak but fitting given Superman’s descent into tyrannical madness after the death of Lois Lane at the hands of the Joker; and gameplay was fine- fun as hell for some characters but DAMN playing as others made your teeth grind, especially the bulky fighters. So what about the sequel? I’m happy to say Injustice 2 drastically improves on the gameplay and brings a much wider variety to the character roster. Combos are more fluid to the touch as well as the characters themselves. Fighters like Bane and Atricitous have there own kind of heavy grace, while Swamp Thing has a longer range to his attacks. Every character has there feeling of individuality which was one of my favorite aspects of the game. The scenery and character designs are stunning and the voice acting and sound is solid.  I’m sorry to say I haven’t actually been able to play the game’s story because I don’t own the game (special thanks to my friend Autobot who let me play this much at his house.) but the plot revolves around both dimensions coming under attack by Brainiac and having to come together. The games only flaw I’ve found so far is the new gear system. I haven’t used it personally but I saw glimpses of where it could go wrong with the premier skins that turn characters aesthetically into others without changing there move sets: like Captain Cold can be become Mr. Freeze, and the Flash can be Reverse-Flash. I saw micro transactions for some of the gear available and that bummed me out a lot…In the end, I highly recommend Injustice 2 to any Dc fan and I will post again after each dlc pack. So until next time, may the gaming gods be with you.

Final Fantasy 15 Review

Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy 15, there is a ton to say about it, and yet most of it doesn’t need to be said. You play Noctis, who basically goes on a road trip with friends on what is essentially a huge bachelor party with monsters. The car basically drives on rails, but if you time it right, you can steer into traffic a bit, but honestly, it doesn’t do much. The fighting is pretty fast-paced despite only having 3 spells, tho they can be combined in various combinations and with other objects to do other stuff.

The story itself is fun and full of adventure, as well as a mechanic with some monster, um..assets, that plays a rather important role in the game. In usual Final Fantasy fashion, the story starts out innocent enough and shortly after all hell breaks out. Next thing you know, your people are dead, a kingdom is on fire, and of course, an evil empire is responsible.

The DLC so far is based on the characters in your party, episode Prompto will be the next release later this month, Admittedly I am waiting to play all the DLC at once, after over 100 hours and collecting the platinum trophy I am a little burnt out nut the 100 hours was pretty amazing, easily the best Final Fantasy since 10 despite chapter 13 being a dumpster fire. All in all, I would highly recommend this to any RPG fan. Once again, thanks for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

We all have a game we play…

Harvest_Moon_64_Coverart

We all have a game we play and can’t quite explain why. Some of us have been playing games for so long we have more than one. Way back in 1999 i bought a game called Harvest Moon for the N64. This was because I never found a copy of the SNES version I saw in a magazine years before, and that summer I easily spent hours every day in my room playing it. I was for whatever reason obsessed with making a little more money, planting a few more crops and befriending every villager I could. My mom and dad asked, both of which thought I was insane when I asked for it, asked me why I liked a game about farming so much. To be honest close to 20 years later, I still have no answer.

Not to long ago i heard about a game called Stardew Valley, which was basically this generations Harvest Moon and i was instantly intrigued. So for $15 I picked it up on PS4 and spent the next week logging in the equivalent to a full time job with some over time attached and my obviously now neglected girlfriend asks me why I even bought a game about farming and why I seemed to like it more than most of my other games. Again I have no answer. We all have games like that, games that for some unknown reason seem to drag us into its world kicking and screaming and won’t even let us know why. See I can explain the hundred hours Kerbal Space Program and Elite Dangerous have taken from me and why they will take more in the future. I just love space and theoretical space ships I will never see let alone fly.  But farming, that I can’t explain. Feel free to comment your unexplainable game or hit me up on Twitter or Facebook. Thanks for joining me and as always, may the gaming gods bring you glory.
