Of Mice and Sand Revised (PS4)

of mice and sand

The other day I am rummaging thru games just looking to send some of my girlfriends hard-earned cash, with her permission of course. She is cool like that. That is when I see this game, that some how I had no clue existed. Now I had no choice but to buy this weird has hell looking game. Its mice, traveling the desert looking for El Dorado. Yea that is what is going on here.

The graphics are as basic as basic get, and honestly that is a good thing. This actually helps the game, these simplistic yet cute graphics actually add a certain charm to the game that many titles today are missing.

The sound is also quite honestly well below what most titles today offer, but again it is good enough especially at the price point the game is offered and again it really does just add to the charm.

The game however can get a bit repetitive, just like any other city builder. Make no mistake by the way, that is exactly what this game is when you boil it down. As you travel from out post to out post running into various situations that I won’t spoil for you, there will be rooms and items to build.

All in all tho for $10 the game is a blast, looks and sounds charming and is simply addictive to play, I had a lot of fun and will for a the foreseeable future. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

2 Games I Hope Are At E3, And 1 I stopped Caring About.

With E3 closer than we think, there are a few games I hope are there, some realistic, some not so much and one honestly, I just don’t give a damn about anymore. So let us start with the good stuff.

borderkands 3

Borderlands 3, I enjoyed the first, loved the 2nd and even loved the pre sequel as well as the telltale game. So any info on Borderlands 3 would be great to me as long as it was it was coming relatively soon. This comment will make sense later. And that brings me to…

bloodborne 2

Bloodborne 2, above all I am really hoping we get a release date for this bad boy, or at least confirmation that it is in the works. I loved the first one, in fact I still play it to this day on occasion. The story, the game play itself, the setting, the excitement of finding a new boss, it is just a feeling that is hard to recreate. This brings me to my last game

final fantasy 7 remake

This may surprise many of you. Here is why Final Fantasy 7 retro review What I hope FF7 Remake keeps . I love Final Fantasy 7. The original to this day is one of my all time favorite games. Hell I have probably finished the game damn near 30 times from beginning to end. I for years I was the only person I knew that managed to beat emerald and ruby weapon as a kid. So why don’t I care? Well the rumors started back in 2014, with confirmation coming in 2015. That is 3 years ago, with various amounts of information coming and going. From the initial mistaken of saying it would be episodic ( tho it was later clarified it was meant episodic in the way Final Fantasy 13 was, not in the way Telltale games are) and the battle system going from what was originally its turn based active time system to what seems to be more in line with Kingdom hearts or Final Fantasy 15 it is hard to remain excited for a remake that has so far gutted a game you loved so much. While I understand that a lot will need to be changed and things will be added and removed for various reasons as social norms changing and technological changes and even changes within the gaming community, they seem to be alienating not only the original fan base, but many RPG fans as a whole and just gamers in general. A three-year wait on any concrete information, or much new information at all is simply unacceptable to many of us when a game is officially announced and I can’t find myself caring anymore. Best wishes, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dark Souls Remastered (Nintendo Switch)

dark souls remastered

As Dark Souls fans await the release of Dark Souls remastered in May 2018, owners of awaiting the Switch version this week were given some not so good news. According to Polygon it has sadly been delayed until later this year, sometime in the “Summer” tho everyone else should get it as scheduled.

Shenmue And Shenmue 2 Remastered

shenmue

For those that remember a long, long time ago, when Sega still did stuff all the time and not just Sonic and they made systems still ( I promise kids that was a real thing), they made a series that suddenly ended and just disappeared. For years rumors swirled about an HD remaster and a part 3. This isn’t a surprise since while I personally never played them, part 2 I am told ended with a clear 3 on the way. But nothing happened.

Well until now, according to, well Sega and confirmed by everyone including polygon there will be a Shenmue HD remaster of both 1 and 2 coming out this year for PS4 Xbox One and PC, and people are rightfully excited. And yes rumors still fly about part 3, which I have no doubt will be soon. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Tera (PS4)

tera

I don’t normally play MMO’s to be honest, a little guild wars, some World of Warcraft and a bit of Neverwinter. Now I know that sounds like quite a few, but I haven’t put a lot of time into them. Maybe 60 hours across them all and that is high balling it. I am far from an expert on the subject.

With that out-of-the-way, I am having fun with Tera. The game looks nice and plays pretty well. Admittedly inside of cities the game does suffer from some lag issues, but that is more annoying than anything that messes with game play. The combat is similar to most action RPG games where you are free to move around and your skills all have cool down times associated with them, all of which is pretty par for the course.

All the MMO staples are here as well, you can get mounts and pets, many that will collect items for you. There is no monthly fee and the game is free to play, as such cosmetics and skins cost a decent amount of money and there is a $15 a month upgrade you can buy that gives you a 100% boost in experience and gold as well as a discount on the micro-transactions.

The story is a bit cliché, starting out next to a special tree. Helping some special kids you quickly find out you are also special and will be chosen to help save the world, of course. It is still quite interesting, but nothing new. With the game being free to play tho on PS4 and Xbox it worth a try even if you aren’t big on MMO’s. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Release Date Leaked?

KH3

This one should be chalked up to something taken with a huge grain of salt, but Target has leaked a release date of November 1st according to comicbook.com. Now target has been known to do this quite often and compared to many places has a pretty high ratio of being at least close, but honestly lets see what E3 brings. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Crusader Kings 2 (PC)

crusader kings 2

I first heard of this game long ago, but not being big on computer games (yea I am a console guy) I never really got the chance to play it. But when it was tossed up on Steam by Paradox for free for a few days I couldn’t pass it up. So I tossed it on the starting kingdom they recommend and went to town on what they told me to do while adding my own thing to which the game allows for. For example they tell you to get married, but don’t really tell you who to marry. Here is a short summary of the first hour of game play for me.

So I start-up my game and fumble thru some menus and read the descriptions and quickly see there is a lot going on, much of it self-explanatory. this makes me happy. The game is constantly moving, days are slipping by. The game informs me I wont be attacked until my character reaches age 40. This is a plus because I have no clue what is going on.  I send my king into hiding just in case. Moments later I discover I need to get married. Time to come out of hiding. But what kind of wife should I get? Do i marry for land? Peace? Alliance? In true Medieval fashion I choose to marry my cousin so that when my uncle dies I can claim his kingdom as my own. I also discover the plot commands and choose to attempt to murder my older brother so I can take his land next door. My spymaster discovers dear brother had the same plan. What a prick right?

Not long after a small rebellion starts, after struggling I figure out how to send my army to put down a few hundred ungrateful peasants. My dear old brother chose this time to attack a neighboring kingdom. Now is my chance to strike, I move my army into his territory. That is when my assassin poisons him. Victory is mine…except I failed to notice I have 2 brothers. I simply moved my self up to next in line for his land, my other oldest brother is now in charge.

As you can see, this game is kind of like a computer version of Game of Thrones. Graphically it looks nice but is nothing special and the sound is solid. But the real genius here is how in-depth it actually is. Do you raise your armies and take land by force? Do you marry off your children and let the generations pass as you take the world thru guile and brains? Some odd combination of it all? The choice is yours, and it is all very exciting. Personally I can’t wait to finish off my brother. Best wishes, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Chrono Trigger PC First patch

chrono trigger

The first patch for Chrono Trigger on PC is out, with the following patch notes taken directly from Steam:

  1. Character sprites and background graphics adjusted to be more in-line with the original style of CHRONO TRIGGER. This can be selected from the menu as “Original” graphics, and is the new default selection.
  2. The font has been updated to give the game a more classic look.
  3. Text which did not match the game experience on PC has been revised, and a large number of other text issues have been corrected.
  4. Fixed the way the word “TRIGGER” is displayed as it floats in on the title screen.
  5. Adjusted the order of the demo video and animated opening sequence from the title screen to be more in-line with previous versions of the game.
  6. The background gradient of each text window has been adjusted to make it darker towards the bottom.

I haven’t had the chance to go back and check it out, but this should go a long way to restoring some faith for fans. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
