Gradius Retro Review

gradius

I have to admit, until this week I had never played this game. This side scrolling shooter is pretty, fun and damn was it hard. This game is like Australia, everything in it either wants you dead or can kill you on accident and it comes from every possible direction. There honestly isn’t much to the game and that is really the beauty of it. You simply fly around collect power ups kill everything you can and try not to die. While there are better games out there today, I do wish I had experienced this years ago. Thanks for reading and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Punch Out Retro review

punch out

Depending on when you played this game it was either Mike Tyson’s Punch Out or Punch Out featuring Mr. Dream. But to most people it has always simply been Punch Out. One of the original games of memorize this pattern then strike when you can, and to this day I know very few people that have completed it. Now most gamers would add they are one of those few. And hell you guys will never know if I lie or not. Truth is, I am not one of those few. Tyson/Dream always kicked the ever loving crap out of me. The game is fun, tho the controls have always pissed me off to no end. The game is still fun and challenging all these years later and whether you are revisiting or just looking for a history lesson from gaming you can not go wrong here. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Retro Review Exitebike

excitebike

Excitebike is one of the first NES games I ever played. I remember thinking how amazing it was and how cool it looked, then I discovered that you could use your back tire to knock other riders off their bike and it was game over. I lost races and precious time off laps just knocking people over. Having released the same  year I was born obviously my experience came a few years later, tho i imagine it was fun from day 1. and 32 years later later and the same experience was still fun. Sure graphically it is no longer impressive and the controls by todays standard are stiff and unresponsive but damn was it a throw back to the days games were simply fun. I greatly suggest everyone go back and try it, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Kid Chameleon

Kid Chameleon was a great game when I was younger. Fast paces fancy helmets that give you super powers, whats not to love? Well in the Sega Forever the controls. At times the game feels almost unplayable. While I am sure many can get used to this I for one can not. I would very much recommend skipping this one. Have a great night, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Comix Zone

Comix Zone is as beautiful as its ever been, and the idea of being trapped inside of a comic book was excellent. The controls on this one aren’t bad but are far from being the best that Sega Forever has offered. The game was always a challenge and now may be even harder. Its nor impossible however and should not stop fans of the game from playing. Now get out there and enjoy, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Sega Forever Ristar

Ristar, the often forgotten yellow star of Sega. Like many if the Sega Forever games this one also seems to have a small graphical upgrade and its been done quite well. Both the graphics and sound had zero issue in my time playing.

Tho unlike the other Sega Forever games I have tried out, while the controls work pretty well the game itself doesn’t feel right. The controls work pretty well yes but the actual game play seems to lose something opposed to the other iterations I have played. If you are a fan of Ristar you will probably enjoy this, but if its your first time I would skip it. Thanks for your time and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Sega Forever Sonic 1

Sega-Forever-Sonic-the-Hedgehog-GamingDog.jpg

Sega forever is a great idea but seems to have been met with a rather meh feeling by most people, myself included. This is mostly because it feels like a reason to toss out their more company focused entries as opposed to fan favorites that we can’t get else where.

Sonic honestly looks great on the cell phone with zero graphical or sound issues on my device. But the real question here is how does a game built on speed handle? Well surprisingly well actually. The controls are basically a digital analog stick on the left corner and on the right a single button to jump. The only real problem is if your hands are sweaty like most touch screens you may lose some response time, and in a game like this that can cost you some lives. Thats not an issue with the game itself tho. If you want a sonic fix this isn’t a bad option. Hope this helps and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home

Startrek41.jpg

Star Trek 4, The Voyage Home (1986) is, in my humble opinion, is the best of the original series movies.  The plot is pretty simple. A probe comes to Earth with a message that starts boiling the ocean and destroying the world, and as Spock points out only human arrogance would assume the message was for them. As the crew quickly discovers the now extinct humpback whales are the only one that can answer them and save the planet. So Spock does some calculations no human can understand and their stolen Bird Of Prey is flying back in time.

Of course they quickly discover a pair with a pregnant female. Now that is basically the quick version. The movie looks good for its time and the acting is what you would expect from Star Trek. This one while my favorite is by many sort of the black sheep. While most people agree the odd numbered movies suck, this one is greatly argued by many. Usually it comes down to this or Wrath of Kahn and honestly neither answer is wrong. Voyage is a far less series movie and many would prefer while Kahn is an instant classic with one of the best space battle scenes in history. With that being said id recommend watching both. As always thanks for the time, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Star Trek 3 The Search For Spock

stiii_poster1.jpg

There is an old Star Trek legend that all the odd number movies sucked. I never really thought it was true, but it also isn’t wrong. The search for Spock is basically Star Treks Jesus moment. As many of you know in 2 Spock dies. Well it turns out shooting a dead body onto a Genesis planet brings. A person back to life as a rapidly ageing child. Right before Spock died he did a Vulcan mind meld and essentially passed his soul to McCoy. Which when rapidly ageing baby Spock becomes adult Spock they will go to the Vulcan home world and put his soul back and poof instant return of Spock. I know sounds weird. It was an interesting concept it just doesn’t really fit well into a movie. Only really cool part is them stealing a Klingon Bird Of Prey. Anyway I don’t have much else to say, so as always may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Fallout New Vegas

fallout new vegas

Many people see New Vegas as the sort of black sheep of the family. I am not one of them. Vegas is probably my favorite of them all. The story of the courier was full of twist, turns, strange individuals and death. Traveling the Mojave was interesting, and seeing what happened to Vegas after the war was fun. While the groups are fun, like one that worships Elvis and walks around dressed like him and talking like him there were other areas that the game improved on from Fallout 3. For example being able to choose different types of ammo was amazing. Some examples of this were armor piercing rounds worked great with a sniper rifle.

The looks of the game were slightly better than its predecessor and the sound set the tone beautifully. the DLC was also fun but admittedly wasn’t as fun as it was in Fallout 3, but that doesn’t mean it was bad. the sierra madre was a pain in the ass sure, but it was an interesting twist on the series. As always thanks for your time, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
