Sinners

I want to talk about hype for a moment. How many times have you seen a piece of media hyped up to a level that ultimately killed your enjoyment? Maybe it was shoved down your throat, maybe the final product wasn’t for you or just meh? I went into Sinners expecting a solid vampire romp with some heart, maybe some laughs. The questions are what did I get and was the hype warranted?

It’s a small Mississippi town in the Jim Crow era of America. The Smoke Stack twins, 2 local troublemakers, have returned to their hometown to begin a new blues club for the weary black community. They recruit the best the community has to open their new club, including there young cousin Sammy, a gifted musician. The club is a hit opening night. Sammy is a hit. All seems well until a odd trio of Irish musicians show up, politely asking to be let in, led by the friendly Remmick, preaching equality through music. They are turned away. Throughout the night, things slowly unravel for Smoke and Stack as they learn the profits aren’t weren’t what they hoped. Maybe they were too rash sending the Irish away, all they wanted was to be family after all…

Ok, no bullshit, this movie is phenomenal. The movie is first and foremost about music and it does it exquisitely. There’s a lot of blues, Irish folk, and fusion throughout as the movie progresses; the music numbers are fantastically performed by an extremely talented and enthusiastic cast. Michael B. Jordan is outstanding as the twins. The vampires have a badass design, and Remmick is a really cool villain. Ryan Coogler, director of the MCU Black Panther movies, puts his heart and soul into the setting and costumes as well as his appreciation of black culture, while still giving us a pretty awesome action/ horror movie. I haven’t been this inspired leaving a movie theater since seeing Oppenheimer . It’s rare to see movies, or any art in general, where the passion is palpable. It’s contagious. Sinners is an example of dedication and talent coming together under one banner that I can’t recommend enough. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Predator: Killer of Killers trailer

Recently I covered the Predator: Badlands teaser. which I;m pretty pumped for, but we’re getting a pretty awesome appetizer with this dark, animated anthology film. I love the idea of 3 Predator stories told throughout human history: the Viking era, Feudal Japan, and WWII. I like seeing the different Yautja types and even what seems to be some space combat, which is something new to the series. I’ll definitely be checking it out this summer. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Superman full trailer

I’m cautiously optimistic for this one. I’ve been a longtime fan of James Gunn, even before his time with the MCU. The last DC cinematic universe imploded so there’s literally an entire cinematic universe riding on this movie. Corenswet seems like a more human Clark and I do like the energy he seems to have as the Man of Steel. I like what I saw of Lois, Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrefic, and Lex Luthor. I’m not sure how I feel about the Engineer as the main baddie but I do love everything I’ve seen of Krypto. There have been some leaks that I pray aren’t true or at least seriously overplayed about the main plot of the movie because so far I like where it’s going. Time will tell. May the gaming gods bring you all glory.

Predator: Badlands teaser.

The year has been a major surprise in terms of nerd movies and I’m all for it. Badlands has been promising a different vibe to the series- a Yautja protagonist, new monsters, mankind not the main prey. I’m super excited by what I see here and I’m excited as hell for more. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Alien Day 2026

Happy Alien Day, one and all, from us to you. If you followed us at all, you’ll know I’m a humongous Alien fan. I ran over 2 miles to see Prometheus opening day and I even went to Romulus for the midnight show, not to mention owning multiple copies of each movie.

Our latest installment in the saga is Alien: Earth coming to Hulu this summer. Am I nervous it’s going to be a TV series? Oh hell yeah! But there is some great talent behind the lens, and so far they the setting and creature designs are spot on. To end off this post I’ll leave you with some recent tastes we got of it and I wish everyone a safe Alien day, show some love to Ripley, David, Rain and Andy and stay the hell away from large leathery

A Simple Favor (2018)

A Simple Favor starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively is a dark comedy that struggles to let you in on the joke. Don’t let this lead you to believe it is a bad movie, because it is an amazing movie. Anna Kendrick is phenomenal as the Vlogger mom that is just too perfect for her own good.

On the flip side,we have Blake Lively, the bitchy never apologize fuck whoever I want type. She is a pretty horrible mom despite the fact she is doing her best but she is always busy at work, tho she does like to drink a bit too much.

The pair strikes up an unlikely friendship because of their kids being friends at school. This results in an awkward playdate, some nights of drinking and then a death.

When Emily (Blake) once again asks Stephanie (Anna) to pick the kid up from school Emily disappears for days only to be found dead in a lake. This will then lead to an entire quest for Anna to discover the truth behind Emily and her entire life. I won’t spoil it,but it absolutely worth watching. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Carry On (2024) Review

Carry On is a 2024 movie starring some guy I couldn’t care less to look up to be honest. (Taron Egerton) And another guy I think may have been important in the 80’s. (Jason Bateman) my friend told me to check it out and pitched it to me as “this generation’s Die Hard” which I thought was a bold claim to make. But was he right?

First off let’s get this out of the way,Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Carry On,just seems to take place on Christmas Eve. I am happy to listen to rebuttals however.

That part out of the way, the movie is absolutely fantastic. It is a game of cat and mouse between a man just trying to do his job,and a TSA worker trying to get a promotion. All the man wants to do is get a package onto an air plane and the TSA agent in question simply won’t let him do it.

The movie is full of action, plot twist and the occasional comedic moment. It has honestly been years since I’ve had this much fun with a movie. Is it the equivalent to Die Hard for this generation? No I don’t think so. There won’t be a debate about it being a Christmas movie for example.  There is no way this movie has the cultural impact as Die Hard for example. But it is absolutely just as good of a movie. That is honestly good enough for me,best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Jeremy Renner in Critical but Stable condition

Starting the year off badly, Jeremy Renner. According to his spokesperson and local papers Mr. Renner has a home near Mount Rose that was recently hit with a winter storm that left thousands without power. The accident involved a weather related accident while plowing snow. Not much is being released beyond he is with family and receiving excellent care. Best wishes to him and his family, and may the gaming gods bring him glory

Thor: Love and Thunder

So Thor, the loveable God of Thunder, has been through so much over his MCU journey and is now trying to find himself again. He thought hanging out with the Guardians of the Galaxy and losing all the weight would help but he finds himself in a rut until he learns of a new foe on the horizon out to slay every god. Along with Korg and Valkyrie, he finds himself joined by two old friends he never expected to see again, his ex girlfriend Jane Foster wielding a recontructed Mjolnir….

So remember how Thor: Ragnarok was a perfect mix of feels, laughs, and action? You ever wondered what that mix would look like gone horribly wrong? I present you: Love and Thunder. This movie is painfully unfunny. It tries shoving cringy jokes down your throat at breakneck speeds, 9/10 not landing, while also trying to be really dark and serious when it comes to Jane’s terminal cancer and Gorr’s rage. Christian Bale tried his ass off nd honestly, he was my favorite part of the movie although they really bitched Gorr down; I spent a lot of this movie wanting to hug Bale for giving it his all and going down with this dumpster fire. Everyone else is alright except Russel Crowe as Zeus, who was really miscast. The CGI is just ugly and the soundtrack becomes annoying really quick. Speaking of annoying, FUCK those god-forsaken goats. The fights are meh and the ending is just- sure, sure movie. This may be one of the shortest MCU flicks but holy crap it dragged. I tie Thor 4 with Black Widow as worst MCU film so far; those that complained about Thor: The Dark World , well, it just got a thousand times better. Taika Waitti is a talented director; I’m still in love with JoJo Rabbit and Ragnarok was really awesome so I’m hoping this was just a really bad fluke. Regardless, just skip this disaster. May the gaming gods bring you glory, or at the very least kill those annoying ass goats.
