Haunting of Hill House trailer

Normally I’d ask why but it’s been almost 20 years since the god awful remake of a terrifying book and eerie black and white movie. I can say the movie visually looks nice and there is some nice scenery but other than I get a generic feel. I think because the original has been emulated so many times a remake is going to feel like it’s a copy of a copy. Still, it looks meh. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Alien Contact: NASA Exposed

download

Every so often I like to check out a documentary and see how it goes. Alien Contact, while the info may or may not be various levels of accurate is very poorly made. Not from a CGI or voice acting point of view, those are perfectly fine. The problem for me really is about the first half of this hour-long documentary is talking about Nazi Germany.

After much talk of the occult in Germany and the false assumption that no UFO had been sighted or reported prior to that. We then movie on to what happened to the Nazi scientist after Hitler shot himself.

It isn’t until the last 15 minutes or so we even get to talking about NASA and it mostly focuses on the moon landing and Apollo missions. This is where it truly breaks down with mostly conspiracy theories and voice overs done by the same people who represent radio calls from numerous historic figures that really just destroy any possible credibility. I normally enjoy stuff like this but honestly I couldn’t enjoy this one. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Captive State trailer

Was I the only person who saw this trailer and immediately thought of The Purge ? Seriously, the intro to the trailer as well as the “give thanks” chanting and some the imagery automatically made me think Purge knockoff…until after rewatching the trailer you see the giant ass meteor at the end. I really hope the next trailer is a lot better and give us a better, less derivative look at the movie so I’m voting to wait for next trailer to see if this turns out to be something cool or a dud. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Captain Marvel trailer 1

The day has come not long after Captain Marvel suit revealed and we get the full trailer. After Wonder Woman proved the world was ready for some badass super women, Captain Marvel is going to be Marvel’s first female lead superhero flick in the MCU. From the image of Carol Danvers crashing into BlockBuster (if 2 eyed Nick Fury wasn’t enough of a hint, the movie takes place in the 90’s.) to the last moments where she goes Binary, I was really impressed with the visuals. Honestly, I wished Green Lantern looked half as visually pleasing. I’m intrigued to see the MCU dig deeper into the cosmos and I wish the movie well. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

As above, so below

above below

When it comes to found footage, it’s a real niche genre. There is Paranormal Activity and The Last Exorcism which were at least convincing, and then you have movies like The Devil Inside blew the concept. As Above So Below is one of the later.

We follow a history student named Scarlet as she sets out on a documentary to find the legendary Philosopher’s Stone. Her search leads her to believe the stone under the catacombs under Paris, deep below the City of Lights is a network of winding, endless tunnels and thousands of bones gathered over centuries. It’s believed the tunnels rest between our world and hell, and lies the stone. Would you descend into hell for the key to ultimate wealth?

The concept for this movie is great; the catacombs are a fantastic setting for horror. The rest of the movie is a train wreck. The characters are thinner than tissue paper; the plot is too. I’m still trying to understand how the hell the ending works. Characters face secrets they hid in hellish visions but they haven’t really established the characters enough to care or connections to what we see later so it’s just random. There’s a hell of a lot of shaky cam and jump scare noises- in fact I’d say it’s 90% of the movie. This movie is one of those sad cases of great potential lost in artless trend and I don’t recommend it at all. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mary Poppins Returns trailer

So we finally get a real trailer for the surprising sequel to the beloved children’s classic. Mary Poppins Returns teaser was just that, but I can now say it looks promising. Emily Blunt doesn’t seem like a bad choice to reprise the role Julie Andrews made iconic. I like the technicolor effects for the vintage Disney vibe. In the end, it will be something interesting to see; may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Anguish (2015)

download (4)

Anguish is a horror movie that I admittedly thought would be good. The idea was good. A girl named Tess is diagnosed with a personality disorder but things aren’t what they seem. The acting is good and the story honestly is pretty easy to follow, but that is basically where I stopped enjoying the movie. It is just not good. The first hour or so is a whole lot of talking and is mostly meaningless. The last 25 minutes or so is where we finally get into the actual events of what is going on and why but by that time I was so bored I no longer cared.

This review is short admittedly and I won’t spoil the ending for you, but I also don’t suggest seeing it for yourself. I wouldn’t watch this movie again, there are far better movies out there, go watch any of them before you watch this one. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina trailer

After watching the Riverdale season 3 trailer and being curious as hell, the curiosity tripled after finding out Sabrina was getting her own show again. Well, a weird day it is when Sabrina the teenage witch has a freakier trailer than American Horror Story . I was caught off guard and I’m glad to say it looks pretty cool and I’m willing to give the new creative direction a shot. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mega Man 11 Demo Review

Lets be honest, the Mega Man series in recent years has been far from great. The glory days have long since passed and fans have been dying for a reprieve. @torstenvblog played Mighty No. 9 (first impressions)  and was not happy with what can only be described as a Mega Man rip off. I couldn’t be bothered to play it myself even tho it was a free game from PSN after he told me how much he hated it. Suffice it to say, going into this demo I had very little faith this would be good.

To start there is a new mechanic, that admittedly I thought I would hate. You can basically slow down time or power up your weapon for a short period at the push of a button. I found the time slow more useful but the ability to hit a little harder when needed was nice. The L2 and R2 buttons on PS4 were my favorite add-on with being able to switch between robot powers at the push of a button. They have really streamlined many things in Mega Man 11, for example the triangle button just calls down Rush Coil for you. Now I know many things aren’t exactly new, but they function better than ever and are far more useful than ever before.

Graphically the game is beautiful but a bit cartoonish. I don’t mind this at all but I can see a few people being bothered by this. The sound is great as well but honestly all of this means nothing if that great Mega Man feeling isn’t there. I am happy to say by the way, it is. Less cheap deaths than the old days, but they are still there. You will be jumping and sliding through boards, shooting new and classic enemies. Honestly this is shaping up to be the best Mega Man game in years. Don’t believe me? Give it a shot yourself. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Unbreakable

unbreakable  Glass trailer 1 was my most anticipated and favorite trailer from SDCC 2018. I loved Split and was excited to jump into the first entry of this trilogy.

Unbreakable is the story of David Dunn (Willis) who is the sole survivor of a train crash that killed everyone on board but miraculously be unscathed . Not a scratch. As the story progresses we discover there’s a link to David’s unhappiness and how he survived the crash; throughout his life he’s almost never been ill nor ever been injured except for once in a near death experience where he nearly drowned. He’s strong and he has a strong instinct about people he was never able to explain. He meets a strange, disabled man named Elijah Prince (Jackson) is enticed by Dunn. Prince was born with a bone disorder, he’s super fragile while Dunn seems nearly indestructible.  Terrible things have happened to Dunn over his life and every time he has been the sole survivor. Prince theorizes Dunn is a real life superhero and tells him how he knew there was someone like him all along, an exact opposite. Is Prince a mad man or is David Dunn a real life superhero?

This movie earned it’s reputation as one of Shyamalan’s best and it is extremely refreshing in the crowded superhero market. This isn’t an action movie but a really well done character piece that dips into the superhero lore. Willis and Jackson are amazing with a good supporting cast. The music was cool. Visually it looked great; I liked the uses of Green for Dunn and Purple for Glass throughout. The pacing is slow to start, but once the two main leads interact than it really picks up. It’s  a great movie that brings a superhero story to a very grounded, relateable place and I highly recommend it. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
