Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker D23 trailer

Well, if they were trying to keep us guessing, they are doing a good job because I don’t know what the hell in going on in this movie so far. Beside most of the trailer being stuff we’ve already seen, I am looking forward to the rematch between Rey and Kylo Ren. My question, look most of the internet’s is, how the hell did Rey go Sith? Her compact red dual bladed saber is pretty cool but I can’t help but kind of groan after seeing her turn; while kind of a Mary Sue, I do genuinely like Rey as a protagonist and I liked her arc in The Last Jedi (second opinion) . While my interest has smouldered a bit, I’ll still check out the final entry in the Skywalker saga. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Star Wars Episode 9 poster revealed

star wars episode 9 Along time ago in a galaxy far far away some Star Wars fans complained J.J Abrams ripped off Star Wars when he did The Force Awakens . I personally disagree; I’d say he paid omage to it but there was enough difference to have it be it’s own movie. But I digress. When I see this poster I immediately think of a poster I’ve seen for Return of the Jedi or rather “Revenge of the Jedi” as it was originally going to be called.

rev of the jedi The poster For Skywalker looks pretty but I can’t help but wonder how much of will be a Jedi retread. Also, another point I have to ask because a friend pointed it out, are we the only ones getting a Lion King vibe from the poster? May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian trailer

So D23 was this weekend and we got some big Star Wars news, including two trailers dropped. The Mandalorian on Disney+ is pretty much looking to be a show about the bounty hunters of the Star Wars universe ( for casual fans, Mandalorians are the race and enemies of the Jedi that Jango and Boba Fett belong to, hence the main character’s garb.) While the trailer doesn’t give many plot keys, I do like the western vibe and the main character does look like a badass. It looks like it’s shaping up to be a cool show. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai

dbz boudaki

Well, after one of the longest stretches I’ve ever done on this blog, I’m nearly at it’s end after covering DragonBall Z: The Buu Saga so I thought I’d take a look at the first DBZ game I ever played. Budokai covers the beginnings of Dragonball Z ( The Saiyan Saga) to Dragonball Z: Android Saga (Cell Games) and is essentially an old school fighter. For most part, I have to admit, the game follows the events of the show faithfully to a reasonable degree. The controls are solid enough and the combos are simple enough to execute. The cut-scenes are pretty well replicated and with the classic voice actors, narrator and so,me of the show’s classic music and a great feel for the fans. Besides story mode, there are the usual vs mode but you can also face off in the famous World Martial Arts Tournament.

There are some down sides to the game however. The character roster is pretty limited and doesn’t go past the Android saga and doesn’t touch the movies. Also I don’t like that transformations take spaces in your attack inventory in which you only get 7 slots; Goku has 4 transformations which takes most of his attack slots. Another detail I don’t like is the beam attacks just look like puffs of light and have no range to them what so ever; normal ki blasts are far more effective and have a way farther reach. Because of the small roster and limited game modes, the game will eventually get stale but its fun for a go if you are inclined and worth a play. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

DragonBall Z: The Buu Saga

dbz 8
The greatest foe the Z fighters have face to this day is revealed at the end of Dragonball Z: Buu Saga (Tournament) and the Supreme Kai and his assistant have enlisted the help of Goku and his friends to save the universe before it’s too late. A dark wizard created a magical being called Buu that was sealed away and is being revived by the creator’s son Babidi. Babidi’s magic and possessed fighters aren’t much of a threat for Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta until Babidi uses Vegeta’s inner evil to take him over. Goku and Vegeta face off again at Super Saiyan 2 level while Supreme Kai and Gohan fail to stop Babidi and Buu is revived. While bulbous, jolly, and child like, Buu shows his true menace leading to the death of Vegeta, and Kai and Gohan beaten within an inch of there lives. Gohan is revived and offered to try for the mythical Z Sword, one of the cosmos greatest weapons. Meanwhile, Goku has no choice but to teach Goten and Trunks the fusion technique,  while unleashing the full might of Super Saiyan 3 on Buu, which wipes out his remaining time on earth, leaving the only hopes in Gohan, Goten and Trunks. Can they beat the odds?

The 8th season of DBZ is a improvement from the 7th but the biggest complaint is it is bloated as hell. While the fights are awesome, the cuts to Hercule’s story as well some of the kids stuff feels like buffer. Vegeta has some great moments and the rematch between him and Goku was truly badass. I do love Super Saiyan 3 Goku and Gotenks ( the fusion of Goten and Trunks) are also awesome. Majin Buu is a mixed bag of a villain; when he’s pissed, he’s pretty cool but he becomes annoying when he starts goofing off and acting like a toddler. In the end, the season is a mixed bag but pretty decent all in all. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

5 Games I play to Relax

Sometimes as a gamer, you don’t want a challenge, you just want to relax, or a familiar game to chill out with. We all have games we fall back to for this, amd here are 5 of mine.

download

Farming Simulator 17 (Xbox One) is a relaxing game for me. Just driving around, growing crops, seeing how bad the physics break when I launch stuff off rocks or try to stack stuff that shouldn’t be stacked. Its just fun to screw around with when I don’t want to take shit seriously.

Oh, Cities Skylines PlayStation 4 , how I love you. You are relaxing, you are fun, and I really don’t care if I ruin the lives of thousands of people by making all the roads one-way streets and forcing them to drive onto the highway just to get home. Screw you guys and your little cars. This game can be taken as seriously or not as serious as you want, but the outcome is the same. Fun.

NHL 19, or any NHL game really is fun to relax with because I don’t care. I can toss it on rookie difficulty, wrack up a 20 goal win while beating the crap out of the other team or I can pump it up to something harder and get stomped while pretending I know what I am doing. Sports games are good to relax with because they can be relaxing or challenging.

Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition Kerbal is one of those games that if you take it seriously and you aren’t good at it, it will drive you insane. If you are good at it, it will still drive you nuts. However, if you suck and don’t take it seriously, or just don’t take it seriously at all the game is filled with explosions and dead kerbals and stuff just getting flung everywhere, making it the perfect game to relax with for me.

BloodBorne review seems like an odd game to be on this list since all the Soulsborne games are notoriously difficult. The problem is after you play through them a bit, they stop being difficult for the most part and it largely becomes more about muscle memory and recognizing patterns. For me, Bloodborne has become something I play to just chill out. The game still has hard parts and bosses that still mess up my day, but for the most part, I just like to relax in the world.

So what about you guys, what do you play when you just want to relax, let me know and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Underwater trailer 1

Underwater looks to be one of those movie premises I’m kind of surprised it’s taken this long to come up with. It does look really cool though and I found myself curious what the creatures will look like. I did a strong Alien / Descent vibe, especially during the credits which kind of bugged me a little. It does look interesting and I do want to check it out. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Plenty of Cones: Universal Utilities

cones

We come to the thrilling end of Billy Kraser’s “Earth’s Instruments” trilogy and what mind blowing climx do we have to look forward to from the groundbreaking author of Sticks:A tool in Time and Stones: The Eternal Instrument . Will there be an epic battle for the fate of the universe? Will there be betrayal, murder, or the definitive answer to a love triangle?

The answer is…cones.

Yes, the final installment of this trilogy involves cones in our everyday life; my favorite cone is definitely a waffle cone, mm. As the rest of the series goes, it’s a fun, absurd, quick read that will make you laugh because..well it’s pretty insane to say you read a series about sticks, stones, and plenty of cones.  It’s worth a read as is the rest of the series and it’s well worth a read.

As I did in my review for Stones, I’m also posting a link for Billy’s GoFundMe for his new project. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Alien: Covenant “Last Signs of Life”

I admit I’m pretty surprised this came out but all the same happy it did. While many of the 40th anniversary Alien fan films were great in there own right, none of them dealt with the prequel material. David’s Lab was one of my favorite pieces of Alien: Covenant . Recreating the look and vibe of the lab was done really well and I like the use of score and music. I think Alien fans will appreciate this little film. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Crash Bandicoot remastered

crash 1

Did you guys know bandicoots were real animals? No, I was as shocked as you probably are. This is a actual bandicoot.

Faure Island

Adorable, right? Anyway let’s talk about Crash Bandicoot, one of PlayStation’s most beloved mascots.

Experimented on by the nefarious Dr Neo Cortex, Crash escapes and goes about his adventure through forests, ancient ruins, and the lair of Cortex himself. Crash Bandicoot is a perfect example of an old school platformer, easy to learn but hard as hell to master. I spent entire days stuck on levels, holding my breath when the levels started getting crazy. While Crash can fall from a an insane height, without the help of the Aku-Aku masks a single hit instantly kills you which adds a lot of tension, combined with the fact you have a limited number of lives. While the game kicks your ass pretty hard, it is fair which I appreciated. Collecting 100 Wumpa fruits grants you a extra life; the game grants you Aku-Aku masks if you die too many times so you can take an extra hit or two. Graphically, the game looks damn good on PS4 and the controls are fluid as ever. If you ever need an old school throwback game, the first Crash Bandicoot game as part of the N Sane Trilogy is well worth the play through. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
