NHL 20 Open Beta

For those that may have missed it, the NHL 20 Open beta was this past weekend. It gave us a chance to check out the CHEL mode as well as the new NHL Ones mode. CHEL mode is still CHEL tho it has been improved. Fans of that won’t be disappointed. Threes has also made its return which made me happy. Ones tho is pretty cool, tho the name is a bit misleading. Threes is a 3v3 game so a person would thing ones is a 1v1 game.  It is not, but that is a good thing.

Ones may be my favorite addition to the game because it forces you to become good at puck handling and taking advantage of your opponents’ mistakes. See you will pick one NHL star, and face off against two others in a 1v1v1 game. that’s right it’s a three-man free for all. The graphics and sound are also top notch as you would expect. All in all, if you are a hockey fan this open beta convinced me to say this one is worth buying even if you picked up NHL19 assuming you aren’t just a casual fan that plays a game here or there. If you happen to have an older version like 17 tho, now is certainly the time to get this one. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dream Hospital (Mobile)

Dream hospital quickly went from a game a started out enjoying and quickly became highly disappointed in. While the sound and graphics are nice it became quickly apparent there wasn’t enough room to really build most of what you needed and getting the money together to build it was either an insane grind or would require real money. While we all play mobile games knowing this is the game plan because honestly how else will they make money, some games do take this way to far and this is one of those games.

Now the game is admittedly enjoyable, seeing all the people come and go, building rooms, equipping doctors and rooms while leveling up to find cures and new illnesses can be a blast. The added bonus of being able to create items to help cure things is also pretty awesome in itself. It just isn’t really worth the headache of having to grind just to hire a doctor after grinding to build a room. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Pillars of Eternity Coming to Switch August

The title says it all. The Obsidian Entertainment Pillars of  Eternity that has already been ported to every other current-gen system will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, with all of its DLC and expansions. It is also worth noting its follow up, Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire is also heading to the Switch. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

911 Operator (PC)

Recently my friend over at Gaming With Noobs picked me up a copy of 911 Operator to check out since it was on sale and he enjoyed it. So please check out his review if you get a minute. As for me, I enjoyed the game but I do agree with him. The game while fun does get repetitive really fast if you are playing the base game. The calls and incidents repeat themselves and you do basically just spend all your time left and right-clicking to send cops, fire trucks, and medics places.

The flip side is it is fun trying to manage it all, do you send your police to check on the crying kid that may or may not be something or do you send them to the argument at the bar? As you make more money you can get bigger and better vehicles and helicopters or even a horse. I like to give the guy on a horse machine a gun. There is no reason for this besides I like to imagine a dude on a horse riding up to someone with an M-16 on a horse.

You can also just ignore the calls completely because screw that dude with a cat stuck in a tree. It really isn’t your problem right? Just don’t leave your cops for dead during a shootout, it tends to make the game harder and I never actually got anyone to die. They kind of just hang out until you send someone in my experience. We all know I wasn’t just going to play this game the right way. The game is worth the money tho and I wish I picked it up sooner. Even more impressive is you can download the map for most cities and they are quite accurate. I downloaded the one for my home town and ended up with a car accident a block from my house. So have fun, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Golf Clash (Mobile)

Golf Clash is one of those games I saw and gave a shot because it seemed really simple and quick to play and honestly it truly is. Just pull back for power, wait for the slider to be in the sweet spot and let go and boom. The ball goes flying down the course. Winning games will give you coins and occasionally a chest that takes a bit of time to open. The chest may give you coins or points towards clubs. These clubs will let you upgrade the corresponding club to increase your performance. And here is where my issue comes in, it basically becomes pay to win at that point at least later. Getting enough coins to upgrade clubs takes forever if you aren’t willing to pay real money, and you have little hope of beating people that have. Skill will only take you so far honestly. It is a fun and simple game, just be aware that occasionally at hire levels winning isn’t something you can probably so without some cash. Best wishes and may thee gaming gods bring you glory.

Seaport (Mobile)

Seaport is one of those games that at first seems really cool and starts out interesting, but you quickly realize you are doing the same thing over and over again and the resources you are getting started to outpace what you actually need. The game isn’t all bad. Upgrading your port and all your ships is interesting and if you are patient you never have to spend any real money, it would just make things faster. In the end tho I can’t really recommend this one. There are better games out there that are far less repetitive and have more content. Unless you love ships, this one is better off being passed on. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Aquapark.io (Mobile)

Aquapark.io is a mobile game published by VOODOO and is quite simple to play but a bit harder to master. Basically, your character slides down a water slide and the first one to the bottom wins. The catch, however, is you can knock the other people off the track for kills (yes called kills) and more to the point you can also throw yourself off the slide and attempt to land on a lower section of the slide. If you do it is an easy way to win, and once or twice I managed to land directly in the pool at the end and instantly won the race. This is a dangerous tactic tho because if you miss, it is game over.

The game is a good way to kill some time, the controls are simple, just slide your finger back and forth and works just fine. It’s not a bad way to send a few minutes waiting for a bus or in the bathroom or whatever. The game isn’t great or even in-depth, it is just good enough to spend a few minutes at a time. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Father Home Schools Son So He Can Focus on E-Sports Career (Opinion)

If you want to read the original article in its entirety, I saw it in The Gamer and decided to talk about it. I even used their photo so I could give them full credit. They did all the work on this one, I am just stating my opinion on this.

The short version for the people that don’t want to read the full article, his son wants to be an E-Sports player, dad is letting him go to school online at home so he can focus on his gaming career. Are we all caught up on the general idea? Here we go.

I actually have no issue with this, with a small exception. As long as his education comes first and he learns everything that goes along with the business aspect of it. You know, marketing, managing money, etc.  The reason I am ok with it? We live in a world where child actors do this constantly or athletes are trained from a young age, such as many hockey players leave for boarding schools that essentially do the same thing. Kids go to school some of the day and focus on hockey for the rest of the day. So why are we going to attack this father for doing the same thing for his son?

There is a right and a wrong way to do this obviously. If he is going to let him focus on all aspects of the career, I have no issue with this. But that is what is important. There is more to E-Sports and a career as a professional gamer than just playing video games. There is marketing yourself, there is public speaking social media awareness and such. We live in a world where what you do while not working is as important as while you are working. And I truly hope that is part of what he learns. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Bookbound Brigade Preview

Bookbound Brigade is a Metroidvania style game that will be releasing for PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch in quarter 4 of 2019 from Digital Tales. Digital Games is based in Milan and has offices in both Rome and Miami. The game itself is hand drawn and you won’t play as a single hero, but a party of heroes taken from history itself. They will fight and grow together in this 2D side scroller. I have included the trailer below. It looks pretty interesting, and I look forward to seeing more about it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
