I just wanted to give a quick thank you to every single one of you. I know there are a couple weeks left in the year but the last year has been great. Hell even this week has seen a lot of new followers on both WordPress and Twitter as well as over on twitch ( I swear I am going to start streaming more often) You guys have made what I thought was going to be a quick hobby while I recover from some injuries turn into something magnificent that I really can’t imagine not doing. I have made some great friends like that started out following my blog that I now look forward to reading their work and talking to, like BeardedGamer or real life friends that decided to start their own blog like GamingWithNoobs. It has all in all been a great ride and sincerely thank you all for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Godzilla King Of Monsters Trailer
Many of you know I am a huge Godzilla nerd. I love monster movies in general, from Godzilla to Rodan to obscure monsters like Gorgo. So the dropping of a new Godzilla trailer always fills me with both excitement and dread because let’s be honest, the king of monsters is not always treated well. This newest trailer tho looks phenomenal. Seeing Godzilla I always nice but to finally see Rodan get some love and that Mothra looks like Mothra was just something fans have both dreamed of and been scared of. And King Ghidorah (also known as monster zero) looked great. I don’t know how the movie itself will play out, but damn this looks amazing. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
What Makes a Good RPG?
The title says it all, what makes a good role-playing game? That is what we are here to figure out. For starters, while graphics are clearly important, I in an RPG they may be the least important of all gaming genres. To this day some of my favorites are the older SNES and PlayStation games like Mario RPG or Suikoden. This may sound like a personal preference and it technically is but it is a pretty popular preference. If you can make a good sounding sprite-based RPG with a solid story it will probably be more enjoyed then an amazing looking game with no story and bad gameplay.
This brings me to sound. The sound is pretty important, it sets the tone for everything that is going on and with the undeniably most important aspect of the genre. Music can touch emotions just as well as any word can and many times even faster. Walking into a town with upbeat music you can feel happier or know this is going to be a good visit. The dreariness of a cave or castle can instantly let you know this is not a place you are not going to want to be for long.
Gameplay is also highly important, a good turn-based system for many is loved but some prefer the Dark Souls style of trial and error and learning. Every mistake and death teaches you something for the next encounter and every win brings a sense of satisfaction in either case. I remember the first time I beat Emerald weapon just as vividly as the first time I took down Father Gascoigne, tho admittedly Emerald took much longer for me.
All of this, however, pales in comparison to the one thing that matters the most, story. IF your story isn’t solid and well planned and thought out people won’t care to play the game. There are plenty of examples of this I am sure, and just reading that sentence I am sure many of you instantly thought of a game. I won’t name any since I don’t want this to turn into a debate on the quality of specific games but you all know the type I mean.
As one last bonus thought, characters. Two games pop to mind with this and any Final Fantasy fan will instantly think of FF12 and 13. They are notorious for characters like Snow and Vaan, characters nobody seemed to care about or like. The little back stories they had did very little to endear most fans to them and undeniably took away from those games. So to me, a good RPG requires a good story and characters followed by solid gameplay and music. What do you guys think? Best wishes and may the gaming gids bring you glory.
Cover Bands and Music
This isn’t my normal blog post, and I have intention in making covering music a normal thing here at Savior Gaming. Sometimes I just like to listen to music as I sit here and write my post and I noticed I end up listening to a lot of cover music. Some of it quite odd, for example, this Disney cover of Prince Ali by Jonathan Young.
I can’t really explain why tho I do enjoy Disney movies and Aladin is still my favorite. Hell, all the music I listen to isn’t even in English ( yes it’s my native language and the only one I speak fluently tho I do understand some Irish Gaelic) one of my favorites is Seo Linn Lion Man.
I really can’t explain my love of a good cover song. I think maybe it is because I love to see how other people feel about songs which you can usually get an idea of by how they perform it. As you can tell I have quite the erratic taste in music, so what about you guys? What are some of your guilty pleasures? Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Podcast News
As some of you may know we here at Savior Gaming have talked in the past about starting a podcast. We haven’t mentioned it in a while but it hasn’t been forgotten about. In fact, we are simply working on some of the finer points if it all such as the length and how often to put them out, you know the things that will go right out the window anyway. We still have some decisions to be made but if there is any specific type of gaming content you would like to hear or even just general life questions feel free to ask them. or follow me on Twitter and shoot me a message there, I will happily keep your name out of it if you want. The show will be more R rated so nothing is really off limits. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Override Mech City Brawl (PS4)
Not long ago I got an e-mail from a man named Geoff over at Modus Games offering to let me try out Override Mech City Brawl: Preview on PC on a sort of ambassador weekend. Some of you may remember me and https://twitter.com/SirFeliciano_ streaming it and having a blast. So when I had the chance to try it out on PS4 I jumped at the chance. So Geoff (Twitter) if you are reading this, thanks for the review code. Give him a follow over on Twitter. That being said, let us go bash his game a little bit.
I am going to do this review a bit differently. I actually don’t have many bad things to say about it so I want to get those out of the way first. First, there are some frame rate issues on rare occasions and almost exclusively during the 4 man brawls when a lot of things are going on at once. I also can into an odd glitch, on 2 separate occasions in the same match. A character named Pescado has a suplex move that when I used it managed to slam the other players through the map and they were unreachable for the remainder of the round. Tho I lost since the had more health than my team (we played 2v2) it was rather funny.
That is it. I am out of complaints. Both of which are easily patched out with an update. The pros outweigh all of that. See I was expecting a tossed together story in arcade mode, probably a silly tournament between robots. That isn’t what we got tho. The story itself while short tells the story of an alien/mutant attack that our mech pilots fight back against all over the world. As you do missions you can power up your mech of choice. (I suggest Setesh)

There are also mods and weapons to unlock in the story to unlock. All this to me really seemed to work as a training exercise for the real draw of the game. Online multiplayer. Here you have some options. There are 1v1 ranked matches, where yours truly gets his ass handed to him time and time again. There are also standard 1v1 matches that are basically the same as ranked but its more for fun, I have better luck here but not by much.
Last but not least, my pride and joy an favorite game mode. Brawl. This lets you have up to 4 people or some computer-controlled bots just go at it in a winner take all brawl, or simply have a team game. There is a lot of fun to be had here, in fact, most of my time playing has been spent here. You can even put multiple people in one mech with people controlling different parts of it.
With all that, you must be wonder how does the game look and sound? In short beautiful. The visuals of buildings going down and explosions going off, absolutely stunning. But here is the important part. This is the best controlling mech game I have ever played.
Now, why you are all here, should you buy this, or pass? It is quite simple if you like mech fighting games, this is a must buy. I don’t even like the genre to be honest for various reasons usually involving the way the game’s control, but this one is without a doubt the best I have played. 9/10. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

My Thoughts On The 2018 Game Awards
As we all know the 2018 Game Awards were this past Thursday, with Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War winning many awards including to my surprise God Of War winning Game of the year. This isn’t a bad thing by any means, it is a great game and very much deserving of the win.
The show itself was kind of hit and miss for me with the music section and a few of the guest being almost cringed worthy at times. That is really just my personal opinion, after all, us gamers aren’t exactly known for our outgoing and social personalities.
There were plenty of great premieres such as Mortal Kombat 11.
The huge surprise and win for Nintendo tho was the world premiere of Nintendo Exclusive Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
This to me was the big takeaway from it all, that not only is Nintendo chasing more mature games like Doom and Diablo it is chasing high profile exclusives. And that to me is a great thing. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Men in Black International
As many of you know there is a Men in Black spinoff (or maybe reboot?) coming soon. The story and details are being kept closely guarded but it has an official title at long last, Men in Black International. ScreenRant has more of the details. Personally and quite possibly because of my age, I feel it is a little too soon for this and is entirely not needed. Sadly I am just one man with a blog. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Unreal Tournament and an Unreal Wait
Sadly, as reported by Variety Unreal Tournament while not dead isn’t being actively worked on or developed and hasn’t received an update since 2017. The cause is understandable considering they are using those people and resources to produce Fortnight which is a cash cow for Epic Games but many fans are quite obviously feeling betrayed and let down. Unreal Tournament has had a large and loyally following for decades and is now being tossed aside.
That being said, how can anyone be surprised? Love it or hate it Fortnight has become bigger than anyone has ever dreamed and has struck a cord even outside of gaming itself with many rappers and athletes joining streams to play it, so how could they not focus on it? This understanding, however, doesn’t make it any less frustrating for many sadly. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory,
Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, despite its odd name, is a beautiful side-scrolling action RPG. You start the game controlling the Valkyrie, Gwendolyn. After receiving the spear of her dead sister after she died in battle. Her story is one of love and betrayal, tho not necessarily in that order.
The battle system itself is fast and easy to control, it mostly takes place off a few buttons but it is fluid and amazing to watch. You can mix potions and items for new and more powerful spells.
I do have a few complaints. For example, much of the game is very repetitive, and the normal difficulty mostly is not difficult at all. The main way of gathering experience is by eating food, which is a bit weird to me. It works however so realistically speaking it isn’t bad, just odd for me to rely on eating food. You do get experience from enemies but not much so you rely on gathering ingredients and gold to eat.
Aside from all that, the story is the real selling point here and it is magnificent. This is one of those games RPG fans really need to check out, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
