Evil Within 2 Review

There is a fun, or maybe odd story about how I played the first Evil Within. It went something like this “hey savior try Evil Within” I said it looked kinda weird he told me to shut up stuffed it in my backpack and sent me home and next thing I know I was hooked.

So when part 2 was revealed we were both pretty excited. And I must say I was not at all disappointed. So without further ado, My Evil Within 2 review.

First lets get the obvious part out of the way. Visually the game looks amazing. No, obviously it is not the best looking game out there and I doubt anyone expected it to be. The game is creepy much of the time tho for what is not there. The insane gore level from the first game has been toned down in much of the early chapters. When it randomly comes back however it comes back hard and it means that much more.

The atmosphere shifts between Union, a town created by Mobius, and what can only be described as the background behind the scenes sort of like the halls for staff at malls and maintenance. This as as sort of a HUB for travel which will make much more sense when you play the game which I promise works well.

The game play reminds me of a small open world horror game, it was very rare I felt confined in my hunt for the core that shall remain nameless in my attempt to avoid spoilers. It is also why I won’t put a name to the sick bastard photographer you are hunting.

There are a number of improvements I enjoyed greatly. For example your office that acts as a central headquarters. Instead of a large area with multiple rooms with a chair for upgrades and another room for lockers and a central area where the nurse stands you have an office with a hallway and couple rooms. The chair,lockers and nurse are in one spot and it really streamlined the whole process.

The gameplay itself has been slowed down a bit. I found myself mostly sneaking through town stabbing creatures in the back of the head. I can’t lie, this was a lot of fun. Now, you can just run around killing stuff but that will also risk getting you killed, but it can be done

All in all, this game to me is a must buy and is absolutely in the running for game of the year as far as I am concerned. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) explained badly.

Earlier in the week, my daughter, who is way younger than this movie, said for at least the 100th time, “Let’s watch The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and I said Sure. So we did…again. And here is my review of the movie we have all seen a million times…But do any of you remember my Harry Potter reviews? Yup, this is The Nightmare Before Christmas, explained badly.

His Royal Highness Jack invaded the land of Kris Kringle in early November in an attempt to expand his kingdom. Sadly, the easter bunny was also taken hostage. In the ensuing carnage.

After many battles, however, a third entity by the name of Oogie Boogie took the chance in the confusion and captured Kris Kringle. Realising the danger posed to both Halloween and Christmas town as well as the human world, Jack and his forces joined with Kringle to defeat Boogie and save Christmas.

Jack would marry a woman named Sally, and peace would last for generations to come.

13 demons (2016)

Ever play Dungeons and Dragons? Ever try it on a bad acid trip? Well I have not done either of those things, but I imagine doing that is how this movie came into creation. And I would like to thank the crazy bastard that did it.

Seriously this movie is weird but in a fun way. Three friends discover a board game that someone (they never really go into detail on who) banned years ago. Why? People playing it got really into it and killed people.

It starts off innocent enough. The three friends place their pieces, read from a book and roll their dice and move their little figures. There is nothing all that weird at this point.

The three seem to fall asleep, have some weird dreams and wake up a little confused at the game board. After a few moments get their bearings and go back to playing. Now as the game goes on they start seeming to hallucinate. A little further in and not only are they hallucinating they are leaving the apartment dressing up with pots and pans and make shift armor and killing people, tho admittedly they believe they are killing demons and wearing actual armor with real mystical weapons.

As the movie goes on you see one of the three die in a fight with a guy at a garage. But that isn’t weird its expected. The odd part is later they start using powers to roll the dice and move the pieces. The book they once read from is now gone entirely and they speak as if they are new people unaware of anything else but their quest.

After they kill 12 “demons” each they have a 13th demon to kill. Each other. Small problem tho, the cops have caught them and they are now locked in separate interrogation rooms. I won’t ruin this closing scene on you but this alone was worth watching for me. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Loot Boxes Good Or Bad?

There are two main questions when it comes to loot boxes. Are they bad for gaming, and are they gambling? Honestly both a matter of opinion. Companies will say no to the first one because it makes them money and gamers seem to be pretty split.

The gambling question weirdly has seen different answers, Americas ESRB has sad no since you get something for your money and the European equivalent has said only a gambling commission could possibly answer it.

However my answers are simple, loot boxes are becoming a cancer. What started as just a quick way for game makers to make some extra cash and gamers to get some cool stuff is becoming damn near pay to win and a pay wall to hide stuff behind.

As for the gambling question that one is rough. Yes you do get something so I get the ESRB’s point. You pay money and you get something, where is the gamble? Here is where it gets dicey. What you get isn’t always of equivalent value. If I said send me $20 and you I will send you random money back between $1 and $100 would you feel that was a gamble? I certainly would. Either way it seems loot boxes are here to stay, so we may as well get used to them. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Babysitter (2017)

The new movie from Netflix was not quite what I was expecting. The story is of a kid named Cole and his babysitter that happens to be one of his best friends and object of his 12 year old affections. And why wouldn’t she be? She is smart, attractive and protects him from bullies.

Inevitably as babysitters will do she invites friends over after Cole goes to bed. Curious as to what goes on (his close friend suggest orgy which he of course googles) he sneaks to the top of the stairs and discovers normal shenanigans. Spin the bottle, kissing, stabbing a guy with two knives in the head and collecting the blood… Well normal for a cult. What follows is a tale of gruesome and exaggerated death, love and coming of age and a randomly placed but awesome car wreck. Any fan of horror comedy will enjoy this one but fair warning, the movie is not for everyone. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Wolfenstein 2:Nazi Trouble?

Wolfenstein 2 is set to release soon, but has run into some trouble. But to understand that trouble we do need to look at the series history a little.

Wolfenstein 3d released way back in 1992 and outside of Germany it saw very few problems. Germany to this day has very strict anti swastika/nazi policies to my understanding. The story was about an American named BJ attempting to escape Nazis and kill Hitler.

The series has changed since than, but has always involved Nazis. It now mostly involves an alternative timeline where Nazi Germany won WW2 and has taken over the world and you essentially are helping fight back. All good so far.

Recently a trailer released and there was a line as you can see in the picture above “NO MORE NAZIS”

Now some of you may not believe this or will think it was one or two people bored and trolling. And honestly if I hadn’t watched it unfold live on Twitter I probably wouldn’t believe this either. Many people were actually upset and viewed the story line of a 20+ year old game series as a political statement. Yes you read that correctly. I will say again just in case you think it was one of my many many typos or mistakes. Many people believe the story of a 20+ year old series is now a political statement.

I don’t like to be political but regardless when did saying hey Nazis are bad become a political standpoint instead of a default setting anyway? Hopefully this won’t harm what appears to be an amazing game, may the gaming gods bring you glory.

My 5 Favorite Monsters

These are my 5 favorite monsters in no real order.

Love me some Godzilla. A huge fire breathing lizard created by nuclear testing. Some think he is evil, some think he simply exist. Either way he is a reminder of the folly of man.

The infamous Count Dracula. No list would be complete without the most famous vampire of them all. Many stories about what he is capable of exist but he is always dangerous and never sparkles.

Dragons, Earth cultures are full of them. From Chinese dragon gods to European knights fighting them and many many more. Many forms exist and all are powerful and ferocious and most importantly, they look really cool.

Ghost. Are they real? Who knows, but who doesn’t love a good ghost story? For thousands of years legends have persisted in every culture on Earth from Casper the friendly ghost and helpful ancestors to murderous poltergeist. Real or not they make for great movies and great campfire stories.

Release the Kraken! Possibly one if the more iconic lines in movie history. That is not why it made my list however. Sea monsters are inherently scary because even today we have no idea whats at the bottom of most of the ocean. The idea of some huge monster down there suddenly crushing your ship is just scary for anyone.

5 Horror Movies Everyone Should See

These movies may not be the best movies exactly tho I think they are all great, but I doubt anyone will question that they are all iconic in their own way and for that, everyone should see them at least once.

Night of the Living Dead (1968) is pretty much the grand daddy of the zombie genre. This indy film would go on to be a cult classic that would end up spawning not only many more zombie movies but remakes and spoofs ( looking at you night of the living deb. (Seriously I didn’t like the movie but Kyle Rankin is a cool guy)

Jaws (1975) may not be a horror movie in the traditional sense , but this movie scared the hell out of anyone near a large body of water or if you had an over active imagination like me you took large steps off the couch. To this day anyone that hears that theme music knows where that music came from.

Friday the 13th (1980) is not only a solid horror movie in its own right, it is known to many for a character that is not even in the movie. As hilarious as having heard this called the first Jason movie is, this was arguably a catalyst for what would possibly be the best time for horror movies, the 1980’s which happens to be the only decade with 2 entries on this list.

Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) This movie launched what is an over 30 year debate,Freddie or Jason. This debate will never ever end. Of course it eventually made a movie that didn’t answer the damn question. Any way more on that later in the month I am sure. Wes Craven had a lot of movies, but nothing ever came close to the Nightmare on Elm Street movies and this is the one that started it all.  Speaking of the great Craven.

Scream (1996) Another Wes Craven movie ( also written by Kevin Williamson) is quite possibly the most popular horror movie of the 90’s. While not necessarily the best, after all it was a decade that included Silence of the Lambs,The People Under the Stairs and many more, but none of those spawned action figures, toys,  Halloween costumes and more. The reason for that is simple. It had a story that was both hauntingly relateable, fun and creepy. This made it the perfect combination to be memorable.

Holidays

Holidays isn’t so much a movie as a series of short stories combined to make up a movie, each story consisting of its own holiday such as Valentines day, Easter Halloween or even New Years Eve. Now they are honestly all of varying quality with Valentines day and Halloween being exceptionally good.

Valentines was fun, a swim team that is particularly fond of their coach looking for a new heart. Poor Maxine however is especially fond of him and also happens to be bullied and called Maxi-Pad. I obviously won’t ruin the ending but its a good one.

Halloween is another one that really stood out, and is written by Kevin Smith and actually stars his real life daughter. Three women working as cam workers finally have enough of their abusive live in boss. This one while not the most messed up of the bunch gets pretty brutal. This one definitely makes the list of movies worth checking out. Enjoy and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

No Tell Motel

The typical road trip gone wrong story. A group of friends in a beat up old motor home going god knows where end up at an old abandoned motel. A motel with a dark ad deadly history. The story is actually not all that good and is quite dull most of the time, not really picking up until the last 20 minutes or so.

The acting is passable tho admittedly I never even remotely cared about the characters. It is far from being the worst movie i have seen lately, I am actually pretty sure many of you will enjoy it. I simply will did not. There are a couple of nice twist and turns that were kind of nice and I should warn you there are some seriously twisted moments in here that are not for the easily upset. By all means check this one out, but maybe don’t let the entire night depend on it. Thanks for your time and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
