Young Frankenstein is directed By Mel Brooks and written by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder whom also stars in it. The movie released December 15th 1974 and is a comedic take on the classic Frankenstein story involving the great grandson of the infamous Dr. Frankenstein and upon inheriting his estate meets Igor, the grandson of, well Igor. In true Mel brooks fashion hilarity ensues. From the search for grand daddy’s private library, which the first book he finds is conveniently titled “How I Did It” to the realization that since in order for it to work everything must be bigger and as a German woman more politely puts he must have a huge lower extremity. Aside from the black and white picture at no point in this movie did i feel like i was watching a movie that was made going on 43 years ago, and it definitely feels like a Mel Brooks movie easily equal to Space balls or Men in Tights.
My only real issue besides not knowing how of all of brooks movies is and how i missed this one is the very much reveals how many jokes seems to be in multiple Books movies, for example at one point it is pointed out that Igors hump used to be in the other side similar to the witches mole from Men in Tights, but i can forgive that since honestly it works. This game for me was long awaited. Finally an 80’s horror game where I simply have to kill everyone or try not to be brutally murdered. But does it live up to the dream? In a word, absolutely. Sure the game does have its issues, for example if its possible I can’t do it, but why can’t these kids jump over a damn fence? And there are definitely some graphical issues when it comes to glitches and camera angles. That being said the game delivers well in the core concept. As Jason you play as an insanely over powered Jason from various movies and use your ability to sense where people are and teleport to their general area, tho it far from perfect on where you get dropped, that is half the fun. You can then use various methods to kill the other players, for example the classic machete or stomping their head into a fire place.
Playing as the counselors is also fun, your job is to escape or kill Jason tho the later option is far harder than it sounds and will require a joint effort from everyone. Other methods of escape include fixing a car or boat by finding the keys, battery and gas hidden throughout the area and you can even call the police, wait for them to arrive then make your way to the exit. This must be done with Jason constantly hunting you and the screams of others are occasionally heard in the distance. Another nice touch is the proximity chat, unless you lose yourself off in a private chat with friends all chat happens when you are close to other players, including Jason. This leads to some interesting things, like being stalked by Jason that is controlled Cleveland from family guy even while he is punching your head off your body. as always thanks for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
So as I mentioned in my review of RPG Maker MV I am indeed making my own game. Don’t worry, I wont be trying to sell it to you. Its just something since i was a kid i wanted to know more about and this allows me to learn a bit. Some things that sound simple but are not is creating Items and skills. First off i recommend at first going generic, call healing items potions or herbs and weapons sword or whatever. See this isn’t because thinking up names is hard (tho I hate it) It will simply let you focus on the math involved in making skills. the formula works something like this, 100+a.atk-b.def which basically means 100 plus players attack minus enemies defense. So you start with a base attack of 100, then add the attack power of the attacker, lets say 50 t get 150. then subtract the defense of say 55 to get a total damage of 95. Then comes the balancing act of making sure the skills do enough damage to the enemy without simply being over powering. Items have a similar issue, for example they need to heal enough to be useful but not so much that you can just spam them to heal. Seriously if anyone has mastered this my game ( Called battle buddies as an inside joke) will probably come along a bit quicker. Up until now I have been trying to keep my reviews mostly positive but this time i can not do that. It is moderately fun and pretty simple to start. But the controls are pretty bad, using the same analog stick to not only accelerate but to steer and it simply does not work for this game. Another issue is while the game looks pretty good it is far from impressive which normally isn’t a problem, you will have to either spend a lot of time or lot of money to dig into the impressive amount of customization. There are hundred of items to upgrade and even build your own combat vehicle which sounds amazing, except that people won’t likely ever see or use. After about 10 hours i still haven’t much done anything to improve my very basic truck and guns. This is luckily a free game so there is no harm in trying it, but everyone deserves the warning that unless you feel the need to spend real money or plenty of time on it you won’t see most of the game. Now for those that are not a PC gamer or simply don’t keep up on news, recently Take-Two has decided to put an end to what is basically a mod that allows for modding of the grand theft auto game, you can learn more here.
I have pretty mixed feelings about this personally even tho it doesn’t have anything to do with me as a console gamer. On one hand i feel like its their property, if they do not want you messing with it that is on them and it’s their right as the owner. Then I start to finish the thought, while all of that is true they did for years allow the modding community to flourish. To suddenly decide they no longer wanted to allow that they have effectively slapped an entire section of their fan base across the face. I don’t know what goes into making a mod, but i imagine it no different from making a video game on any RPG maker or even writing a blog, both of which can take hundreds of hour. That is no small amount of time or dedication, and while games like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption will sell regardless but I have to wonder if they aren’t playing a very dangerous games with their PC sales. I suppose we shall see, as always thank you for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Pokemon Sun and Moon, the newest installment of the ever lasting hunt to catch them all. I am pretty partial to the series, I’ve played them all since the release of Red and Blue and have enjoyed them all with varying degrees of excitement. I picked up moon shortly after launch and while the graphics are nice as always and the fun of catching new creatures and having what amounts to virtual dog fights with other people never gets old the game quickly felt unfinished. As you progress through a much more story driven adventure than normal, which I loved , you come across a Pokemon Snap style mini game where you are given a camera to take pictures that seems like an add on gimmick instead of a full fledged part of the game. You will also notice gyms have been completely removed and replaced with island challenges that largely feel pointless and just get in the way of story progression. I really think there is room for both the challenges and gyms in the game. The quick and easy training system is also gone and is sorely missed. its still there n a fashion but it also does not feel the same.
Points to the good however is it possible to catch the majority of Pokemon from the series and many of the gym leaders show up in post story play s do Red and Blue from the original game. It is a good game that I’d still recommend picking up, it just feel less like a Pokemon game to me than id like tho many will appreciate the changes. Before we get started let me make this perfectly clear. If you are here to see me bash the system you hate or praise the one you love, you will be disappointed. I own an Playstation 4 pro and an Xbox One, both of which i enjoy as well as a Nintendo 3DS.
With that being said lets be honest, if you are looking for a home console that is strictly for an adult gamer, the ps4 i where most peoples money goes. Even Microsoft has said they have no intention of nor can they catch up. Its got solid graphics, most games re for both systems, and it has a far wider variety of exclusives. It also has less options for customization in the settings and while Hulu, YouTube and Netflix work just fine on it, the Xbox is built as a media center while the Xbox is not. That being said the Xbox does have some solid exclusives like Gears of War and Halo, it has far more customization and is honestly more complicated to use when you really dig into it. I hated trying to stream on Twitch with it, tho even there it had different options on things like screen resolution. Both are great, but they are built with a different audience in mind.
This brings me to Nintendo that is aimed at yet another audience. They have dominated the hand held market for, well forever really. Their home consoles largely seem to be aimed at children and retro games with their virtual console. They are the gaming industries version of the great white shark, it hasn’t evolved because it doesn’t need to.
All in all the console war ( at least for now) is dead, and probably has been for long than people think, we have many great consoles out there all that seem to have decided to aim for a different audience, which isn’t a bad thing. Notice i have not mentioned the Nintendo Switch or even pc, the switch is to new to tell where it will go and pc i have no real experience with. As always, thank for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
