Resident Evil (Netflix) trailer 1

Well, I’ll give Netflix this, this seems to have more production value than Welcome to Raccoon City had. In some ways, I like what I see. In others, I don’t like that we’re going into the apocalypse again. If this is based on the games, I couldn’t really tell but I’m curious rather than pissed. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dead Space Remake (Art Deep Dive 1)

This game looks so damn beautiful but holy shit I just want Dead Space. Why EA didn’t just remaster the trilogy like they did with Mass Effect Legendary Edition I don’t know. Apparently, it’s been revealed the game is set to drop January of 2023. I’m hoping we get an amazing evolution of a horror classic and not a dud ( Resident Evil 3 (2020). Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer 2

Of all of the live-action Star Wars stuff we’ve been getting, this is what I’ve been pretty pumped for. Everything looks great but some of the Inquisitors look really corny live. And honestly, I can’t tell why; is Disney starting to finally go cheap ass? Regardless, I know Ewan McGregor will give a great performance and I love the Vader intro at the end of the trailer.

Gotham Knights gameplay trailer

Ok, I’m a hard fan for the Arkham series but everything I’ve seen for Gotham Knights hasn’t really impressed me. The gameplay honestly reminded me of Marvel’s Avengers (game) more than something akin to Arkham which kind of worries me a bit. The movement styles came off kooky to me than cool. When the last gen versions were cancelled, I can’t say I’m bummed, weary that it’s from the same makers of Batman: Arkham Origins . I’m hoping for the best but what does it mean? Monstrous trailer

First of all, I’m a huge fan of Christina Ricci so I’m glad to see her back. I like the 50’s aesthetic of the movie and the premise looks cool- I’m kind of tired of modern day set horror movies. While I don’t see it being truly terrifying, I can see it being enjoyable. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Thor: Love and Thunder trailer 1

Many have been highly anticipating this particular sequel and their is some cool things here. Some Guardians of the Galaxy tagging along in this adventure, Mighty Thor looks pretty awesome in live action, and the promise of Gorr the God butcher coming to the big screen. I’m sure it’ll be a fun movie, I can’t help but feel the beginnings of burnout setting in. Maybe next trailer will rev something in me, for now I’m lukewarm. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dreamcatcher

Jonesy, Pete, Beaver, and Henry are four longtime friends with 2 unique things binding them: a cabin in the woods and the psychic link they share with other. The four share this link with their best friend, Duddits, a mentally handicapped child they saved from bullies when they were younger. Duddits had a strange way of bringing joy and fun to their lives, and also that gift; Duddits was indeed a strange and special kind of boy. On what would be seeming their final hunting trip, the snow is falling hard and strange things start to happen. Why are the animals fleeing? Why are there army helicopters locking the forest down? and why did the friends find two strangers sitting alone in the snow?

Stephen King is undoubtedly a master horror writer and has given us dozens of masterpieces such as The Shining , Pet Sematary , Cujo , and Christine just to name a few. I say this because even a true legend is intitled to a few duds here and there; I feel like I have to mention this was the first book King wrote after his near-fatal accident and upon research, he was flying really high on pain meds so I give the man a break here. Dreamcatcher is one of King’s worst books. The book is drawn out and despite all that’s going on, I couldn’t help but not be invested in a story about alien slugs that explode out of your ass. Well, ok, I laughed really hard at that, which killed a lot of the suspense that the book tries to build up. Kurtz, unhinged head of the black ops team hunting the aliens down, seemed like an unremarkable King villain. As for the movie, while most of the book’s problems are present with some dodgy CGI thrown in, I have to say the actors are trying their asses off and there are some really beautiful shots here and there but alas, a good movie these things don’t make. I have to recommend the movie more because at least it breeches into WTF funny territory which helps kills the dragged-out feeling, but you can totally skip the book. Injustice (film)

What happens when Superman, the shining hero of the DC universe loses everything? After Joker pushes him to his breaking point, Superman decides the JLA must take a more brutal stance on crime and peace must be ushered in by any means necessary. The league divides, many doing everything possible to distance themselves from Superman’s extreme regime. Batman and a few others stand against them but can they beat their friend turned foe?

I love the Injustice games so this movie really bummed me the hell out. While I was never huge on the story of the first game, it had some interesting ideas and I felt bad for totalitarian Superman; I didn’t really feel much in the movie. The movie feels really overstuffed which kills the pacing so after a while things just feel like they happen to happen. The movie never reaches the ultimate dystopia of the games and comics and ultimately ends really abruptly. A lot of the characters I wanted to see throw-down were either cut completely or relegated to cameos. The voice acting fell flat mostly but Arrow and Harley stood out. The movie looks pretty nice and I do like the character designs which many are close to the games. My favorite thing was the brutal kills in the movie, made more satisfying by the R rating. In the end, the Injustice movie was a pretty big disappointment I’d recommend skipping, opting out for the much superior games instead. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Store

Bill Davis is an average guy with a regular, loving American family living in a quiet little town of mom n pop shops and a generally nice atmosphere. Until the The Store comes. The Store is a major retailer that has everything for ridiculously competitive prices that takes his town by storm. Having the businesses of town strained and the albeit rapid expansion of its premises is nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to big business, it is just the beginning. Disappearances, unexplained deaths, and a cult-like devotion to the Store is sweeping through the town; no matter the Store does, they find a way to buy themselves out, becoming a plague not only destroying the town but Bill’s own family, leaving him to question how far will they go?

Ok, so this story hit me in a nasty personal spot much like HORRORSTOR did, just on a way grander scale. I spent almost a decade of my life working for a certain evil empire I can’t name and I can tell you, anyone who’s ever worked retail, this is your worst nightmare. Unlike HORRORSTOR, this book goes to some outright disturbing places that somehow don’t feel out of the realm of possibility. What I love about the story is the Davis family and the townspeople are simple, relatable folk; the book is written with an easy, friendly style that lures you in instantly. Bently Little genuinely freaked me out while I read this and I give him a lot of credit for making a story that stuck with me and actually helped me leave the evil empire. In the end, I highly recommend this surprising read for a rare and unexpected kind of scare. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
