Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale series

gotg telltale

I can’t say I’m a fine connoisseur of Telltale games. In fact, the only other I’ve actually played was Tales from the Borderlands  which was awesome and Savior told great things about Batman: The Telltale Series and The Walking Dead Telltale Season 1 . Essentially, if you played any of the others, you get the gist of this: point and click with a story that will tug on your heartstrings. We follow our favorite Guardians (Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot.) as they come into contact with a mysterious artifact called the Eternity Forge that can revive anyone back from the dead. I’m not going too deep into the plot to avoid spoilers but if you love the characters you knew in the movie, you’ll love this game. It is not a movie game though it tries like hell to ride the vibes of the movie. It is a slow burn but satisfying by the end, just keep going with it during the slow parts but does feel bloated at times. It’s not a great game, but it’s not terrible and you get a free Platinum upon completion; I recommend it if it’s $10 or less. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dunkirk (2017) Film Review by Gareth Rhodes — Gareth Rhodes Film Reviews

Dunkirk (2017) Directed by Christopher Nolan. With Fionn Whitehead, Mark Rylance, and Tom Hardy. Writer-director Christopher Nolan’s love of cinema is a blessing to all of us. Small corners of the internet take issue with the god-like adoration directed toward him, however, he gives the impression of a man who could not be more humble when it comes to […]

Avengers

avengers

We finally come to probably one of the greatest damn superhero movies of all time as well as proof that cinematic universes can actually be done right with care.

After the events of Thor, S.H.I.E.L.D has the Tesseract and from it reemerges Loki with a badass scepter and a grudge; during his time in the deep ass end of space, he made a deal to conquer Earth with a alien army in exchange for getting to eventually recapture Asgard. Nick Fury, witnessing how under prepared they are against someone like Loki, the Avengers Initiative goes underway bringing together Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Hulk to face a colossal army and a god to save the world…

I had little faith walking into this movie; I didn’t think it was going to live up to the hype at all but holy crap it did and more. The cast and characters were spectacular with insanely awesome effects and a good blend of laughs and drama along with badass combos- I’m a sucker for super combos. This movie is pretty much every nerd’s wet dream and I can’t recommend this movie enough. Below I’m including a watchlist of phase 1, ending with Avengers as well as a music video for the film to set the mood. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Field of Dreams (1989)

field of dreams

If you build it, he will come. These are the words Ray Kinsella hears before inevitably plowing down a corn field for build a baseball field where it once stood. He also may have the most understanding while is movie and novel history.

Ray didn’t have the best relationship with his dad, and after he explains the 1919 Black Sox scandal that saw 7 players banned from baseball. It isn’t long before his skeptical wife Annie (yea shes ok) sees a man in a baseball uniform just standing around in their baseball field. Ray soon recognizes him as Shoeless Joe Jackson, one of the 7 men from the Black Sox scandal. It isn’t long before more historical players begin to show up to play on this field, tho not everyone can see them. The story however is more about family than baseball.

I won’t go into more detail just that the movie is based on  a book which many people don’t actually seem to realize for some reason. Such a classic really just needs to watched to truly be enjoyed. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The movie is an instant classic even when it released with baseball fans all over the world, so much so that in 2017 the film was added to the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress.

Venom trailer 2

Venom trailer was pretty disappointing, considering we didn’t get a damn glimpse of Venom at all but holy shit the wait was worth it. The second trailer we get a lot more of the symbiote’s ability and the first image of him in all of his scary ass glory! I’m suddenly more optimistic, though I don’t know how they will get around the Spider-man stuff  but I’m no longer dreading it. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mercury 13 (2018) — Dan the Man’s Movie Reviews

Damn men and their insecurities. It was the early 60’s and the United States had space fever. Of course, that was because they were battling the Russians to become the first country to man a spacecraft in outer-space, let alone arrive on the moon, but still. Everyone wanted to get into space, especially most of […]

Thor: Ragnarok

thor 3

So I finally rushed to finished the Thor trilogy for these reviews, after hearing how epic and amazing this third movie is. Phase 3 got really psychedelic, especially with Doctor Strange ( 2016) , Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) , and the end of Ant-Man

After Age of Ultron, Thor is on a quest to stop the fall of Asgard due to the prophecy of Ragnarok. After some dead ends, he returns to find Loki has been deceiving pretending to be Odin, after banishing him to die in a old folks home on Earth. So Thor and Loki pay a visit to Dr Strange to help find him, only to spend his last few minutes with his sons. Hela, Odin’s true first child and and damn near invincible goddess of death, comes forth to take the throne, destroying Thor’s hammer and bringing Asgard to its knees. Thor finds himself stranded, wounded in an failed escape on a world ruled by the tyrannical Game Master, aided by a past Valkyrie, forced to fight his way out against his old, angry friend Hulk. Can Thor overcome these impossible odds, find his true power and save his people?

I’m going to be honest, I loved this movie but somehow it annoyed the hell out of me. Visually it’s one of the most beautiful movies in the MCU. It has the most action in the whole Thor trilogy; I laughed my ass off a few times and the use of Led Zeppelin is beyond epic. Cate Blancett was awesome as Hela and Jeff Goldblum was great as Game Master. So what’s the catch? For me I feel like there were a lot of times the comedy diluted what could have been some good dramatic moments; series long characters die and it’s just meh. In the end its one hell of a fun movie at the end of the day and well worth the watch. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Of Mice and Sand Revised (PS4)

of mice and sand

The other day I am rummaging thru games just looking to send some of my girlfriends hard-earned cash, with her permission of course. She is cool like that. That is when I see this game, that some how I had no clue existed. Now I had no choice but to buy this weird has hell looking game. Its mice, traveling the desert looking for El Dorado. Yea that is what is going on here.

The graphics are as basic as basic get, and honestly that is a good thing. This actually helps the game, these simplistic yet cute graphics actually add a certain charm to the game that many titles today are missing.

The sound is also quite honestly well below what most titles today offer, but again it is good enough especially at the price point the game is offered and again it really does just add to the charm.

The game however can get a bit repetitive, just like any other city builder. Make no mistake by the way, that is exactly what this game is when you boil it down. As you travel from out post to out post running into various situations that I won’t spoil for you, there will be rooms and items to build.

All in all tho for $10 the game is a blast, looks and sounds charming and is simply addictive to play, I had a lot of fun and will for a the foreseeable future. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Ghost Team (2016)

ghost team

Ghost Team is an odd movie, it’s a comedy that isn’t funny but is not, not funny. The story is about a group of friends that decide to go on a ghost hunt, just like on their favorite television show. So they borrow ( well steal) some equipment, go to an abandoned place in the woods and start their hunt.

Things start getting weird pretty damn quick. There are voices, and images on cameras and electricity going on and off. Things are just horrible. It doesn’t take long for things however to get even worse.I won’t spoil that surprise for you tho.

The movie itself, isn’t bad. It does seem to try way to hard at times tho to be both edgy and immature at the same time and fails completely to do both. The movie simply isn’t good, which is quite upsetting for a movie with Jon Heder and Justin Long since both are amazing actors and are great in everything they do. Even in this they play their parts well, they simply weren’t given anything to work with. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled

wishmaster 4

Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled is the 4th and final Wishmaster movie, thankfully. Once again John Novak returns as the Djinn, and this one is a bit different. Still bad, still the same plot, but this time the Djinn tries to be nice to our chosen one with the 3 wishes. He still does the usual with everyone else, you know kills people while twisting their wishes or taking things way to literal with their wish.

The nudity is still here for I assume the same reason as the last one when it suddenly showed up, covering up a bad story. This time a woman (Lisa) is trying to help her boyfriend win a lawsuit after a motorcycle accident. Her lawyer that loves her gives her a gift that turns out to contain a stone that once again releases the Djinn. Lisa uses her first 2 wishes to unknowingly help her boyfriend and the third, weirdly creates a paradox. She doesn’t know the Djinn isn’t her actually her lawyer and wishes she could love her for who he is, which messes things up a bit since love must be given freely and only she could grant that wish.

The whole thing is convoluted and makes no real damn sense. Honestly I would watch the first 2 Wishmaster movies and pretend the other 2 don’t exist. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
