Nautical Life on Mobile is a cute game about buying a yacht, traveling the world and fishing. The graphics are nice, furnishing your ship is fun and gathering a fleet of fishing vessels to gather riches is kinda neat. There are some major flaws here, mainly in the fishing itself. The process itself isn’t bad, but from the very start you run into fish you would need to be very lucky to catch. The money you receive to buy a new rod is also slow to gather and can be frustrating. You, of course, can use premium currency to get an edge in this offline game, but really with so many games to choose from this one simply isn’t worth paying money into. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mo Amer: The Vagabond
As some of you may have noticed I have been back on my stand-up kick lately, so today I was checking out Mo Amer. I hadn’t seen him before or even really heard of him beyond seeing him as I scrolled pass on Netflix. The good news is, I am happy I decided to watch this. This Arab American Muslim uses his experiences to make people laugh in unexpected ways. Admittedly in today’s world, many people would see some of his jokes as inappropriate, for example, he talks about how his brother Omar decided to become a pilot or that he has a nephew named Osama and he can’t really use his name at Walmart and has to use fake names. Which he finds it unfair because all the terrorist attacks from white people haven’t forced people named Timothy to change their name.
Again obviously with context, these jokes make more sense, but if reading about this strikes a nerve with you, maybe you shouldn’t watch him. However, I enjoyed it including his story of going back to Kuwait, the country his family fled when he was 9 to do a comedy show for the troops. For me, it was a pretty cool perspective from a comedian. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Star Trek Fleet Command (Mobile)
Honestly, there isn’t a ton to say about this game, which saddens me. As a Trek fan, I was hoping for something special and fun, and it is a decent enough game. What it is tho is a free to play base building game with both PVE and PVP elements to it. It is also just like any other more or less pay to win. You can obviously grind out the materials and such to grow strong enough to play, but you will never compete with the people sinking money into the game,
The one thing I did like tho was while you are waiting for the inevitably longer and longer times to tick away you can use your ships to kill CPU enemy ships or eventually other human players. It was a pretty nice touch but it isn’t enough to really change it from just being more of the same. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Welcome to December
December First is here, this means a lot to me for a number of reasons. First, it is the last month of the 2nd year of Savior Gaming. Second, the 16th is my birthday and 3rd, and possibly most importantly baby savior is finally old enough to really be fun in the winter.
Anyway this month I am going to try to review some Christmas movies, play some games and all around just enjoy the month. So sit back, have a merry Christmas, happy Hannukah or whatever holiday you celebrate and just enjoy the month. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Chris D’elia: Man on Fire
Chris D’elia, from now on known as Chris because honestly, I don’t know how to say his last name. I also didn’t really know who he was but he seemed pretty funny. Not like your typical comedian funny but more like Georgie Carlin style where he simply comments on life. This mostly was the case tho he did tell a few stories about his personal life, such as his friend buying him pants that fit for his birthday. This will probably piss a few people off honestly but I thought it was quite hilarious.
He also goes on about how people, in general, aren’t special nor are you the main character in movies like you think you are. He is obviously much funnier but he has a valid point as well. The standup does have quite a bit of swearing and offensive language, which for me is no big deal but do not watch this with kids or if you work out a lot and don’t like having your balls busted about it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Breath of Fire 3: Under Rated Classic
Breath of Fire 3 was the first Breath of Fire on the original PlayStation. It is the classic turned based JRPG that like every Breath of Fire tells the story of Ryu and the dragon clan. The characters are well written, the transformations were amazing and for their time were quite original. The battle system also lets you examine enemies during your turn and certain moves could be learned this way if they used them.
The game is loved by many but it surprises me how many people actually prefer Breath of Fire 4, a game I feel is far inferior in both story and battle system. From the very start of 3, your attention is drawn into the young dragon that becomes a young boy that is found by other orphans Rhi and Teepo. Later after they get into trouble you struggle to find them and end up with a princess and guardian. The story explodes from there but always the quest to find your friends Rhi and Teepo continues. Breath of Fire 4 never really had that for me. At no point was I truly attached to the characters or really cared what was happening to the world like I did 3.
For me, Breath of Fire 3 is one of the greatest games of all time, yet for some reason, people I know continue to look at 4 as the better game and I don’t understand it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Beyond the Beyond, The Game I Enjoyed That People Seem To Hate.

Beyond The Beyond is a game I played as a kid. I liked the characters and the turn-based battles and just the graphics at the time. The game isn’t perfect and is well known for having an insanely high encounter rate, dungeons that were long and insufferably annoying and even had a character that spent half the game cursed and was pretty much useless. All of this is true, and I enjoyed it anyway.
Don’t get me wrong, all the criticisms of the game are warranted and have merit. You really couldn’t walk 6 feet without a battle and god forbid you wanted to simply attack with Sampson, the guy I mentioned was cursed the entire game. The story was also cliche and cliche comes. A child turns out to be the chosen one, fights a great evil that is controlling an empire. Nothing special at all, yet I still loved the game, and I can not truly explain why. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Civilization VI (PC)
With the new expansion coming soon, called Gathering Storm, my friend got quite excited and wanted someone to play with. So with Black Friday sales abound I get an email on steam, turns out my friend decided I was the one to play this game with. I was a huge fan of Civ 2 and Revolution and I put a little time into Civ V so I am hardly a noob in the series, but this one is quite a bit different.
First, very few upgrades are built in your cities. They now are built by aptly named builders, units with limited uses. Districts are built in tiles around your city, just like farms and such would be. Another addition is governors, each one has their own abilities and skills to help run your cities.
Outside of a few of these finer points, the general idea of the game is actually quite the same. Build units and towns, grow your empire and win certain types of victories tho now you can win a religious victory. For me personally, I have enjoyed this Civilization game more than most and I suggest picking it up. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia
Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia is the new stand-up from Trevor Noah, and it is a bit different than usual. That isn’t to say it is bad, it is quite humorous. He will discuss topics such as his vacation to Bali and why he shouldn’t have let his friend plan it all, his first experience with tacos and the difference between racism in American and his homeland. The runtime is around one hour, so it isn’t a long watch but honestly, this one isn’t for everyone and certainly is not for children. The portion on racism will be uncomfortable for many people simply because of the language he usees. It is interesting and quite funny, but for some, he may use certain words more than you would like.
As a whole however this isn’t the typical stand-up I expect from him and while I enjoyed it the special is different than usual, but give it a shot. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Should Video Games Be Viewed The Same As Books and Movies?
Any of you that went to school know what High School was like. Or you know years 9-12 for those non-Americans. You get stuck reading books many of us don’t want to read by Shakespear or having to read Moby Dick. We have seen War and Peace and thought screw that, the book is huge. You hear the same sentiments about movies, the Godfather for example or Citizen Kane are revered as some of the best movies of all time. Even many people that don’t really read or watch movies know many of the things I just named. The question is, should video games be viewed and revered in the same way?
Well for starters, about two-thirds of Americans own some sort of video game playing device. I couldn’t find the numbers for other countries but I imagine it is at least similar, so most people seem to own something to play video games on whether it be a console or PC. It basically can’t get any more mainstream than it currently is. There are websites dedicated to it, there are entire Esports leagues that give away million dollar prizes and companies that sponsor them. So why is it when people discuss books and movies they are essentially high-class art, but video games are still just the ugly stepchild of media and entertainment?
The question is why? They have their own art style much like a movie or even a painting or drawing. They tell stories that are thought out, written and teach lessons just like movies or books, but also sometimes are simply about action and adventure or friendship. However, unlike other forms of media, there is a barrier of entry for all of it. Books and movies won’t tell you no if you aren’t good enough. You can simply look up words you don’t understand for a book or movie. Games, on the other hand, won’t let you advance if you lack the skill to play it. They are designed to make you learn certain skills.
They also have other similarities to other mediums of entertainment and media in that they take a ton of time to create. Some games take years to create and write and have hundreds of people involved. They can be massive undertakings just like a movie. So why are they many times so looked down on?
Well, honestly I think it is because of how new they are. Relatively speaking they are the newest addition to the entertainment realm. Books are thousands of years old and movies over 100 at this point. Video games, however, are young, in fact, my parents remember when you could not buy a home console. There was a time when books were burned because of their contents, hell that still happens. I remember being a kid and being mocked and laughing at because I loved video games and now many of those same people are talking about them daily. So while right now video games aren’t viewed the same I think someday games will be viewed as important and artistic as movies and books. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
