Far: Lone Sails (PS4)

As always I like to get my full disclosure out of the way, Far: Lone Sails is made by Okomitive who was kind enough to give me a review copy of the game. It is always appreciated.

Far: Lone Sails is a simple concept. Take your machine (shown below) and travel this seemingly post-apocalyptic world.

You have quite a bit to manage between keeping your engine going, picking up the items you use for fuel and not smashing into things. The further you go however you can upgrade your ship. I won’t spoil what upgrades you get, but they do make certain things easier or give you fewer things within your ship to focus on, but this does come with a trade-off. While things are easier within your ship things outside get a bit tougher.

The game, however, is never all that hard, and I don’t believe it is meant to be. I had quite the relaxing time with this game. Watching the scenery go by was amazing and beautiful. The weather changing, the ever-changing world as amazing to look at.

The sound was also nice, the chugging of the engines the steam pushing the ship faster, me slamming it into a wall. All the sounds in game served their purpose well and the music set the scene in ways I never expected going into it. I was constantly thinking about what could possibly have happened to this world, wondering why it became what it is, where am I going, where did this ship come from? These are the questions I had kept me going. Are there answers? I won’t tell you. I knew nothing about this game going into it and you shouldn’t either. The true joy of the game is simply going and seeing it all.

The game isn’t perfect, as no game is but I truthfully can’t point to anything truly wrong with it aside from it being rather short and for its price point ($14.99 I believe on Steam and consoles I believe) that isn’t an issue. This one is a solid 9/10 worth buying. I greatly enjoyed it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Deadpool vs Carnage

dp v carnage

A while back I talked about this story in my list of 5 of my favorite Deadpool stories and randomly before heading off to my job that ain’t Saviorgaming, I plucked this bad boy off my comic bookcase and started reading it for old time sake. Both insane, murderous, red wearing smartasses that are nearly unkillable, this was bound to get messy…

The story begins with Cleatus Kassidy, the human part of Carnage, in prison for the murder sprees and mayhem he’s known for. This time he’s broken into near sanity without his other. Nearly hundreds of miles away the Carnage symbiote is being experimented on, yearning for it’s perfect host to bond with again. It breaks free of captivity, leching from one body to another until reuniting with Kassidy, becoming Carnage once again- vowing to serve true chaos once again, ditching plans of bigger things and devoting himself to pure bloody anarchy. And that he does in a horrendous killing spree, virtually unopposed, until Wade catches him on the TV one night. Wade, Deadpool, believes the ” TV people” are telling him he’s the only one crazy enough to be able to hunt down psycho and with that, the hunt is on. Blood spills on both sides until Carnage’s girl Shriek joins him and Deadpool seems screwed but he finds the mysterious Mercury team, trying to use the symbiotes for military use and suddenly Wade finds himself trying to fight fire with fire…

A majority of this comic feels like a R rated, bloody lost episode of Looney Tunes and it’s awesome. Both characters are evenly badass and have sweet moments throughout. I like how Deadpool of all people is the voice of reason and we get a good glimpse of him being disgusted by Carnage’s ruthless nature, making a more complex contrast than expected. The artwork is really solid and like typical Marvel fashion there is a nice prologue in the beginning, explaining both characters for the new comers so it’s very easy to pick up. I recommend as a good, funny, action packed quick read. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Games I keep going back to.

We all have games that for whatever reason we just can’t quit, even if we want to. Maybe we just love the challenge or we simply need to prove we can beat the game or maybe there is something else. Here are just some random games I can’t seem to quit.

For my long time followers, you probably knew Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition (and its many DLC and PC versions) would be on the list. You also know I am not great at the game, tho looking at my trophy list I seem to be better than many. People seem to fall into three categories, gods at building stuff and can’t get off Kerbin. The smaller third category is like me and can get to a few places, but not many. Either way, I will probably play this for years to come.

Dark Souls 2 Scholars of the First Sin is another game I don’t stop playing despite my many issues with it. I want to beat it because I personally don’t know anyone that has finished it and I feel one of us has despite it being such a bad yet good game.

Cities Skylines PlayStation 4 is another game I go back to and I know why. I loved Sim City as a kid. This is my new Sim City and sometimes I just want to sit down and see what can happen and I come up with. Will my city do well? Will it burn? I have no clue, but I like to find out.

Phantasy Star 4 Sega Genesis Classics is one of my favorite games of all time, and I play it probably once a year or so and have since it was released on the Sega Genesis.

So what about you guys? What are the games that keep you all coming back? Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Sega Genesis Mini

Sega is joining in on the nostalgia train, and this September will be releasing a mini Sega Genesis with 40 games and cost $80. There is a partial list over at Polygon, tho my only real concern is there is already a pretty substantial collection on the Xbox, Sony, and Switch. Many of the games in this mini already exist on there, so I am hard pressed to believe they will find 40 games warranting that price tag. It will be interesting to see tho, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Annabelle comes home trailer

Am I the only one who finds it weird that that are officially more Annabelle movies than Conjuring movies in the Conjuring-universe? I love The Conjuring (2013) and thought The Conjuring 2 was alright but never understood why the hell WB thought making a cinematic universe out of these movies was a good idea, Annabelle: Creation being the only one in the series of spin-offs to be critically acclaimed. What to I make of Annabelle 3? Sadly I can’t say it’ll join Creation as the exception; I like the Warrens are actually in it and one or shot look cool but the rest of the trailer just feels like every other bland horror movie out there today. I hope I’m wrong as an optimist but time will tell. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

A Horde Too Many by Digitality Studios Live on Kickstarter — All The PlayStation You’ll Ever Need.

A Horde Too Many is a game we can really sink our teeth in…we are not the horde I promise. The small Indie developer Digitality Studios based in Portugal is working on a side-scrolling Post-Apocalyptic RPG with survival, base building and tower defense gameplay. In the game you will need to craft items from supplies…

Romero Games And Paradox Interactive Team Up

Reported by Variety and announced on Twitter by Brenda Romero, Romero Games (Gunman Taco Truck and Dangerous Dave in the Deserted Pirate’s Hideout) for mobile. Not much has been said, except that more will be announced at E3 this year and it is a strategy game of some sort. Don’t let the name Romero fool you tho, it is a pretty popular last name and there is no relation with the famed director George A Romero so chances are it is not a horror-themed game despite some speculation I have seen in some forums. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Joker trailer 1

I’ve always had a weird feeling about knowing Joker was getting a solo origin movie. Much like Venom , I wasn’t sure if a villain movie could be as effective without the heroes they counter. But Joaquin Phoenix is a very talented dramatic actor and I actually found the new look interesting. The trailer looks eerie and I like Phoenix’s narrations. I’m now pretty invested in this now and I’m excited to see how the movie plays out. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Playstation To Allow Returns On Preorders, Provided You Don’t Download It.

As reported by TechRadar Sony will now be allowing returns of preorders with a few rules of course. First, you can’t download it, and yes that includes pre-loading the game. However, this is good until launch if you ordered more than 14 days before launch. There is more to it and the TechRadar link provides more details, but those are the big points you need to know, most notably the don’t download it part. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Scream 4

scream 4

Before I start talking about Scream 4, I feel I have to say this now: I love the Scream series and its directer, the legendary Wes Craven of The Hills Have Eyes , Last House on the Left , and Nightmare on Elm Street . Sadly, as far as I know, this was Craven’s last mainstream movie before he passed away years later. In the end, I don’t want to shit on this movie, but I have to be honest when doing this review…

Like many horror movies, Sidney Prescott’s story has been subject of tasteless, aimless sequel after sequel. Sid has become a famous, nationwide bestselling author who returns to her hometown as part of her book tour. Dewey is the town sheriff in charge while an unhappy Gale loses her mind as a writer in a small town. Meanwhile Sid’s younger cousin is seeming to have to repeat Sid’s past when a new killer is emerging, more violent than the ones in the past, trying to make a real life reboot.

So here we have a the definition of a pointless sequel. Besides an alright twist at the end and a funny opening scene, the movie doesn’t really have much to offer. Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox give good performances with Emma Roberts but the rest of the cast lacks enthusiasm. The movie drags a bit and lacks the tension of the other films because the characters no longer really drive it. While far from worst horror sequel ever, I don’t see a reason for it to exist except for an excuse to beat money out of a dormant franchise and I’m sad to see this be Craven’s last major movie so I say it’s great to skip. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
