Beetleborgs

beetleborgs

Well this is a weird childhood gem of mine. Saban’s Big Bad Beelteborgs and Beetleborgs: Metallix were two shows similar to Power Rangers but somehow stranger. You have kids voicing over grown people in suits, rubber monsters, and giant vehicles that come out of nowhere. Yep, welcome to the 90’s. Beetleborgs is the story of three average kids, Drew, Roland, and Jo as they venture into a haunted house one day. Discovering it’s full of monsters they unexpectedly set off a chain of events that release Flabber, a magic ghost from an old pipe organ, who rewards them by transforming them into there favorite comic book superheroes the Beetleborgs to combat a villian released from the comics as well…wow the 90’s was full of weird shit. In some way, you can call this an obscure Power Rangers clone- both from Saban as a matter of a fact- but it has it’s own unique charm. The monsters of the house are goofy and annoying in that funny kind of way, always chasing our heroes to eat them in some pretty funny scenes and Flabber trying to fight them back makes it all the better. The borgs themselves look fairly cool and a tad less cheesy than the classic Power Rangers. The damn theme music is just as catchy as the Ranger theme in my opinion. The villians aren’t very memorable though. All in all, it’s worth checking out on Netflix and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Wes Craven Presents They

They

They is about a college student that grew up having night terrors that return after a childhood friend calls her freaking out. He explains that They only come out at night, hate light and they mess with electricity and that babies sense them and cry. He then proceeds to shoot himself in the diner.

Slowly as the movie goes on Julia moves from thinking her friend was insane and very sick to thinking maybe he wasn’t wrong. Things start turning weird for her and her night terrors return. She even wakes up in her bathroom and attack her boyfriend not realizing who it was. The movie is largely a psychological journey like many of Wes Cravens films. The acting is nice and visually there is nothing to complain about, tho while interesting I did find the movie a bit boring for much of it. I won’t say not to watch it, but it won’t be for everyone. As always may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Goosebumps

goosebumps

I was insanely in love with Goosebumps as a kid. Hell, even as an adult me and Savior still find a bit of fondness for the series. R.L. Stine’s children’s horror series was huge in the 90’s, whether it was in the books or the show, it was damn near inescapable growing up then. The books are fast and memorable, having some good tension built up in stories like Welcome to Dead House and Say cheese and Die. Seriously, twenty some years old reading them I actually felt a little bit tense. As for the show, three stories stick out to me above the rest- The Haunted Mask 1 and 2, The Werewolf of Fever Swamp, and the Night of the Living Dummy stories. Slappy the dummy from that show creeps me out way more than Chucky or Annabelle, I don’t know how or why but that bastard creeps me out. What makes Goosebumps stand out most of all is the creativity behind the stories. Though a lot of the monsters and ghouls are things we’ve seen but Stine finds ways of making them his own. If you have Netflix, definitely check it out and many of the books can be found at your local library.

Jurassic World Evolution

Jurasic world Evolution will allow you to build your own dinosaur theme park around the release of the movie. Not much has been released about this new project from Frontier however back in the Original Xbox and PS2 days there was a game called operation Genesis which was basically the same thing and to this day is one of my favorite games from my childhood.

Regardless I am looking forward to building my own park and maybe letting a few dinosaurs escape to kill a few things. May the gaming gods have mercy on my soul, and bring you glory.

Top 5 badasses of DC

So I thought a nice east way to transition back into my DC thread in time for the JLA movie, of which Savior and I plan on reviewing for you guys, would be just to talk about some of my favorite badass DC characters. In no particular order, let’s begin…

mera 1. Mera- It’s very rare in comics and fiction in general where the female lead is as badass if not more so than her male counterpart. Mera is queen of Atlantis and wife to Arthur Curry- Aquaman. I fell in love with her during Blackest Night, she was strong but vulnerable, overcoming her grief to fight back against the Black Lanterns and watching her acquire a red lantern ring was beyond epic. Besides being able to swim fast and breath underwater she is super strong and durable and can control water to varying degrees. I watched her almost dry a man out by mere contact, only stopping before his blood depleted and he almost wasn’t able to breathe, what’s more badass than that?

jon stewart  2. Jon Stewart- Whereas Hal Jordan is the reckless smartass Green Lantern, Guy Gardner is the average joe, and Kyle Raynor os practically a messiah, Stewart stands out because of his quiet demeanor, darker origin as marine corp sniper, and and his construct preference of guns and more practical weapons. Jon Stewart takes no shit on the battlefield but the man has a heart, and that’s what makes him a great character.

deathstroke 3. Deathstroke/ Slade- Whether you knew him as the diabolical Slade in the early 2000’s Teen Titan cartoon or watched in utter amazement the fight between him and Batman in Arkham Origins or hell even got the little tidbit Deadpool is pretty close to this augmented assassin. A master of several forms of hand to hand combat, marksmanship, and master with an insane amount of weapons, this soldier is imbued with enchanced strength, reflexes, agility, and regenerative capability- except for his missing eye. No comment on that. Whether he’s dicking over the Suicide Squad in the comics or declaring vengeance on Oliver Queen on Arrow, Deathstroke is always a good time.

dex starr  4. Dex Starr- he’s just as adorable as he is dangerous. This tragic red lantern maybe a former house cat but he still will fry you with his rage; closely associated with Atrocitus, leader of the hateful Red Lantern Corp, they share a sad bond over the rage of loss. Big things really do come in small packages.

red hood  5. Red Hood/ Arkham Knight – Jason Todd, Batman’s second Robin, was killed horribly by the Joker when he was a teen. Years later Gotham’s criminal underground is getting wrecked by a man wearing a red hood just as Joker did before the fall, and moves like Batman. Against his mentor he’s formidable, retaining his former master’s fighting skills and know how but not the restraint. He kills without remorse because he feels if Batman would, all the chaos and death his villains cause wouldn’t happen,  and so the Red Hood exists to prove such a point.

I hope you all enjoyed and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

5 Favorite Heros

Like my last one about villains this one is in no real order, and only 1 per series. Spoilers will be involved.

H1 mario

Mario is self explanatory. Probably the biggest and original gaming icon. He has saved kingdoms, multiple princesses, destroyed evil gangs won some cart races, played every sport imaginable and this is just the tip of the Mario resume. He should be the head of any hero list.

H2 Vivi

“How do you prove that you exist? Maybe we don’t exist” This is the guiding question for the absolute most adorable black mage ever created. Seriously if you play this game and don’t love Vivi you may not even be human. He may also be the most powerful black mage to ever exist.

H3 Doom guy

Lets be honest, without Doom Guy and his BFG first person shooters would not be what they are today. This man went to hell and back for humanity more times than once, and that earns this nameless man his spot.

H4 mega man

The Blue Bomber may be the originator of hard games for me, but he also has saved the world probably more than anyone on this list. His constant battle with evil robots seems to be never ending, and i’m ok with that.

H5 leon

Leon S. Kennedy of Resident evil 2 resident evil 4 and resident evil 6 is the undeniable workhorse of the resident Evil world. Whether its shooting zombies as a cop, protecting the Presidents daughter from a cult or whatever the hell was going on in 6, Leon is the man.

Invader Zim

zim

Zim and Gir will always be close to my heart. This Nickelodeon cartoon was creepy if not damn right disturbing at times but had a sort of dark manic humor that your average early 2000’s cartoon didn’t have, that was quickly dying with the 90’s. Invader Zim is the story of Zim, a disgraced alien conqueror sent to Earth on a bogus mission with his lovable but defective servant droid Gir as they try desperately to conquer our world undetected. But Dib suspects Zim’s secret, a young man in Zim’s class obsessed with aliens and government conspiracies who wants to go down in history for dissecting Zim….This show pushed a lot of boundaries with it’s more mature themes like Zim stealing organs because he’s afraid the school nurse will discover he ain’t human, that always stuck with me. I don’t recommend this to the easily creeped or weirded out but for that insane weird kid at heart, definitely worth watching on Hulu.

Top 5 Stephen King adaptations

king So this year’s IT remake is crushing box office records, and rightfully so. If you grew up anytime between the 80’s and 90’s, chances are you’ve heard the tales of Stephen King. If like me you grew up with parents that liked horror, some of your first nightmares came from a King based movie, so I just wanted to give you all my list of best King adaptations. Granted, these are just my personal favorites, listed from least to greatest.

The Mist

5. The Mist- holy shit this movie is sad. Like seriously heart wrenching shit. Simply The Mist is about a group of people who loose it trapped in a grocery store during a mysterious monster filled mist. I loved that the mist wasn’t so much the true horror as it was religious madness that spread throughout the people. The characters are relate able, there’s a fair amount of gore and good acting so definitely check it out before watching the show.

misery film  4. Misery- I second guessed being a writer after this way too real horror story of a writer who finds himself face to face with his batshit insane biggest fan. Someday soon I will be doing a combo review on the book and movie and while I like the book better the movie is pretty damn close. Kathy Bates is amazing as the psychotic Annie Wilkes in a performance I can’t credit enough.

carrie 2002 3. Carrie (2002)- A lot of people aren’t even aware this even exists and it’s a damn shame. Everyone knows the original 76 movie and many know of the well publicized 2013 remake, but I adore the 2002 made for TV remake much more. First, I love Angela Bettis as Carrie, being sympathetic, desperate, but showing a delicate inner strength I think fits the character beautifully. The effects are epic and I appreciate how close to the book it stays, straying away for a new ending I liked very much. Harder to find but definitely worth the time.

it  2. IT (2017)- Quite possibly the best movie I’ve seen all year, this remake took me greatly by surprise. I love the mini series for all it’s whacky shit but the remake is gritty and dark, full of both great child actors and Bill Skarrsgard is amazing as Pennywise, it’s one hell of a ride.

Pet Sematary 1. Pet Sematary- The movie that introduced me to Stephen King, a movie that still lingers with Michael Myers and a hive of Aliens in the depths of my earliest nightmares comes the story that dares to ask what if the dead didn’t have to stay dead? Roughly 30 years old this movie holds up great with memorable performances, freaky imagery, and a sad second half that will let you know why sometimes dead is better.

5 Favorite Villains

This will be a little different. This is just 5 of my favorite bad guys. The simple rules I set for myself were no repeats from a series since admittedly it would just be RPG characters. They also are not in any particular order. Suffice it to say there will be spoilers.

V1 Pagan min

The bad guy of Far Cry 4, Pagan Min. This guy is flamboyant, intelligent and bat shit crazy. After beating a guy to death with what appears to be an ink pen, he takes you back to his place for a nice meal. From here you can wait around and get the hidden ending or leave blow shit up and eventually end up in the same spot, but either way Pagan Min makes the trip worth it.

V2 luca blight

Luca Bright of Suikoden 2 is the epitome of a bad guy that is insane with good reason. I won’t get into much detail but t has to do with his mother. This dude grows up, grabs a family ruin and goes on a killing spree with an army. At one point he makes a woman crawl around and act like a pig, then he kills her anyway pretty much for being a pig. This dude also like a champ taking tons of arrows before the fight then giving you a run for your money.

v3 Ardyn Izunia

Ardyn Izunia is the newest character on the list, but no less deserving. This guy is charismatic and incidentally incredibly powerful, but what would you expect from a guy that is immortal?  This guy also happens to be the guy on this list that comes closest to destroying the world.

V4 Zeon

Zeon is the oldest entry and comes from an old Sega Genesis   game called  Shining Force 2. Zeon is also the most truly evil person here. His existence is for no other reason than to be king of the demons and wants to rule the world and destroy the gods themselves. He also has no issue burning his own people alive that fail or displease him.

V5 Zombie Hitler

The only member of the list based entirely off a real person, from the Zombie Army Trilogy series none other than Zombie Hitler. In fact I basically bought this game to see and hopefully shoot Zombie Hitler. What is there to know? Whats wore than Hitler? Zombie Hitler.

If you decide to go chasing these evil bastards down stay safe, and may the gaming gods bring you  glory.
