PlayStation Now Is The Biggest Gaming Subscription Service, But How?

Recently PushSquare released an article stating that the biggest market share in gaming subscription services ( not counting things such as Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus) inexplicably belonged to PlayStation Now. You can see even more on that from the people that did the research at SuperData. But how can this be accurate? I have used the service, and it isn’t great. Playstation Now is a solid but flawed and overpriced service against a reasonable and useful Gamepass from Microsoft, tho admittedly it PSnow has more games. So how did this happen? Well, let us try to figure this out.

First, there are a couple things we need to get out of the way. In pure sales alone, not accounting for anything else, there is no console war between Sony and Microsoft because Sony has won this generation. This report is a little dated but as you can see here. We can estimate that Xbox has sold around 30 million units while Sony has sold around 70 million. Obviously, both of those numbers have since gone up but seeing as how Sony has over 2-1 on consoles sales we can see that that gap hasn’t closed significantly.

What this means is Sony has a huge advantage in potential customer base for their subscription market. Now this has recently gone up with Microsoft launching Gamepass on PC so this gap will close as time goes on, but for now, the gap exists.(Sony also has theirs available on PC. The price point also matters as market share is determined as a percentage of total sales in an industry. For example, if you were selling candy bars and your class sold 100 bars for $1 and you sold 1 of those candy bars your market share would be  1%.

Gamepass is (rounding up) $10 and Psnow is (again rounding up) $20 you can see Sony only needs to sell 1 to get the same share as 2 of Microsoft. With what can only be described as a huge advantage in potential customers and twice the price point while it seems highly unlikely, this is how Sony has managed to have a higher market share in streaming service. They simply have a larger customer base and price point. This is also why Sony does very little to improve much of what they have, they are making money at an amazing rate and have no reason in their minds to change. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Red Dead Redemption 2, Another Look.

I did an initial Red Dead Redemption 2 First Impressions and I have to admit, I still haven’t beat the story. Outside of games, I have reviewed and what my friends and daughter have asked me to play I haven’t played anything else, but I still haven’t managed to finish the story. That isn’t to say I haven’t done some great stuff. I have explored a beautiful world, tamed a rare horse, threw dynamite at the KKK, murdered and robbed my way across the entire map and spent hours upon hours hunting.

Quite honestly, the game is most likely game of the year. I can’t imagine a game-winning out over Red Dead Redemption 2. The story so far is amazingly done. The characters are deep, the world is rich and vibrant and each person seems to have their own personality and wants and needs. The game is truly a work of art.

That being said, I won’t pretend the game is perfect. The controls can be a bit weird at times, but mostly they are as I said in the past quite fluid and well done. The aiming while great with the aim assist can also be a bit janky when you attempt to not use the assist. I also still have no idea what happens when your horse dies because they don’t really explain what happens if your horse dies. There are actually a few things the game doesn’t explain very well tho admittedly this was half the fun, just discovering how to do these things.

No, the game isn’t perfect and the online portion isn’t released yet to even comment on. But game of the year? Almost guaranteed. Game of the decade? It’s definitely in the running. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Jeff Who Lives At Home

Jeff Who Lives At Home is the movie of a loser that lives in mom’s basement having a pretty crap day after watching the movie Signs (2002) A bit of weed, a strange phone call for a guy named Kevin and his mom demanding he fix the piece of a door.

The movie mostly follows Jeff through his day as he takes a bus to get some glue but is interrupted to play some basketball, smoke more weed, gets mugged. He also helps his brother when he suspects his wife may be cheating on him. Turns out finding your destiny isn’t easy.

The movie is slow and not very action oriented and quite honestly is not for most people. I thought it was fun and interesting and I enjoyed it, but I don’t think there is much here for your average movie fan looking for some action. It relies heavily on the person watching wanting to sit and think about the bigger things in life as well as which honestly isn’t what most people want to do. I do suggest you watch it regardless tho. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

From The Creator of Undertale, Deltarune

Gamespot is reporting that the creator of Undertale, Toby Fox, has released a new and free game called Deltarune, tho it does seem that the 2 games are connected as he does specifically tell people that completed Undertale to check the Undertale Twitter account. Either way, it could be worth it for fans to check out. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Smallville Season One

In much the same way I did the Supernatural series I decided to check out Supernatural starting in season one. Now I saw the first couple seasons years ago years ago when it was on the air but honestly, the show started in 2002 so it wasn’t long into the show I joined the Army  and had my first kid, so I lost track of the show and many other things so after a point I will be seeing this show for the first time.

Season one starts as you would expect, introducing us to the characters, Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luther, Sam Jones III as his best friend Pete Ross Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang and the much less popular these days due to her very odd legal troubles, Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan. The stories are mostly self-contained, for example in one episode he is trying to solve how fires are popping up all around school only to discover they are controlled by a very angry football coach trying to protect his legacy and his soon to be a record-setting amount of games won.

The season does have a few over-arching stories tho, for example, the love triangle between Clark, Chloe and eventually Lana. Clark and Lana despite living close together won’t start out as friends, in fact, the meteor shower is what brings Clark and kryptonite to Earth, which killed Lana’s parents and she wears a piece around her neck. It will take a while before Clark figures out what makes him sick, and at least in season one it simply called meteor rocks, but we all know what it is. The first season tho is enjoyable, and I Having already started season two I feel like that will be even better. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Sega Forever Shining Force 2

Shining Force 2 is one of my all time favorite games and I don’t even have to stop and think if this belongs on the list. Once again I will not be giving you a full review simply saying how it works on android. Which is a good thing, because it doesn’t. The game is actually quite unplayable. It sounds and Looks good but as soon as you start to fight and use a spell with Sara the games healer the game freezes and quite honestly the game is essentially useless that way. This I am sure will eventually be fixed but until that day, don’t waste your time. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Most Likely To Murder (2018)

Most Likely to murder is the typical story of the king of the school returning home to find out he isn’t really the king any longer. Billy’s (Adam Pally) old friends hate him, his old fling hates him, really only his best friend is happy to see him. Who can blame them tho, he is trapped in high school to the point he even came home and expected to cruise around in the same car.

When Billy runs into Kara (Rachel Bloom) and discovers she may or may not be dating the guy he used to bully, Lowell (Vincent Kartheiser) he kind of looses it a bit, goes on a drinking bender and witnesses a murder he attempts to prove that Lowell’s mom died not on accident, but because is former torture target is the weirdo he always claimed he was.

The movie is at times honestly cringe worthy with how billy behaves and comes off and others the movie does an amazing job showing how people obsessed with high school being the best time of their lives can truly lose sight of how times and people change even when they do not. The movie isn’t bad by any stretch but it would hardly be fair to call this a masterpiece. It isn’t a great comedy, but it is an interesting one. It isn’t for everyone but it is enjoyable, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Sega Forever:Shining Force

Shining Force has been a game I have enjoyed for a long time so it being added to Sega Forever was pretty exciting for me. Now I will be reviewing Shining Force one and Two separately but they do come in one download with Shining in the Darkness. Obviously as I have already reviewed the game I won’t be fully reviewing it but more saying how it plays on android.

For starters it looks and sounds as good or better than the original release so have no worries there. The controls are a bit stiff tho but truthfully they were always a bit stiff but sadly this feels even more noticeable on a cell phone. This isn’t a deal breaker by any means but honestly if you have access to it on one of the many collections that it is available on you really should go with one of those unless you really want it to play on the go. It is definitely playable, but it isn’t the best way to experience it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
