Elite Advice For A Dangerous Launch

ED Galexy

With the launch of Elite Dangerous tomorrow ( June 27th) I figured a lot of people may need some advice. So as I sit here sipping on some vodka and orange soda watching how I met your mother let me help you get started. Full disclosure, i have played the X box one version and will be playing the PS4 version.

First, big Rule number one, after you buy a new ship or upgrade your first ship called the Sidewinder, pay close attention to the ship rebuy cost. Rebuy is basically insurance. I’m pretty sure its equal to 5% of your ship total cost, which is a lot better than buying a new ship with upgrades. Last think you want to do is blow up a 20 million dollar ship by slamming into the mail slot of a station and having to restart from the beginning, and yes that has happened to people.

This next piece of advice sounds like common sense, but do the tutorial stuff before you start the game. The controls can be quite complicated and the game has one of the steepest learning curves  I have ever encountered in a game.

Don’y be ashamed to check YouTube or google for help with making money, exploring or whatever it is you choose to do. The below video i from one of the bigger names within the Elite Dangerous community and has tons of advice to give a well as various videos about the lore within the game. The video is long but you may not need the whole thing.

While we are on the subject of figuring stuff out, when you first get your Sidewinder is the perfect time to experiment. Play with the boost, shoot random ship try landing on a planet or whatever. Until you start upgrading it the rebuy cost is actually free, so no harm no foul.

While money is important, some would say the most important, aspect of the game i tend to side with the idea that you should play the game however you choose. Whether its exploring, mining, killing random stuff whatever  happens to tickle your fancy the money will come. Sure there are ways to make it come faster and its fine to do that as well. My personal plan i to kill  ton of stuff until i can get a proper exploration ship, but that doesn’t make it right, simply makes it right for me.

My final tidbit of advice for all you fresh new commanders is simple. Have fun, help people where you can, and don’t be afraid to try new things. I thought for sure trading would be for me, turns out I like combat and exploring. As always thanks for joining me and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Snes classic

SNES-Classic-Edtion-mockup-2.jpg

Nintendo has officially confirmed the Super Nintendo Classic is a thing to be launched this year and will include the never released Star Fox 2. More info can be found here.

Lets just hope this isn’t as limited as the NES classic, something many of my friends want but only I seem to have. The 30 games are nice and the system and all its parts work just as well as you would hope and i expect nothing less from the SNES Classic. As always thanks for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Open World Games

Open world games are pretty much always full of places to visit, things to do, people to meet and hey usually I try to kill them. But do they need an actual story? Normally I would say yes, but there are exceptions to the rule. Nobody would expect Sim City to have a story attached to it for example. These games are also usually filled with places to visit, many of which most players never take the time to find. I have easily over 200 hours into Skyrim and I know for a fact I haven’t seen most of the world. I can really say the same thing for any Bethesda game. But they have amazing stories with full fledged worlds to explore and a mission to accomplish. But could there be an open world game that just dropped you in and stopped caring what you did? I’m aware of a couple but the only one I ever played was Elite Dangerous and that is a pretty different breed all on its own. As always thanks for joining me and please comment a few games that may fit this, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Marvel Omega Heroes review

Marvel

Marvel Omega heroes is a free to play game where you take control of one of the many heroes  to play through a story i won’y ruin on you. The game play itself is quite similar to the Diablo games. Your hero will gain experience as you kill enemies traditionally found in comics like thug with a gun or any other cliche thing you want to name them since they don’t get names, just like in the comics. After  while of brutally beating up normal people with mutant powers that should probably blow up most of the city you get to fight the more mainstream people like the Green Goblin or the human laser whom i had never heard of. I point that out not to make a joke, but because they did a good job adding in characters both good and bad that most people have never heard of like Moon Knight or Nova that comic fans will recognize but never really get to see n games or movies. The graphics are nice and the sound is actually really well done to the point that if you stand around to long doing nothing your hero will let you know and many of them will actually speak to other heroes when you pass them in the street or at  a headquarters. Its a fun little game with plenty of heroes to play as and is absolutely worth a shot even if it were a full priced game and it fits  a niche that doesn’t exactly have a ton of options. As always thanks for joining me and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

4 K gaming

XB1X

First and foremost let me start by saying this, earlier this year u went from a low end 1080 set to a low-medium end 4K. But is the graphical upgrade worth it? Yes and no honestly. My first system i ever played on was an intelivision, a system most people seem to have never even heard of and for a time considered the original Nintendo entertainment system to be the epitome of graphical design. For me graphics while awesome are not exactly important. That being said even with games i played before tossed onto the ps4 saw a definite improvement, and when added to the ps4 pro there was an even greater improvement. That being said, i am also one of the few if not only people i know in person with a 4k t.v. so marketing a system as 4K to me seems like a rather large mistake. The PlayStation 4 pro is an amazing system that I definitely but only if you already have the 4k t.v. to go with it, otherwise it seems rather pointless and  have no doubt the new xbox will fall into that same category.  See for now 4K is largley a niche market that most people simply can not take advantage of so marketing a system specifically for that seems like a sure way to lower sales. That being said it wont be more than a few more years anyway until 4K becomes common, especially considering more than a couple companies already have an 8K t.v. in development. (and they are expensive as hell)  4k gaming is without a doubt the future and it is coming fast, but we are not quite there yet despite what many believe. Dark Souls 3 review

dark souls 3

Another game made by Fromsoftware and obviously the 3rd installment of the Dark Souls series, and for me came with mixed feelings having played Bloodborne first. the game starts off with the usual tutorial, a few marks on the ground telling you what button do what followed by some simple enemies ending in a boss that will kill pretty much anyone that isn’t a veteran of the series, and may even take out  few of those as well. the camera angles this time around which for me and i’m sure may other is a blessing. Also during my time playing I can’t recall having my sword pass through an enemy with no damage being done which was a huge issue i had playing Dark souls one and two on PS3. The story is as convoluted and interesting as you would expect from a Souls game. The graphics and sound are very well done and full of detail creating a harsh yet beautiful work to explore and let attempt kill you in various gruesome ways. Sadly many of the bosses seem unoriginal compared to the other titles and Bloodborne but that does not make them bad much to their credit. They are a nice mix of challenging but with the right strategy manageable. As always thanks for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

My Favorite Console

Super Nintendo

Now much of this of my opinion on this matter is largely because of nostalgia. Graphically there are better systems and better games and stories have become much more fleshed out . But my childhood thrived on the SNES, from The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past, to more than one final fantasy games. Even my first experience with Sim City came from this console. Some other things that I can never forget is the first time a friend tossed that blue turtle shell while i was unknowingly waiting to see myself go from 1st to near dead last, and of course my friend laughed at me being pissed.

I know this blog is short, but its not meant to be long, id much prefer you all leave a comment telling me what your favorite console it. Once again thanks for joining me, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

DragonSoul Review

dragon soul

Dragon Soul is one of the few free mobile games that while spending some cash will help you progress is not at all necessary. The basic idea is you and your ever growing group of heros (and i use that term lightly) kill monsters, fight other peoples parties and gather item to increase your party power level. Admittedly there is a story but after close to a year of playing it I still don’t know what it is. Something about about an evil sorcerer I think. The theme of today was mobile games and honestly there is not a lot to say in a mobile review, graphically they are all pretty similar and unimpressive and the controls are all the same. Mobile Games

Mobile

Years and years ago, back when mobile games started to evolve from simple games like snake I always believed they would eventually stop. Tho back when I thought this my phone was little more than small brick that could make calls and 20 minutes of effort resulted in a text message. Now i have written entire blog post complete with pictures.

As much as phones have evolved, as have the games. Gone are trying to avoid small dots with what amounts to a piece of string, and now we have full fledged Final Fantasy games and things like angry birds. As phones change so do the games and its interesting to see how the games go with it and it brings up new questions like how far will this go? We all ready went from  dots to PlayStation games, in another 10 years we may be playing PS4 and xbox one remakes in the palm of our hands or something even more bizarre and unthinkable.  As always thanks for joining me and my the gaming gods bring you glory.

Me and Injustice 2 so far… — Savior Gaming

For the past few months I’ve found myself riding a hardcore DC kick, reading dozens of there comics, trying to duck into the break room at work to catch the latest episode of Flash or Arrow, and drooling over the utter epicness of Conroy as Batman and Hamill’s Joker in Batman the Animated Series. As […]
