Dragonball Z: The Namek Saga

dbz 2  We continue on with the epic tale that is Dragonball Z. After saving the Earth, Vegeta has fled, Goku is wrecked, and with Piccolo and Kami dead there are no more Dragonballs. Mr Popo shows Bulma the ship Kami came in as a baby and she’s able to find the coordinates to Planet Namek, which has it’s own Dragonballs. Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan set off for Namek to restore Piccolo and there friends. Vegeta, pissed at his defeat, is stronger than ever after being beaten nearly to death because of Saiyan genetics and sets off to Namek as well. Despite Piccolo’s original bitter nature, Gohan and Krillin discover the Namekians are a peaceful people who are being slaughtered by Vegeta and a much darker force- Frieza. His army and right hand men Zarbon and Dedoria are searching for the balls as well so Frieza can achieve immortality. Before killing Dedoria Vegeta discovers the Saiyans weren’t destroyed by an asteroid as he was led to believe but Frieza himself, which boosts Vegeta’s blood lust. While a cat and mouse game ensues between Krillin and Gohan and Vegeta, Bulma tries to survive the alien world, and Goku trains with gravity as he races to help his friends on Namek. When the Dragonballs are in there grasp, the pair find themselves having to join forces in order to face Frieza’s squad of strange but powerful mercenaries- Enter the Ginyu Force…

Season 2 was a good blend of adventure and fights. I like how half of the story is Vegeta going on a murderous rampage and he does have most of the best fights in this season. The Ginyu Force is goofy but they are pretty cool. The pacing is a bit off and it it is slower than last saga but it’s worth the wait for what will come next. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Doctor Sleep trailer

This has made me wonder for a while how a squeal to The Shining was going to go. I’m happy to say this is in fact the sequel to Kubrick’s legendary film and I’m pretty excited. Dr Sleep follows the story of grown Danny Torrance dealing with a new threat and the old demons of his childhood. I’m glad to say it looks like the recent revival of awesome King based movies continues. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood E3 trailer

I was genuinely amazed how much I loved Wolfenstein: The new Order though I regret to say I haven’t gotten to catch up with the Old Blood or New Colossus. Young Blood looks like everything I loved about the first game with the awesome addition of Co-op, which means a blast for Savior and me. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Doom Eternal Trailer E3 2019

I can’t say I feel the hype for E3 this year as I have before, but I can tell you I’m pumped as hell for Doom: Eternal after seeing the story trailer. I love that beside slaying the armies of hell, we’ll also be clashing against the might of heaven as well which opens a lot of new doors for the series. Doom: Eternal is definitely going on my pre-order list. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Final Fantasy 8 Remaster

This one came out of left field for me. With the original source code known to be lost and years upon years of waiting and SE basically just saying sorry guys, not happening, to finally see it getting some love is pretty cool. The only thing more amazing to me than it happening is that it doesn’t have a definitive release date, simply sometime in 2019.

This tho does make sense, if the tale of much of the code being lost it would be much harder to simply port over and remaster than any of the other games in the series. Will it be a good remaster, I don’t know. The fact however that PC already has FF8 but the remaster is coming to PS4,Xbox, Switch, and Steam makes me think they are doing some decent work on the title. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Marvel Avengers Reveal Trailer

I am just going to piss everyone off today. Seriously, what the hell is this? It is a story based game with only five characters, but they will be adding more for free with no loot boxes, which is usually code for get ready to buy a ton of cosmetics. They reveal an entire game with no real game play, and they all pretty much look like Avenger stunt doubles from an unreleased generic 90’s cartoon. I’m not saying the game won’t be good, nobody can say that, because they didn’t really show the damn game.

It could be interesting, but this E3 just made me stop looking forward to it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Marvel Spider-man: City that Never Sleeps DLC

spidey dlc Marvel’s Spider-man (PS4) was one of my favorite games of the past few years both as a gamer and comic book fan. I finally got my hands on all three chapters of the City That Never Sleeps, which acts like a epilogue to the main story. New York is in the midst of a violent crime family war, seemingly being stirred by Spidey’s old flame Black Cat. If that wasn’t bad enough, Hammerhead is back and his gang has there hands on Silver Sable’s advanced tech

As far as DLC expansions go, there is decent amount of content here. There’s new bases, side missions with Screwball, and new collectibles as well as new suits available too. I’d say between the three chapters there is easily a good 6- 8 hours of story that is pretty well done and stands pretty well on it’s own; it’s not rushed or half -assed like many tend to do. My only issue is the full price tag : either $10 a chapter or $25 for the complete package is rather steep. I paid $20 for it all and that’s a fair price; I don’t recommend paying chapter by chapter unless hugely on sale like I did. Either way, it’s a good buy. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Avengers

gotg bk 1

A huge complaint I hear from many a nerd about comic books is the age old question: where to begin? With multiple story arcs, renditions, and multiverses it becomes pretty hard for new fans to pick up. I admit, I wasn’t a fan of the Guardians, let alone knew who the hell they were until I read this, a year before Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)came out in theaters. My world was rocked…

The book starts with a quick origin of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord and how his mother was assassinated by aliens that were hunting him down because of his absent, royal father J-son. Years later, Quill has grown to be a hero, scoundrel, and leader of the famous and infamous Guardians of the Galaxy. One day while trying to get in a alien babe’s pants, his father approaches him after years of fighting against him with a warning- stay away from Earth. J-son, along with a secret galactic coalition consisting of the All-mother of Asgard, the Brood, The Badoon, and the Gladiator who all deem the heroes and mutants of Earth have become a threat to the universe at large and have quarantined the planet. The Guardians jump in to piss off there old foe, but do there plans ever go as planned, even when helped by the one and only invincible Iron Man?

For newcomers to comics in general, I can definitely recommend this book. It’s a great introduction to Star-Lord, Gamora,  Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot as well as cool cameo by Iron Man. The characters are fun and there are some cool big scale fights. I like the contrast of Quills and J-son is a fair villain to start. It’s the first volume of a great run, part of which is Guardians of the Galaxy/ All New X Men: The Trial of Jean Grey  which is partially why I’m reviewing it now with Dark Phoenix in theaters but I do recommend it. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

3 From Hell teaser

While I wasn’t a huge fan of House of 1000 Corpses , I am a huge fan of The Devil’s Rejects but when news came of a 3rd I scratched my head. I love the end to Rejects and was surprisingly emotionally invested but why the same characters are back in a #rd is beyond me. The trailer doesn’t give much but it’s something and since it’s Zombie, it’s sure to be a disturbing foul mouthed gorefest. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dragonball Z: Tree of Might

dbz tree

Admittedly Tree of Might was my intro to the DBZ movies and it’s a fair place to start. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of Dragonball Z: The Dead Zone and Dragonball Z: The World’s Strongest , these were the early years of DBZ.

Much like the story of Dragonball Z ( The Saiyan Saga) , a band of aliens come to Earth, only this time pirates. Gohan and Krillin save a young dragon from a massive forest fire and they set off to find the Dragonballs to undo the fire. Meanwhile a band of space pirates sets down, led by Turles, who plans on destroying the world to grow the Tree of Might. The fruit from the tree grants incredible tree, but the tree itself feeds off of the world it’s planted on until it dies. The Z fighters face the pirates but are no match for Turles, who looks exactly like Goku. Can Goku beat his doppelganger and save the world?

Of the original 3 movies, I’d say Tree is the best. You get to see all the Z fighters in action which is pretty cool. The fight against Turles has some decently brutal moments and the story is pretty solid. If you are a fan of the series, I’d definitely check it out and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
