Yu Gi Oh: The Movie (2004)

As a kid, I was a huge Yu Gi Oh fan, even as an adult me and my friends played. Yes, my now ex-wife and I used to play. I saw every episode of the original cartoon, I had every variation of Blue Eyes White Dragon, including the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon from this movie. The irony tho, I had never seen this movie until this weekend. See by this point I hadn’t so much fallen but didn’t really had the chance then, and years later I had forgotten about it. So as I am flipping through Hulu I came across it so I tossed it on.

The first thing I have to say, is the reviews on Metacritic and such are terrible. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 5%. For me, this seems odd, but as I said I am a fan. For me, it was a huge flashback to a show I loved. It was almost like watching season one in an hour and a half, we got to see Kaiba duel Pegasus, but how it would play out if he had his newest deck and experiences. We learned more about what happened 5000 years ago in Egypt, and of course, we saw Yu Gi pull a win from the jaws of defeat in a seemingly impossible manner and this was honestly all I wanted.

Sure maybe it wasn’t the best written or visually, and how dated the formula was is apparent. That being said it was a fun nostalgia trip and honestly 14 years after the movie was released, that is all I truly wanted. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Smallville Season 2

Smallville Season 2. I have to be honest, these things seem so much longer than Supernatural. I am really enjoying it, but they seem longer. That being said season 2 starts off with Clark having saved Lana from the tornado from the end of season one and will dig much deeper into the love triangle with Lana, Clark, and Chloe.

The season also will see one of his friends, Pete discovers Clark’s secret tho it is more accurate to say he tells him in epic fashion, by running down his car and stopping it from driving. We will see the return of old enemies and the death of friends and even family. There is even some destruction seen on a scale most shows will never see.

This season actually takes on a much darker tone and the ending that I won’t spoil leaves you wondering how things could possibly turn themselves around. Friends are no longer friends, deals have been made and things that seem impossible have come to pass, we also learn that in Clarks world green means stop and red means go. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Jeff Who Lives At Home

Jeff Who Lives At Home is the movie of a loser that lives in mom’s basement having a pretty crap day after watching the movie Signs (2002) A bit of weed, a strange phone call for a guy named Kevin and his mom demanding he fix the piece of a door.

The movie mostly follows Jeff through his day as he takes a bus to get some glue but is interrupted to play some basketball, smoke more weed, gets mugged. He also helps his brother when he suspects his wife may be cheating on him. Turns out finding your destiny isn’t easy.

The movie is slow and not very action oriented and quite honestly is not for most people. I thought it was fun and interesting and I enjoyed it, but I don’t think there is much here for your average movie fan looking for some action. It relies heavily on the person watching wanting to sit and think about the bigger things in life as well as which honestly isn’t what most people want to do. I do suggest you watch it regardless tho. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Smallville Season One

In much the same way I did the Supernatural series I decided to check out Supernatural starting in season one. Now I saw the first couple seasons years ago years ago when it was on the air but honestly, the show started in 2002 so it wasn’t long into the show I joined the Army  and had my first kid, so I lost track of the show and many other things so after a point I will be seeing this show for the first time.

Season one starts as you would expect, introducing us to the characters, Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luther, Sam Jones III as his best friend Pete Ross Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang and the much less popular these days due to her very odd legal troubles, Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan. The stories are mostly self-contained, for example in one episode he is trying to solve how fires are popping up all around school only to discover they are controlled by a very angry football coach trying to protect his legacy and his soon to be a record-setting amount of games won.

The season does have a few over-arching stories tho, for example, the love triangle between Clark, Chloe and eventually Lana. Clark and Lana despite living close together won’t start out as friends, in fact, the meteor shower is what brings Clark and kryptonite to Earth, which killed Lana’s parents and she wears a piece around her neck. It will take a while before Clark figures out what makes him sick, and at least in season one it simply called meteor rocks, but we all know what it is. The first season tho is enjoyable, and I Having already started season two I feel like that will be even better. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

American Horror Story: Cult

ahs 7

In the USA over the past few years, politics have gone awry to be blunt. Something began rapidly changing how I saw the world and I knew it wasn’t good. The seventh American Horror Story dives into the horror of our political landscape and the people it creates. Instead of focusing on the supernatural, this deals with phobias and the conspiracies we believe in.

Ally and Ivy are a loving same sex couple with there son Oz, living a quiet successful until the 2016 Presidential Election where there world crashes. Ally has something of a breakdown, where her fears start coming forth: Bees, holes in her skin, and clowns to name a few. Things begin happening around the couple slowly as they take on troubled gray haired beauty Winter to look after Oz and Ally becomes paranoid of the outside world and the blue haired extremist rising through the local ranks of politics. Enter Kai Anderson. Kai has aspirations and goals to change the world, the influence he controls quickly escalates and suddenly Ally realizes he is everywhere…

This one is a tough call. I respect and like what they were going for plot-wise but sometimes there are parts so over the top I had to laugh but  I don’t think I was meant to.  I honestly hated the first episode and I wasn’t invested until 3 or 4 episodes in. Evan Peters outdoes himself as the maniacal Anderson. The last episode kills the season for me in a lot of ways, which sucks because Peters performance really drives the season and the connections to real life cults. I really like that it’s completely R rated because if this season was watered down, it’d be a total flop. In the end, I’d say it’s alright but far from the best of the series but worth streaming. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Netflix Cancels Luke Cage and Iron Fist

Recently it was announced that Netflix canceled both Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and many are worried that Jessica Jones may be next. (who knows by the time you read this it may already have happened) There are plenty of ideas as to why this may have happened, lack of interest maybe. I however feel it’s a different reason. See in late 2019 Disney will launch its own streaming service and in a world that already has two major services in Netflix and Hulu and many other smaller ones Disney will need a way to draw in customers.

There are a number of ways to this, for example they will obviously have plenty of their own Disney movies but they also own Star Wars and the Marvel. What better way to bring in customers to a fledgling streaming service than with the already established Marvel shows being revived or the entire MCU being available at launch?

I also would not be surprised to see them open the Disney vault and put their classic cartoon movies on there like Bambi and Aladdin. Disney is a power house and has a huge amount of resources to draw from and they will likely abuse that fact. For the time being losing your favorite show sucks, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they come back. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Pokemon Sun and Moon (The Series)

As a long time Pokemon fan I decided to check out Pokemon Sun and Moon. I have to admit at first the new art style kinda bummed me out. Ash looked weird and so did team rocket. The story is also a bit weird with Mr. Mime clearly cheating to win Ash and his mom tickets to the Alola region. Speaking of which I have some serious questions about the relationship between Ash’s mom and Mr. Mime.

All that aside the basic story isn’t bad. Ash attends a school for kids because we all know ash has been 12 for 20 years now. The issue is after 43 episodes he spent most of his time at the school. On occasion they would leave to check out a different island and he does get through a couple of the challenges. But the entire series is mostly just watching him go to school. The true greatness comes in episode 42 and 43 is when they return to the Kanto reason for those episodes.

This also brings the return of Misty and Brock to meet the new crew and hang out with Ash, where you will also see Ash and Misty battle with Misty having a Mega Evolution now. The series isn’t bad, it is just quite a bit different. Tho to me it did feel like the worst in the series. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Supernatural Season 13

download

Supernatural Season 13 deals with the son of Lucifer, Jack. Sam and Dean will travel across dimensions to save Jack and their mother Mary from a dimension where Sam and Dean were never born and the apocalypse was never stopped. The race itself is rather interesting since Lucifer wants to save his son simply because he is the most powerful entity in the universe besides God and his Sister. In fact Jack can even create new angels, which is why Heaven wants him so badly.

The issue is while in the apocalypse world their archangel Michael decides he wants to come to our world and take over since his world is kind of a hell hole. See their Michael is a lot like our Lucifer in the sense that he just wants to rule everything and doesn’t much care who gets hurt in the process. Season 13 is great but it does have its high and low moments. The end of it however is worth the entire trip. Obviously I won’t spoil it for you, but we get to see a few things come full circle from far earlier seasons that most people probably didn’t really expect. I am very much looking forward to season 14, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Gotham season 5 trailer

Despite how much I love Batman I would love Gotham but I’ve never really liked much of what I’ve seen from it. I was impressed at the amount of villain cameos I saw like Firefly, Scarecrow, Riddler, Mr Freeze, and Mad Hatter to name a few. I’m not a fan of the idea of Bruce Wayne being really young. The final season looks pretty good and for the fans I hope its a good send off. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
