Spider Noir (sn1)

To get pumped for Spiderman: Brand New Day I jumped back into m love for all things Spidey. Nick Cage as Spiderman Noir was one of my favorite little parts of Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse so I really excited he was reprising his role in live action for a full series. Noir has always been one of my favorite variants of the wall crawler. So how did Amazon do?

Ben Reilly is a typical private eye living in 1930’s New York- well almost. During WW1 he was bitten by a POW subjected to German genetic experimentation, granting him spider powers. Living a double life as the Spider, fighting crime, married to the love of his life, Ruby, Ben had the perfect life until tragedy struck. Depressed, broken, Ben exists now with the help of his close friends until new super powered foes emerge working with the diabolical crime lord Silvermane. Can the Spider bring himself to come out of retirement, stop the bad guys, and get the girl one last time?

First and foremost, I adored the attention to detail. This show nails the golden age detective noir vibe. I absolutely recommend watching it in black and white for full effect. The cast is terrific. Cage delivers a great performance as a unhinged, wallowing, good hearted guy looking for redemption. Brendan Gleeson was charismatic and threatening as Silvermane, easily my favorite incarnation of the crime lord by far. Li Jun Li was a great classic Fem Fatal as Cat Hardy. I appreciated the show wasn’t overly action heavy, opting for a story, driven crime narrative with flushed out characters. As someone that finds it hard getting into TV shows, I was glued to this one and I honestly can’t recommend it enough, both for new commers and Marvel fans. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Carrie 2026 teaser

So I love the monologue. Like it is perfect Carrie. I feel like everything looks too modern which I think might subtract from it. Savior, wise man he is made a valid point- it isn’t made for us. It’s for our kids generation. Taking that into account, I warmed up to it a lot more. Carrie is one ofmy favorite King stories so I’m excited to see what we get this time around. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman (sn1)

Leading up to the latest Spiderman movie, I needed to join the hype train again. Friendly Neighborhood takes place in a universe adjacent to the MCU, referencing many key events like the Battle of New York, The Sokovia Accords, and the battle of the airport. The key difference is Peter Parker isn’t mentored by Tony Stark but Norman Osborn as he learns what it means to be a hero.

In the year since it debuted, I’ve heard so many mixed reactions and reviews to this series so I tried extra hard to go in neutral. Overall I had a damn good time. The voice cast does a damn good job, especially Coleman Domingo as Norman Osborn, balancing the warmth of a fatherly mentor, cold hearted business tycoon, while foreshadowing the villain he’ll become. I also love the series’s take on Lonnie Lincoln’s turn to Tombstone. Scorpion was a complete psychotic badass and one of my favorite interpretations. Peter’s overall story is really well done.

One of the best flaws I saw was it’s pseudo ties to the MCU. Most of the characters look and sound like their MCU counterparts while dropping easter eggs left and right but it doesn’t sync. Peter doesn’t participate in Civil War but the outcome is still the same. There is time travel and dimension play in the beginning and end circa Dr. Strange. I’m mixed on the origin reveal for the season finale, but it leads into my biggest problem with the first season overall. There’s a lot of giant plot threads left hanging, major ones that lead to major story arcs that could take multiple seasons to fill if done right. That got me peeved admittedly.

I hate to have to include this section, but its sadly the world we live in. I’ve heard so many reviews bash this show because of the diversity on display. It’s super apparent but feels natural. I come across different people each and every day and seeing all kinds of folks made the show feel more real, because Spiderman is there for everyone. Thats how it should be. So if it bothers you, maybe you need to learn what Spiderman was about in the first place.

In the end, I had a blast with this show and I can’t wait for more in season 2. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Lanterns trailer 2

So likely due to the backlash over the first trailer for the latest DC show, it was pulled off much of the internet. So now we have round 2 and I think it looks much more promising. There’s a few scenes of Hal Jordan looking pretty badass. The sci fi elements came through a lot more and it’s at least starting to look like a Green Lantern property. I’m not super sold on the suit still, I think it’s still too brown and unappealing for my liking. I can’t say I’m super hyped for this show, but I’m starting to see some promise which is a big step forward. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
