Airborne Kingdom (Xbox Series S Review)

As always, huge shout out to my new friends over at The Wandering Band and Freedom Games for hooking me up with a review code for this game. It is always a pleasure to check out a new game and the one was no exception.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to build a flying kingdom? This game will let you find out, and before we go any further I highly suggest you try building everything on one side of your kingdom to see what happens when you tilt it all to one side. I’m not saying anything does or doesn’t happen, Just give it a go. Maybe don’t do it during a serious attempt tho.

With that out of the way, the game tells the story of you trying to bring back a floating kingdom by rediscovering and making alliances with all the other Kingdoms, twelve in total.

The game is beautiful, as you watch the sun rise and set on your floating city.

You can see the love poured into this game from every angle. The resource management is also quite well done, at no point did I feel like the game was unfair but I came dangerously close more than once of running out of the things I needed to stay afloat.

The sound is another place where this game is great, but it isn’t where it shines. Where it truly shines is where all city builders are made or broken.

Is the game addictive? And the answer is absolutely. I was constantly redesigning things to make sure I had enough lift and propulsion to keep the place afloat or people in work. And I love making sure I had enough resources to make sure I could make it to my next area of exploration since not every biome would have the same resources in the same quantities.

This game is honestly absolutely amazing, and while it isn’t exactly challenging it doesn’t truly need to be, it is just a lot of fun. Definitely recommended for fans of the genre. Solid 8/10. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Panorama Cotton PS4 Review

As always with these things, a huge shout out to the people at ININ games for tossing me a copy of this one. It is always appreciated.

Panorama Cotton is essentially an emulation of the original Sega Master system version we never got in the west. It also happens to be the only one that isn’t a side scrolling shooter. This has more of the Space Harrier front view.

Graphically the game has some nice graphics and sound that aged pretty well and it does come with some nice bells and whistles such as some cheat codes and such.

This was honestly one of those games that I had never heard of and didn’t really have high hopes for but since it came from ININ games I wanted to give it a chance. The game will satisfy that need for nostalgia without breaking the bank, something ININ games does amazing at. A solid 7/10. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Stranger Things, season 4 trailer

I’ve never been one for the Stranger Things craze, but this season looks alright from the trailer. A group of kids and a haunted house- what’s more American horror than that? The atmosphere looks nice and I know a lot of people that have been waiting for this, so I hope its worth the wait. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Doom Patrol season 3 final trailer

I’m seriously excited for Doom Patrol’s return. I admire this show for being unapologetically weird and thankfully the trend seems to be continuing. After finishing with Titans ( reviews coming soon) I can’t wait to jump in. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer 2

I loved Pokémon as a kid but I’ve fallen out touch of them; I love how the old formula has involved. I love the idea of a huge open world game on the same scope as Breath of the Wild and Elder Scrolls…for the first time in a really long time I actually have real interest in the series and I hope for the best. Keniichi is a pretty normal teen who moves to the quiet village of Hinamizawa, becoming friends with a small group of bubbly girls Rena, Rika, Mion and Satoko. They forge a fast, close friendship in the quiet town, but every town has secrets and legends- Hinamizawa is no exception. Keniichi attends a local festival paying respecting an ancient god, a god of obedience and blood. Its not long after that the curse of the town kicks off and bodies start mounting and every question Keniichi asks is met with malevolent glares and his friends start acting strange. Secrets can destroy you, Keniichi will soon discover.

I seriously ate this damn show up; not since Another and Corpse Party: Tortured Souls had I been so wound up in a anime. The characters have some pretty messed up backstories that caught me off guard and the overall story has plenty of twists of turns I really wasn’t expecting. The story deals with a series of scenarios gone horribly wrong and how the friends you hold dearest, you don’t know at all. I’m going to say, if bodily torture and child death get under your skin, this anime isn’t for you. This anime would easily be in my top three, but this series has a glaring flaw I both love and hate about it- this series is NOT linear and it’s really confusing if you aren’t open minded and willing to see it through to the end and pay close attention, and even then you might have to watch it a second or third time before it makes perfect sense. In the end, I loved this series, flaw in all, and I highly recommend it for multiple viewings. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

IT (the novel)

Are you ready to float with me on one of those strange kind of reviews where I go off the beaten path a bit? Yep, IT, the King classic about seven childhood friends haunted by a interdimensional spider clown who vow to meet when the creature would inevitably would return in their hometown of Derry, Maine. So between Savior and I we covered It (1990) , It (2017) , and IT Chapter Two (Review) but neither of us covered the book until now. All seriousness, IT is a 1,163 page novel so it takes a bit of time to get through and you shouldn’t read this unless you are really in it for the long haul.

My biggest question going in was which iteration was the closest: the quirky melodrama of the 90’s, the super dark fright fest of 2017, or the WTF extravaganza of Chapter Two? Well, honestly all 3 but mostly the 90’s and Chapter Two are the closest in tone. I imagined Pennywise being way more Tim Curry than Bill Skarsgard; your personal fear of clowns weighs heavy on how much this book will freak you out. There’s a lot of different shapes Pennywise takes in the book than the movies but for the most part, they are B movie monsters ( he basically becomes mini Rhodan at one point as well as a mummy, werewolf, and a fucking dog at one point). Honestly, if I had to sum the book up, it’s a B movie epic combined with a drama.

For positives, the book is well written and you really do care about the characters. The first chunk of this book, about 300 pages, is actually pretty strong and Georgie’s Death is a well done intro. The book is strongest as a coming of age story and when it’s dealing with the trauma the adults must face going forward. As a horror story, this book is pretty damn subjective, even more so than most as I said before. Either you’ll shit your pants from fear or piss your pants laughing.

For the negatives, there’s 3 that royally kill the book. First, as I’m sure you’d surmise by the page count, this book is padded to hell. Easily there’s 300 pages that can be chopped out and not really make any difference.. Secondly, the last act, flipping constantly back and forth is jarring as hell; quite a few times I lost track of what was past and present. The last is the actual finale which just feels both anticlimactic but also insanely over the top at the same time. With this, I’m kinda obligated to mention the infamous Chud ritual towards the end of the kid half; it is pretty WTF, its as bad as you’ve heard, and I feel like King was on some pretty deep drugs during the Chud/ turtle moments- you’ve been warned.

So, I’m going to say IT isn’t a terrible book but holy shit its overrated much like The Shining . I’m disappointed but I can’t say its far from the worst books I’ve read. I can’t recommend reading it unless you are a very dedicated reader, super fan of the movies, or like myself, a writer studying the craft; for most of us, stick to the movies. Doom Patrol season 3 trailer

I’ve caught a few episodes of Doom Patrol but honestly, this show is amazing. With season 3 coming out, I want to catch up and season 3 looks great so far. I can’t wait to see what’s next for The Chief, Robot Man, Elastic Woman, Crazy Jane, Cyborg and Negative Man. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Chapelwaite series trailer

I was confused at first when I heard of this show, seeing it was based on a Stephen King story; I wasn’t familiar until I saw it was based on the short story Jerusalem’s Lot. Yes Salem’s Lot is the same place but much different time period and there is no vampires as much as I remember. The show looks interesting enough at least. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
