Justice League, Snyder’s Cut (Savior)

As many of you know, I had a few problems with the theatrical release of this one. I truthfully went into this thinking this would be four hours of more of the same.

Honestly  there were some things absolutely loved, for example Cyborg having a much bigger and more important role really made me smile. The same can be said for Flash. Steppinwolf also looked far better. That is pretty much where my praise will end for this new version.

The new story elements really served new purpose and had a lot of plot holes, for example how did he forget something was on a planet he had literally been too? Also, why why did he bother fighting an army in the past if he could have landed literally anywhere else on Earth to succeed in what he was doing?

A lot of my issues with the original movie not only still exist, they are now worse. The pacing of the movie that was already bad now stretches out for four hours. Worse, they changed scenes entirely and dragged them out to reach that length. If you want to make a four hour movies that shouldn’t be needed.

Don’t get me wrong the movie was fun, but so was the original. This really was more of the same and unnecessary. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Star Renegade is a rouge-lite strategy RPG where you are tossed into the middle of a war interplanetary war against The Imperium, a force that wants to rule the galaxy. The follow comes straight from the press release itself.

The game comes with a fast-paced, tactical, turn-based, timeline battle system that offers a variety of options and strategies to bring the opponents to their knees! The more the game progresses, the stronger the squad becomes. Players can unlock, trade and upgrade the rebels with tons of weapons, loot, and gear. But defeating the enemies will not be a piece of cake! Strategy and experimentation are required to beat the opponents and save the universe!
These moments of success will reward the player, as well as the beautiful look of the game.
Star Renegades features a pretty pixel style, the journey through the planets and the varied, challenging battles are accompanied by superior sound design and an awesome synth-wave composition.

  • Fast-paced tactical turn-based timeline battle system
  • Hauntingly beautiful landscapes and ruins
  • Pretty pixel art style
  • Procedurally generated dungeons
  • Unique enemies and bosses
  • Epic synth-wave compositions and excellent sound design

As you can see the game itself seems to have a lot of things to go through and replay value as the procedurally generated dungeons can usually make for a reason to dive back in for multiple play throughs. As a fan of rogue-lite and RPGs I am actually curious to see how this one turns out. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mortal Kombat 2021

What is there to say about this new Mortal Kombat? We all went into this expecting the same thing right? Some beautiful effects, awesome fight scenes and at best some decent story, but did we get that?

Well for starters, the effects were in fact beautiful. The ice coming off Sub-Zero’s hands in the very start of the movie were magnificent and seeing the blood splatters through out the movie, it almost looked like people really getting busted open.

The right scenes were also great, the it was almost like watching a dance at a time but none of it seemed overdone. There was a nice mix of flashy moves and brutal combat.

The story however falls flat, and honestly that’s no surprise. Really it was just a reason to get people fighting. The whole thing really takes place prior to the 10th win in a row for Outworld and of course Shang Tsung would like nothing more than to cheat his way to victory. He sends his assassin’s to kill Earth’s heroes Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Jax just to name a few.

This brings me to the new original character Cole Young. Truthfully I hate this character. He is totally unlikable and his entire story is straight out of some 80’s acting movie cliche. Don’t get me wrong,Lewis Tan does an amazing job with what he is given. The character itself is just bad.

All in all tho I enjoyed the movie, just watch it for what it is. An action movie where you are meant to enjoy the fighting and the story is just a means to get to those fights. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Justice League Snyder Cut

Prime Video: Zack Snyder's Justice League

So it’s no secret I hated the hell out of Justice League (2017) and in all honestly, I wasn’t sure how I really felt when the Snyder Cut was announced. Four hour runtime, added characters and storylines, I just assumed it was going to be a crap ton of fluff. I’m going to tell you right now, while far from perfect, I thoroughly enjoyed the Snyder Cut vs hating the hell out of Wheddon’s version.

I’m happy to say the movie is broken into 6 chapters with a 7th as a epilogue so it’s pretty easy to break apart and watch it more like a mini series. For such a long movie, I found the pacing pretty fair, never really feeling overbearing. The effects are radically improved; Cyborg, Steppenwolf, Atlantis, and the Speed Force scenes look way better. I love the addition of Darkseid, Martian Manhunter and the cameo by Joker ( Leto redeems himself in this cameo). My favorite part of the Snyder cut is the characterization which was a huge problem before; Cyborg, Flash, and Steppenwolf are huge improvements and Batman is kept serious and is no longer a chump.

While a lot of things are improved, there are some mixed and damn right annoying things. The opening flat out made me laugh my ass off. Zach Snyder still has a really irritating habit of going effects heavy and drawing slow motion scenes on for too long. The lighting could be better but looks better than the red toned end of the previous ending. Sometimes the music is overly dramatic; I will say the battle music is badass as hell. While better flushed out, I still feel like too much is going on and I feel like the general audience will get confused at points.

In the end, I really liked the Snyder Cut of Justice League vs the botched theatrical cut and I think it’s well worth checking out. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

JoJo Rabbit

Jojo Rabbit (2019) - IMDb

I never thought a movie like this would hit the mainstream but it did. Every trailer promised a whacky, feel good comedy where a cute little Nazi youth befriends a goofy imaginary Adolf Hitler. I’m proud to say I finally got to see this movie and I applaud Taika Waititi and the whole crew for making this, not just because it was a great movie, but because it took a lot of balls to make it.

JoJo is about to experience the greatest day of his young life when he joins a camp for the Hitler Youth, encouraged by his best, imaginary friend, Hitler himself. After several humiliations and a grenade throwing incident gone wrong, JoJo is left heartbroken and scarred when he’s demoted from the Hitler Youth. If that wasn’t enough, he discovers his mother’s secret, embedding a young Jewish girl in there walls. It’s up to young JoJo to decide right from wrong as he questions his hero and his heart and discover who he really is…

Watching the trailers, this is everything you expected and a lot more. The cast is fantastic and I have to give Roman Griffin Davis huge props as JoJo; I can’t wait to see what he does in the future. This movie balances absurd comedy, coming of age story, and some really dark things extremely well. The soundtrack and cinematography are outstanding. I give bonus credit may I add for my favorite PG-13 F bomb ever ( if you saw the end, you know what I mean). In the end, I absolutely recommend JoJo Rabbit as something funny, beautiful, and unique which is the highest compliment I can give. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings trailer

So besides Eternals and the host of sequels in the MCU for phase 4, Shang Chi is a interesting addition I admit I don’t know much about. I know the movie will feature the true Mandarin, set up from Iron Man 3 as well as being hinted at in the subtitle. The movie looks pretty interesting and the fight scenes look pretty cool. I’m curious to see what’s to come. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness trailer 2

While I’m really hyped about this as much as many I’m sure are, I’m curious what a animated Resident Evil series would be like. The animation is nice and I’m glad to see Leon and Claire reunited once again. What interests me is where this series falls into the timeline. I definitely want to check it out but I’m cautious at the same time. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Harley Quinn: The Animated series

Watch Harley Quinn: Season 1 | Prime Video

Since debuting in Batman: the animated series as Joker’s sidekick and sweetheart, Harley Quinn has become a surprise DC icon, even stealing the show in Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn . Its no wonder DC has tried to make Harley into there Deadpool and it was no surprise she got a series of her own, following her adventures free from her abusive relationship with Joker. Along with her Bff Ivy and teaming up with Clayface, Dr. Psycho, King Shark, and Ivy’s landlord, Saul, they are out to dominant the criminal underworld and have fun doing it.

Admittedly, I didn’t like the first few episodes but I quickly got warmed up to and loved the show. I love the personalities of the characters, especially Clayface, Psycho, Bane, and Shark. Oddly, Harley’s breaking away form Joker was my least favorite part of the series so far. I like the love triangle Ivy finds herself in between Harley and Kite-man and found that story more compelling. If you love DC, there are plenty of cameos ranging from the JLA to Darkseid himself. Having the show being MA means there is plenty of bloody fights, crude language, and frankly everything this series needed. It’s definitely worth checking out and I can’t wait for season 3.

The Human Tornado

The Human Tornado (1976) - IMDb

I know in all my years blogging, I’ve talked about some some strange ass movies, books, games, and comics. I live for this strange stuff, pieces of art that undeniably stand out…so I’m pretty sure I can’t show the trailer here but believe you me, it stands out.

The Human Tornado follows Dolomite and his group of friends on the run. His crime? He slept with a bigot sheriff’s wife that is willing to do just about anything for revenge, including framing Dolomite for killing his wife. When while Dolomite has to lay all of those in his wake while helping some friends out with there own mess, but it’s just another day for the Human Tornado.

There’s so much I want to say but I don’t think I can. This is one of the few movies that NEEDS to be experienced, rather than told about. I can tell you the plot is disjointed, the fight scenes are really corny, and this movie is super politically incorrect- seriously, something like this would never get made today. But holy crap I loved this movie. Rudy Ray Moore is badass and hilarious. I love how unapologetic the movie is about nudity and language and simply how quotable it is. In the end, this movie sure as hell ain’t for everyone, but if you love WTF movies, this is for you. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus - Wikipedia

Along time ago I wanted to do a massive phase 2 session of Bethesda reviews, this game being at the forefront ( Prey, Dishonored 2, Fallout 76, etc.) Well, things don’t always work out that way we want them too and here I am, reviewing a game I bought near launch, forgot I had, and remembered years later when I’m about to move (yes, seriously.) But the question I ask is was it worth the neglect?

So B.J Blaskowitz, “Terror Billy” to some, has essentially wounded the Nazi regime but they are far from ended. Especially when a disfigured and vengeful Frau Engel is hunting down a gravely wounded Terror Billy as he fights to regroup with his old friends. The goal is simple, to start a revolution in the US, but can Terror Billy and his friends face the might and hatred of the New Colossus?

Wolfenstein: The new Order surprised the hell out of me with it’s loadout of various play style options and challenging enemies. While the challenge remains the same, I do have to say as much as I liked this game it did a damn good job at pissing me off. This game puts you in a lot of situations where stealth would be appreciated but the abilities you gain aren’t no where as helpful as going all out and I feel like you get pushed into all out moshes when simple stealth would have saved a headache; you die very easy in this game. I feel like the tactical shitstorm gameplay here was a prototype to what we would get in Doom: Eternal which indeed did it better. Despite the negative of that, the game has a good story and isn’t afraid to embrace it’s batshit grindhouse side which is cool. I love Frau Engel as a sick villain that’s great to hate. I love the use and freedom of dual wielding weapons. In the end, Wolfenstein 2 isn’t as good as the first but it’s still a pretty solid game worth checking out. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
