Predator

Predator_Movie

There was no time for action and sci-fi movies in the 80’s whether it was AliensRobocop , or Terminator the scene was at it’s peak. You can argue which is the best and for me its a close ass tie between Aliens and the original Predator.

Dutch Schaffer is the head of a crew of a special ops rescue team getting reassembled and sent into the jungles of Central America on a mission. Bullets and badassery are on the agenda and delivered as they guerrilla soldiers they came to wipe out have gotten seemingly violent as Dutch and his team find a couple of skinned bodies hanging from trees. The hostages talk of a demon in the trees. Everything seems said and done but members of Dutch’s team are getting picked off one by one by an unseen assailant with some badass tech. Can Dutch and his team survive the mission and face something inhuman?

Predator is a fantastic movie and should be seen by all- yes that’s a short review. You have memorable characters, score, kills, and plenty of badass quotes. The Predator is a Sci-fi action icon and is a great monster. The final battle between Dutch and Predator is one of my all time favorites and the Predator’s dying laugh is truly haunting. The action scenes are powerful and there is plenty of suspense once the Predator enters the scene. In the end, this is an outstanding 80’s action movie I can’t recommend more. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

P.S: R.I.P Little Richard, who’s voice inspired countless artist and set the scene for this badass movie. You will be missed.

I, Robot

I robot

I’ll be the first to say I don’t trust machines: Terminator, Ultron, the Working Joes, the Geth, etc. We give machines an obscene amount of control over our lives, and with there capabilities growing and growing, it’s a matter of time before we are castaway like we do the outdated technology we accrue. So, enough of the philosophical and let’s talk about a Will Smith movie.

Del Spooner is a detective in future Chicago where robots live among us, serving and protecting us but never harming us due to the 3 laws governing over them. Spooner doesn’t buy it and hates them. When one of the premiere scientists of U.S Robotics is found dead, Spooner is on the case. The evidence points to a new kind of robot, one with emotions and humanity to it, uninhibited by the 3 rules. Sonny, this special machine, is the culprit but Spooner begins finding a deeper plot as the machines start turning, but no one believes him…

I found myself thinking it was going to be a fluffy action movie but I was genuinely surprised how many questions it asks and how much I got involved in it. The cast is really good but Alan Tudyk steals the show as Sonny, giving a memorable performance as a machine discovering humanity. There is a good mix of high concept sci-fi and action with good effects that have aged but not poorly as to significantly hurt the movie. What I was surprised about were the badass fights and the couple of times I felt the feels hardcore. The pacing of the movie is pretty quick so it’s a easy watch. In the end, I, Robot is a fun watch that is pretty deep and heartfelt that I highly recommend. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Darius Cozmic Collections Coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch June 16th

The Darius series pioneered horizontal Shoot ‘Em Up games and was developed by the legendary TAITO Corporation. The first Darius game wowed arcade going fans when it was

released in 1986 with its dedicated dual-display cabinet, imaginative enemy designs and revolutionary sound design.

The first Darius is set in a futuristic 2D world, where the player pilots a Silver Hawk craft alone, or with a second player, and shoots their way through enemy hordes, navigating tricky terrain and battling giant robotic sea creatures.  Armed with missiles, bombs and a forcefield, which can be powered up along the way, the players must defeat the alien invaders through a series of branching ‘zones’ to be victorious.

Numerous sequels and ports followed over the years, setting new standards for Shoot ‘Em Up excellence each time, from the outstanding soundtracks,  to the unforgettable, aquatic-lifeform-themed boss design and the innovative branching paths at the end of each section

The Darius Cozmic Collection represents the classic 2D history of this iconic Shoot ‘Em Up series. All games have been faithfully ported to modern consoles by M2 in Japan, so gamers can rest assured that these are absolutely high-quality ports with perfect performance – as one would expect from the retro game experts at M2.

Far Cry 4

far cry 4

So Far Cry 3 was a tremendous breath of fresh air for me as a gamer so when the next installment was around the corner, you bet your ass I had my seat reserved on the hype train. Sadly I had to settle for the PS3 version and not the PS4 version, so keep that in mind here as we see what adventure is in store for us.

Ajay ventures to the Himalayan region of Kyrat to scatter his mother’s wish, her final wish to have her ashes scattered at her homeland. Ajay knows she fled the country and went to America but doesn’t know about the bloody civil war developing. He’s captured by a lunatic named Pagan Minh. After escaping the upcoming dictator’s hold, Ajay finds himself thrust into the resistance, which is facing a split itself. Can Ajay survive the madness of a country divided?

Far Cry 4 is a strange case. The gameplay is solid and doesn’t change too much from 3 but the new changes like being able to lure animals into enemies and being able to tame elephants is pretty damn awesome. It’s not everyday when you raid a camp on a elephant’s back, going postal with a grenade launcher. The story, while good, is way shorter than 3 and in many ways feels repackaged. In fact, much of this game feels repackaged. Pagan is a fun villain and honestly I liked him more than any of the good guys. What the game does have is a lot of different endings with a lot of different outcomes so you can get multiple playthroughs. The locale is beautiful. There are a host of badass animals to hunt and fight off; don’t screw with honey badgers yahl. There is co-op this time around as part of the game, rather than its own separate thing. In the end, it’s a damn fun game you can finish quick but can get a few good playthroughs of I’d recommend. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Jump King Out Now for PS4, XB1 and Nintendo Switch

Every point of progress is saved along the way… but so is every setback. Jumps that cause minor grievances one time may become the bane of your existence upon encountering them again. Experimenting with different routes or tactics is recommended as there are many paths to success in Jump King. All this is wrapped up in a nostalgic pixel art aesthetic, full of colorful characters and evocative locales.

Make no mistake, Jump King is an extraordinarily difficult game that will be relished by anyone looking for a tough but fair challenge. It’s sadistic enough to drive a seasoned gamer to tears, yet accessible enough due to its simple controls and mechanics for anyone to overcome its challenges – perseverance is key! Do you have what it takes to be the one true Jump King?

“Dear console gamers, you are not prepared for this emotional journey! Your soul will be put to the ultimate test in our platforming game where all you do is jump…. sounds simple, right?” said Erik Säll of Nexile. “Let’s just say it is not as easy as you might think. Much due to it being such a personal challenge; there is nearly no randomness in the game so it all comes down to your skill! Every mistake and success is your own. With perseverance and a bit of luck we believe anyone can beat Jump King though! We recommend every console gamer to take up this challenge, and now you can even do it from the comfort of your own sofa!”

Now I copy and pasted that from the email they sent me, but I will translate. This game is about jumping, a lot. And it will probably piss a lot of us off. But there is supposed to be a really REALLY hot chick at the top. I am hoping to give this one a try because I feel like the chick at the top is ugly as hell, but there is only one way to find out. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Spongebob Squarepants movie

spongebob movie Are ya ready kids?

Ok, I won’t burst into song. Many are likely wondering, ‘Torsten, why are you talking Spongebob after a string of violent comics and video games’? Well, the answer is simple dear reader: I’M A GOOFY GOOBER!

Spongebob Squarepants is just a happy go lucky fry cook down under the sea in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom.he loves his job at the Krusty Krab, loves his friends, and loves jelly fishing. The Krusty Krab is about to open a second restaurant, spelling certain doom for Plankton and the Chum Bucket; after hundreds of failed ploys to take down Mr Crabs and the Krusty Crew, he has finally  come up with the perfect diabolical plan. He swipes King Neptune’s crown which hides his baldness, and Neptune freezes Crabs out of anger. It’s up to Spongebob and his best friend Patrick to find the crown and bring order to Bikini Bottom before Plankton takes hold…

Kids movie or not, I laughed my ass off with this movie. I always had a soft spot in my heart for the lovable yellow bastard. If you love the show, the movie won’t disappoint. I love how batshit the movie gets like Spongebob getting wasted on ice cream or him and Patrick riding on top of the Hoff’s ass; it’s easy for adults with a WTF sense of humor to enjoy but its still a clean movie for the kids. It’s a colorful movie and a pretty good soundtrack including a badass Twisted Sister cover at the end. In the end, this is one of those rare times a movie can be enjoyed by young and old and its worth checking out. May the gaming gods bring you Krabby  Patties.

Resistance: Fall of Man

Resistance_Fall_of_Man

What if the horrors of WWII wasn’t a product of man but what lead to man’s downfall? Enter the Chimera, grotesque aliens that came to Earth in the early 1900’s and by the time WWII would’ve been ending, the Chimera are well on there way to domination. Can Sgt. Nathan Hale survive the war against these monstrous aliens and there impressive technology?

This was one of the PlayStation 3’s first games and in some ways it shows like the gimmick of having to shake the controller when a Chimera grabs you or the graphics that aren’t too distant from PS2 but it’s a damn solid debut. The story is a good looking apocalyptic war story that does has a nice, grim tone and feels surprisingly grounded. The Chimera are pretty creepy and fairly intelligent so they feel like a threat; while the human weapons are solid, the alien weapons are badass and a blast to use. Hale is a bland, generic protagonist but he’s serviceable. A mild issue I have is the environments are dull to look at and thankfully, the sequel has a bit more color. In the end, it’s a solid game that is worth playing if you want a solid FPS that you don’t have to  heavily invest in. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
