Won’t You Be My Neighbor? (2018) — Dan the Man’s Movie Reviews

Just be nice to one another, dammit! Fred Rogers, to many people of a certain age, was an iconic figure for children’s television. He wrote, directed, produced, and starred in a little show called “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood”, in which he used sock-puppets, songs, dancing, and above all else, human-interaction, to teach children about such beautiful […]

Haunted

haunted

A couple of years ago, I had no idea Fight Club was originally a book. After loving the book, I was kind of surprised learning writer, Chuck Palahniuk had written a really acclaimed horror story. Curiosity got the better of me and I had to check out Haunted. Haunted is a strange book to talk about, but I can say I haven’t read many like it if any. The core premise is simple: a group of weirdos is drawn to a three month long writer’s retreat by a rich old guy named Whittier and they are told to bring what matters most to them. They are brought to a secluded place, locked away with a limited supply of food and no kind of contact with the outside world. What ensues is a catalog of desperation becoming madness as they run out of food, become deprived of sleep, water and utter sanity as they create their own stories that gives us a window into the lives of our “victims”. These stories are, excuse my language, are fascinating as they are fucked up. There is a story of a dude who lost part of his small intestine in a pool filter, a professional foot fetishist, a woman who named her cat after her dead cat, and a dude who told some real nasty lies about a former child star to name a few. I warn you, do not read this book if you have weak constitutions or get freaked out easy, don’t read this book.

While I didn’t love every single short story or every free form poem, this maybe one of the best books I’ve ever read. By the end, I legitimately felt different then when I started and that maybe the best compliment I can give. The overall story is disturbing but relate-able as are many of the short stories. Palahniuk’s writing style is a lot easier to get into this time around then Fight Club; in fact I was pretty engulfed by how well everything flowed. Haunted is a great read I highly recommend if you want to read something really different but really deep. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

It’s a Disaster (2013)

This is an interesting movie, basically a couples brunch gets pretty weird. One is a new couple, he a teacher, her the one that has a horrible taste in men. Another couple is forever engaged and twist, she won’t set a date. Watch the movie, you will understand why, seriously I wanted to punch this guy in the face. He is a paranoid conspiracy nut. We also have a couple that is, ok them I can’t explain without spoiling stuff.

The brunch actually starts pretty ok, until things aren’t ok. We find out the couple throwing this usual brunch are about to get divorced. So when the cable and stuff start going out it is assumed this is just a petty move to be vindictive. This is not the case however. What is actually going on is the our brunch happens to be taking place in the blast radius of chemical weapons. America has been attacked.

The weird part of all this? The movie is a comedy. Quite a decent one I might add. The movie isn’t amazing by any means, but it is worth a watch. There also some pretty good plat twist that I won’t spoil. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Spider-man sequel title announced

spidey ffh tease

After Avengers: Infinity War I’ve had a lot of people ask how Spidey and Black Panther and others are getting movies still. Well, that’s the magic of comics. So a couple days ago, Tom Holland was shown with the new title of the the sequel to Spider-man: Homecoming , Spider-man: Far from Home. Obviously this can mean many a things. Will Spidey be stranded on Titan, having to find his way back to Earth? I doubt it, mainly because I’ve heard a lot of buzz of Mysterio being the next major villain we’ll being seeing as well as a lot of buzz about the story being centered around a field trip to London, if I’m not mistaken. Either way, it’s extremely early but it has been confirmed Spider-man: Far from Home will be the first movie in Phase 4 of the MCU. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Kingdom Hearts 3

The time is almost here, Kingdom Hearts 3 will release January 29th 2019. People seem to be really excited. Maybe its the long wait, or the amazing graphics. Regardless Sora, Goofy and that useless bastard Donald are back, and hopefully he has learned how to heal people on time. I have my doubts tho. There seems to be a lot of new features and new worlds this time around, the new worlds have me excited the new weapons not so much. I am open to it being pretty cool, but the idea of the Keyblade transforming into other weapons doesn’t quite have me sold. Either way finally we have some answers, some game play and not long to wait. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Predator, trailer 2

I came back on one hell of a good day; we got a really epic new trailer for the fourth Predator movie. I liked what I saw for the first The Predator, trailer 1 but I love the second trailer much more. The tone reminds me a lot of the first movie, including the crude joke on the bus. The Predators themselves look incredible. So far, I totally dig the story idea but as I stated in the last trailer review, I’m not a fan of the title of the movie but that’s just a weird hiccup from me. I’m excited as hell to see some badass action and some epic level gore this September, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Death Stranding

A game From Hideo Kojimo that for the longest time nobody knew anything about, and at E3 we finally got some game play from and now we know, basically still not much about. But Norman Reedus carries a baby around. There is a video that I will of course share later. The game play is a bit weird, a lot of time walking as a delivery guy avoiding something. Kinda looks like hand prints forming in the ground fast forwarding time. Look its Kojimo, there is going to be some weird and awesome shit.

The weirdest part tho, is that character seem to be some how immortal unless these invisible creatures kill them. The babies that are carried around in the jars seem to act as some sort of sensor system, which is quite interesting in itself but the real question for me is this. Can I weaponize this baby? Seriously that is the whole reason I want to play this game, to see if I can weaponize a baby. So enjoy the video and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

StarCraft (Retro Review)

Oh StarCraft, you make me feel so damn old. I remember playing you to the early hours of the morning. Both on PC and the Nintendo 64. Hell me and a friend figured out it was possible on the N64 to build 36 nukes as the Terran then pretty much fill the screen with their explosions. It was a good time for all. I mean not the place you dropped them, that was dead. The game itself is a real-time strategy game where you build troops as one of 3 very distinct races, the humans known as Terran, the insect like Zerg or the technologically superior Protoss. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses so pick your poison and practice away, I always liked the Protoss personally.

The game is amazing and to this day has a heavy online community even in multiplayer, tho most people have moved on to Starcraft 2 or the Remaster of the original. You can play the original for free however, and there is no reason not to at least try it out. the game still is a lot of fun if not graphically  inferior to look at, I mean it is about 20 years old. It is still fun to play and not bad to look at compared to many games from its time, and its easy to see why all these years later it is still big online. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Jurassic Park Evolution Review

See that sleeping T-Rex? That is my first T-Rex, Rexy. Cute lil guy isn’t he? He decided to go for a walk because he didn’t like his specially made area and eat people. So I make him take a nap, took a picture and put him back. He was apparently really pissed off about the lack of trees in his fenced in area. So I put more trees in there and woke him up. He busted out again and ate more people. Now he was mad about way to many trees. This happened 2 more times before I sold Rexy. I don’t know who the hell I sold him to, but I sold him.

This is the kind of thing that happens, Dinos break out occasionally and kill your guest for weird reasons. It was actually part of the fun. All the dinosaurs look amazing and go about their days and have things they like and dislike, and if they are unhappy long enough they break out. I still haven’t kept a T-Rex happy enough to stay in his cage. The game is a blast but has plenty of issues. For example until you create one of these beast you really have no way of knowing what it wants in its pen.

There also isn’t much of a way of knowing what it will or won’t live with or how many it wants in its pack. For example some carnivores want a few to play with. Others simply want to live alone or don’t have a preference. Some herbivores will panic and try to escape almost immediately without others of its kind around. Some species also simply don’t get along, raptors for example seem to hate everything.

I also have no idea why if you help 1 of the 3 factions more than the other ( security, entertainment or science) the other 2 might start sabotaging you by giving dinosaurs random illnesses or shutting off your power. It makes very little sense that people who work in your park for you and will die themselves would sabotage their own stuff.

Minor issues aside the game is a lot of fun, tho I do wish I had the option to run the sandbox island with the money on or off. It’s cool to just build whatever I want however I want, but for me part of the fun is setting up a successful part, and with unlimited funding that is pretty much kills that possibility. Is the game worth buying tho? Well yes and no. If you love sim and business management games, this is a fun game that fills a spot like nothing else. It will also appeal to dinosaur and Jurassic Park fans. For most people however, definitely wait for a sale. A solid 7.5 our of 10. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
