A Kingdom for Keflings

download (4)

Every so often my daughter will ask for a game on my Xbox and I will buy it for her because I am a gamer and I understand seeing a game and just wanting to play it. Sometimes I will then play that game myself. Enter A Kingdom for Keflings.

So after seeing her play I start messing around with it, kicking villagers building some stuff because why not. Slowly I start to notice, the game is actually an odd amount of fun. As i start to expand and chop down trees, build houses, see more of these little people show up and build more stuff for them that leads to more things to build I slowly notice that I have in fact built a small kingdom for my Keflings. Now I must admit this game doesn’t have much to it. There isn’t an invading horde coming after you, or really even a reason to build the kingdom except they basically want you to build them one. You are essentially a giant in a world of little people. Their god if you will. And you are just nice enough to help them out. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

Ok so while The Matrix Reloaded was good, nobody thinks it was as good as the first for the most part. Taking place 6 months after the first movie we now find ourselves  watching a romantic relationship between Trinity and Neo, the attack from the machines on Zion, Agent Smith going rogue and a whole host of other things to numerous to mention without confusing the hell out of people that have not seen the movie. Seriously there is a lot going on in these movies, I won’t even try to explain it. You even find out Neo isn’t the one because there were 5 before him. That technically makes him the Sixth realistically. The movie is still good, but its less about making you think and more about making this new world seem more real than it was. It succeeds quite nice by the way, it is just a lot to take in and I still would recommend watching it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Matrix (1999)

Today I realized  this movie is almost 20 years old,and that upsets me. This movie also changed a lot in movies, namely everyone and their brother using that bullet dodge move Neo does, you know the one. We aren’t getting into it right now. We all now the story, computer hacker meet beautiful woman, computer hacker wants a lil something something if you know what I mean, computer hacker gets a choice between 2 pills, computer hacker discovers his entire life is not what it seemed.

The entire purpose of this movie is to make people thing, to question what is going on around them and to ask, what is reality and how would you know what is real and what isn’t? I think, there are plenty of theories out there. Regardless this movie that brought us memes and long black coats is still to this day discussed for a reason. It looked beautiful, sounded beautiful, had a rich and engrossing story and all these years later is still meme worthy. If you haven’t seen it by now you need to, and lucky for you the trilogy is on Hulu. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

May the 4th be with you!

star warsempire strikes backreturn of the jedi

May the fourth be with you all as we celebrate Star Wars day. For every nerd, all it takes is that opening title of “a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.” and the thunderous John Williams score and all so legendary title to send our blood rushing and light up a smile on our faces. During our trip to Last Jedi, the crowd cheered and roared applause before the damn movie could even begin- that’s a rare thing, I can sure as hell say that. Star Wars inspired me so much as a kid; without Star Wars I don’t think I’d be the same kind of writer I am today. Dynamic characters you can’t get enough of, epic battles you can’t stop watching, and a special message: no matter how small and insignificant you seem, you can change the world. Before I leave you with links to our Star Wars collection so far, I beg every nerd to stop and remember the lessons the series has taught us, and go out to make the galaxy a better place. May the gaming gods bring you glory and may the force be with you.

Happy Alien Day!

Happy Alien day everyone, the second best holiday in my year ( yep, I’m that kind of nerd.) If you have followed us for a while, you’ll know how huge of a Alien fan I am. Aliens was the first or second movie I ever watched, scarring the hell out of my psyche but inspiring me for decades to make my own monsters and pay it forward as the saying goes. Later today, I’m covering Aliens: Dead Obit, the latest Dark Horse graphic novel and at the bottom I’m listing links to every, yes EVERY Alien post I’ve ever done so please check them out and may the gaming gods bring you glory and spare you from the wrath of the perfect organism…

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale series

gotg telltale

I can’t say I’m a fine connoisseur of Telltale games. In fact, the only other I’ve actually played was Tales from the Borderlands  which was awesome and Savior told great things about Batman: The Telltale Series and The Walking Dead Telltale Season 1 . Essentially, if you played any of the others, you get the gist of this: point and click with a story that will tug on your heartstrings. We follow our favorite Guardians (Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot.) as they come into contact with a mysterious artifact called the Eternity Forge that can revive anyone back from the dead. I’m not going too deep into the plot to avoid spoilers but if you love the characters you knew in the movie, you’ll love this game. It is not a movie game though it tries like hell to ride the vibes of the movie. It is a slow burn but satisfying by the end, just keep going with it during the slow parts but does feel bloated at times. It’s not a great game, but it’s not terrible and you get a free Platinum upon completion; I recommend it if it’s $10 or less. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Of Mice and Sand Revised (PS4)

of mice and sand

The other day I am rummaging thru games just looking to send some of my girlfriends hard-earned cash, with her permission of course. She is cool like that. That is when I see this game, that some how I had no clue existed. Now I had no choice but to buy this weird has hell looking game. Its mice, traveling the desert looking for El Dorado. Yea that is what is going on here.

The graphics are as basic as basic get, and honestly that is a good thing. This actually helps the game, these simplistic yet cute graphics actually add a certain charm to the game that many titles today are missing.

The sound is also quite honestly well below what most titles today offer, but again it is good enough especially at the price point the game is offered and again it really does just add to the charm.

The game however can get a bit repetitive, just like any other city builder. Make no mistake by the way, that is exactly what this game is when you boil it down. As you travel from out post to out post running into various situations that I won’t spoil for you, there will be rooms and items to build.

All in all tho for $10 the game is a blast, looks and sounds charming and is simply addictive to play, I had a lot of fun and will for a the foreseeable future. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Flashback: A Retrospective Review — RetroboyJon’s Game Stuff

With the upcoming release of Flashback on the Switch, I think it’s time we revisited the original, it’s one of my favourite games of all time and one of the most original games released. Honestly. It really is. I first played this when I was about 12, I borrowed it from a friend for the […]

Rampage 64: World Tour

rampage 64

With the new Rampage film coming out in theaters, it’s only fitting we get to talk about an oldie but a goodie. We play one of three experiments gone wrong: George the Ape, Lizzie the Lizard, and Ralph the Wolf as they tear through the world wreaking buildings, fighting the army, and eating people and food. That’s pretty much it in a nutshell. It’s a simple game that’s fun as hell. Climbing buildings like King Kong and breaking them down with your bare fists or scooping up the denizens of the world. I freaked out as a kid being being able to kick a car like a football. There are funny things too like if you eat toxins, the monster comically barfs. The game does have classic couch co-op and looks pretty good for the time. The only royal flaw is how repetitive the game is to the core. As I said, the game is simple but fun and worth a fun, especially with friends. May the gaming gods bring you glory as you wreck the world your own way.

Tera (PS4)

tera

I don’t normally play MMO’s to be honest, a little guild wars, some World of Warcraft and a bit of Neverwinter. Now I know that sounds like quite a few, but I haven’t put a lot of time into them. Maybe 60 hours across them all and that is high balling it. I am far from an expert on the subject.

With that out-of-the-way, I am having fun with Tera. The game looks nice and plays pretty well. Admittedly inside of cities the game does suffer from some lag issues, but that is more annoying than anything that messes with game play. The combat is similar to most action RPG games where you are free to move around and your skills all have cool down times associated with them, all of which is pretty par for the course.

All the MMO staples are here as well, you can get mounts and pets, many that will collect items for you. There is no monthly fee and the game is free to play, as such cosmetics and skins cost a decent amount of money and there is a $15 a month upgrade you can buy that gives you a 100% boost in experience and gold as well as a discount on the micro-transactions.

The story is a bit cliché, starting out next to a special tree. Helping some special kids you quickly find out you are also special and will be chosen to help save the world, of course. It is still quite interesting, but nothing new. With the game being free to play tho on PS4 and Xbox it worth a try even if you aren’t big on MMO’s. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
