Ok, so long time followers know I love Marvel’s First Family. I wrote a piece a while ago about what I wanted from them in the MCU ( What to do with Fantastic 4? ).
They’re here, along with bringing Silver Surfer and Galactus into the MCU. I love the vintage vibe the movie is going for. Ebon Moss as the Thing looks perfect. Galactus is perfect so far. I like the golden age costumes. There’s a lot of potential but the more I think, the more I’m afraid of this thing. While not as wretched as Fant4stic, I’m still seeing a huge uphill fight for this thing. I think. Starting with Surfer and Galactus is very risky. The 4’s crap track record adds anxiety as well as the serious dip in MCU quality in general. The first test screenings being meh don’t really help either. Time will tell but I am still cautiously excited. May the gaming gods flame on!
I want to talk about hype for a moment. How many times have you seen a piece of media hyped up to a level that ultimately killed your enjoyment? Maybe it was shoved down your throat, maybe the final product wasn’t for you or just meh? I went into Sinners expecting a solid vampire romp with some heart, maybe some laughs. The questions are what did I get and was the hype warranted?
It’s a small Mississippi town in the Jim Crow era of America. The Smoke Stack twins, 2 local troublemakers, have returned to their hometown to begin a new blues club for the weary black community. They recruit the best the community has to open their new club, including there young cousin Sammy, a gifted musician. The club is a hit opening night. Sammy is a hit. All seems well until a odd trio of Irish musicians show up, politely asking to be let in, led by the friendly Remmick, preaching equality through music. They are turned away. Throughout the night, things slowly unravel for Smoke and Stack as they learn the profits aren’t weren’t what they hoped. Maybe they were too rash sending the Irish away, all they wanted was to be family after all…
Ok, no bullshit, this movie is phenomenal. The movie is first and foremost about music and it does it exquisitely. There’s a lot of blues, Irish folk, and fusion throughout as the movie progresses; the music numbers are fantastically performed by an extremely talented and enthusiastic cast. Michael B. Jordan is outstanding as the twins. The vampires have a badass design, and Remmick is a really cool villain. Ryan Coogler, director of the MCU Black Panther movies, puts his heart and soul into the setting and costumes as well as his appreciation of black culture, while still giving us a pretty awesome action/ horror movie. I haven’t been this inspired leaving a movie theater since seeing Oppenheimer . It’s rare to see movies, or any art in general, where the passion is palpable. It’s contagious. Sinners is an example of dedication and talent coming together under one banner that I can’t recommend enough. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
I’m cautiously optimistic for this one. I’ve been a longtime fan of James Gunn, even before his time with the MCU. The last DC cinematic universe imploded so there’s literally an entire cinematic universe riding on this movie. Corenswet seems like a more human Clark and I do like the energy he seems to have as the Man of Steel. I like what I saw of Lois, Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrefic, and Lex Luthor. I’m not sure how I feel about the Engineer as the main baddie but I do love everything I’ve seen of Krypto. There have been some leaks that I pray aren’t true or at least seriously overplayed about the main plot of the movie because so far I like where it’s going. Time will tell. How in the hell did we get a sequel? Normally, I’d start with a synopsis, but truth be told, there isn’t much of one. Marshall and Washington reunite begrudgingly to take on a new syndicate and Tommy Wiseau. I just explained the movie and saved you a lot of boredom.
Samurai Cop 2 misses a lot of what made the first great. There is bad acting and garish effects but nothing that reaches into the legendary WTF territory as the first. The pacing is atrocious. Halfway through Savior and I kept asking when it would be over. Tommy Wiseau was…Tommy Wiseau and though he’s the final villain, he is too annoying to be funny. There are a lot of callbacks that don’t go anywhere. In the end , forget this movie exists and stay with the original. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
When the violent Katana Gang goes too far, it’s up to 2 mispaired cops to bring them down: the laid back Frank Washington and his partner Joe Marshall, the Samurai Cop, trained in Japan… ok let’s stop there.
Samurai Cop absolutely earned its legendary status in B movie culture. It’s got everything a bad movie can ask for: Godzilla-style dubbing, random sex scenes, hilariously bad fight scenes, WTF dialogue, porno level level line deliveries and hair that is clearly a wig. This movie is a laugh riot that thankfully doesn’t try to take itself seriously. Savior and I had a blast reciting lines from it between laughing our asses off at the bad fights and the mankini scenes. There’s not much to say for this Lethal Weapon knock off except it’s a damn fun time with friends that lives up to B movie legend. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
You know a movie’s WTF when you have a hard time finding an actual cover for it on Google. Savior and I really have to reevaluate how we pick our movie day watches anymore…
We begin with a familiar scene, a young woman being chased by a masked killer through the woods. She has visions that allow her to defeat the clown-masked psycho. After beheading and tossing his mask into the lake, all seems over…until the spirit of the killer finds a lonely sea bass, transforming it into a shark with a clown mask as it starts a new killing spree…
I might have made this sound better than it is. Going in I was hoping for another Graveyard Shark but alas, no. Not to say it ain’t still funny. The shark is stock footage with a clown mask superimposed over it. The computer effects make each kill with it look like something out of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which admittedly was my favorite part. Sadly there’s not much clown shark in Camp Blood Clown Shark, but instead, a killer who skips around like he needs to shit- which is funny in itself but not as funny as the shark. The downside of this movie is it feels way longer than it really is. Clocking in at 70 min, it feels almost full length and I got bored way too many times for a movie this short. In the end, it’s meh as far as C movies go- thankfully not as boring as Fraternity Demon (1992) but there are definitely better WTF C movies out there. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
King Tchalla is well known as the wise, noble, ingenious king of Wakanda as well as it’s protector, they mysterious and legendary Black Panther. King Tchalla and his enigmatic entourage have come to New York after a little girl was found murdered after receiving aid from a publicized Wakandan charity. Hotshot State Dept. Everett Ross is tasked with accompanying the group, unaware the King is on a revenge quest that will sweep through not only Brooklyn but bring Ross and the Black Panther face to face with Mephisto himself…
I was curious how Marvel Knights would treat Panther. I mostly wasn’t disappointed. After the bright, CGI-filled movies of the MCU, it was refreshing to see an angry, badass Black Panther beating his way through thugs. I found this book’s take on Ross to be sleazy and just hilarious how unprepared for this kind of shit the guy is- Ross in his boxers hanging out at the apartment with Mephisto was straight-up comedy gold. The villain of the book creeped me the hell out. One of my complaints I have is the pacing is off. I wish there was more detective story and stayed more street level. Leading up to Mephisto’s involvement was really cool but I felt like the story rushed it’s way there. By the end I felt lost and had to reread chunks, swearing I missed something somewhere. The art is solid but not particularly memorable. The dialogue and writing feels dated, which does add to the comedy but I’m sure if it was intentional or not. In the end, it’s a solid book but I wouldn’t recommend as a newcomer’s first Panther read. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
So you’re on the verge of adulthood, sitting on your ass gaming while your sister gets baked when the aliens come. Next thing you know you find a talking gun, a crippled alien bounty hunter and before you know it you’re out in the cosmos blasting through an intergalactic cartel of aliens who what to ingest humans, the ultimate high.
Ok, so the timing of release bit this surprisingly fun sci-fi FPS platformer in the ass. It might have been announced during the height of Rick and Morty’s astronomical popularity, being written and voiced by the creators of the hit shit, but by the time it was released, Justin Rowland delivered the deathblow on a dwindling empire. Hell, considering he voices Kenny, your first gun and a main character of the game (exactly as he voiced Morty at that) maybe enough to turn you off. If Rowland’s involvement or Morty’s constant chatter is more you can handle, I get it.
Beside the unpleasantness of Rowland’s involvement and hearing Morty’s voice squawking at you nonstop, you’re going to want to scream at the insufferable humor in the early game. If you’re fan of season 4 of RnM and up, it might not bother you but I found the insistent swearing and crude humor annoying. You can cut weapon chatter in the settings thankfully and as the game goes on, it gets much more tolerable and actually funny and engaging.
The game is actually pretty fun once you get your hands on your second talking gun. Every gun is a living alien that has 2 firing modes that are fun and unique. The graphics are pretty eye-catching and the music has a nice, retro sci-fi kinda feel to it that I really enjoyed. Despite becoming a bounty hunter, the game remains tight without many side missions, instead opting for many collectibles. The boss battles are fun and quirky with good rewards. The game is a fairly quick play at roughly 8-10 hours which suits it just fine. In the end, it’s a pretty solid game once you get past the cringy humor that tries shoving itself down your throat the first hour or two. I think it’s worth a try. Honestly if you have ever seen any Romantic Comedy with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston you know what this movie was about. Adam got his heart broken by a woman, he does some insane shit for years.
He meets Jennifer Aniston,this time she works for him. He meets a woman he actually loves, he convinces Jen to help him fix the horrible situation he created. Some will they won’t they ensues.

The movie has its funny moments but the real star here is just the overall chemistry that Adam and Jennifer have. I always enjoy their movies together because they just seem to enjoy being around each other. It would be super weird to find out they actually hated each other at this point. Shout out to the kids for playing their parts well. The movie is a must see for romantic comedy fans. It doesn’t break any new ground,but it does the entire genre well. So I know I am a little late here but I FINALLY got around to watching the Twisted Metal show on Peacock. I have to be honest much of what they chose to do I didn’t really expect but I still loved it.
The story is about John Doe, who drives his car Evelyn on delivery jobs. This is known as being a Milk Man. Interestingly in the Games John Doe drives the car Roadkill, but this show takes place prior to the Twisted Metal tournament. The object of season one is to get from New San Francisco to New Chicago and back.
On his journey he will meet a ton of people and groups,some from the game tho many of them have interesting takes to them. For example Mr. Slam earned his name not because he drives a piece of heavy machinery and slams people but because slams his massive dick into fruit as a show for the people in his bar.
There is also an original character named Quiet,and she makes a nice counter character to John because he never shuts up. I really enjoy Stephanie Beatriz alongside Anthony Mackie as they have great chemistry.
Another character that surprised me with how well he was done was Sweet Tooth. Physically he is played by wrestler Samoa Joe and this is done great,his mannerisms truly come off as insane. Will Arnett does an equally great job in the voice. And I truly enjoy that he isn’t psycho just to be psycho,if you pay attention his actions actually make a weird sort of sense.
All in all the 10 episodes are all worth watching and with Season 2 just confirmed to be in the works, it’s a great time to check this out if you haven’t already. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
