Red Dead Online Beta First Impressions

First, let me get this out of the way, this is not meant to be an all-encompassing review. This is just my first impression of the first couple opening hours. Do not take this as gospel. There is a lot of stuff to do and it would be impossible to get it all out in a timely manner. So keep in mind some of what I say I may change my mind about later, plus it is really just a beta.

That last part I mean, it does suffer from many of the things a beta does. For example, a few friends complained about being kicked off multiple times. One couldn’t even play when she should have been despite playing day one. There are also reports of people just being toxic trolls similar to what you run into in GTA tho I personally never experienced it, so keep that in mind as well.

There is a lot of good tho. I had a blast hunting with friends and doing missions. The story is also nice and takes place prior to the events of the main game. I love that much of the main game aspects are in the online game such as animals running around and people. The missions are easy to find or you can just go into the menu and pick one. The missions are pretty standard, mostly kill each other and races.

There are a lot of things I still want to do and try, but so far I am pleased with what I have played. It is pretty much what I wanted, Red Dead with my friends. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Alien Blackout Could Be Revealed Soon

Variety and many others are reporting that 20th Century Fox has trademarked the name Alien: Blackout. There have also been some hints that maybe it will be announced at the gaming awards in December. Either way, this should be good news for Alien fans, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Beyond the Beyond, The Game I Enjoyed That People Seem To Hate.

download.jpg

Beyond The Beyond is a game I played as a kid. I liked the characters and the turn-based battles and just the graphics at the time. The game isn’t perfect and is well known for having an insanely high encounter rate, dungeons that were long and insufferably annoying and even had a character that spent half the game cursed and was pretty much useless. All of this is true, and I enjoyed it anyway.

Don’t get me wrong, all the criticisms of the game are warranted and have merit. You really couldn’t walk 6 feet without a battle and god forbid you wanted to simply attack with Sampson, the guy I mentioned was cursed the entire game. The story was also cliche and cliche comes. A child turns out to be the chosen one, fights a great evil that is controlling an empire. Nothing special at all, yet I still loved the game, and I can not truly explain why. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Alice In Wonderland (2010)

alice 2010

I’d like to take a quick moment to talk about a hero of mine, Tim Burton. The man gave us some genuine creepy, funny, and heartfelt movies throughout the years. When I heard he was doing a version of Lewis Carroll’s classic, and Johnny Depp was going to play the Mad Hatter- a actor I used to love by the way- this movie quickly became one of my eagerly anticipated. As many would say, Burton’s quality has nosedived over the years, so where does Alice lie?

Alice was a little girl with a sunny smile and strange dreams. Ten years later, she’s nineteen and depressed after losing her father. Life is dull and kind of crappy; her mom wants her to be ladylike, she’s getting pushed into a marriage with a boring snob, and her sister’s perfect marriage is a lie. The snob proposes to her but she runs away, tripping down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. Sadly, Wonderland is not such a safe place for Alice, full of beasts and the tyranny of the big headed Red Queen. A prophecy unfolds around Alice told to her by a smoking caterpillar that she would be the one to free Wonderland and restore the throne to the White Queen, but she refuses and is confused why everyone acts like they know her. Were her dreams dreams after all?

Many blame the decline of Burton’s quality on this movie and in some ways, I see that. Burton’s tropes are heavy as hell in here: Johnny Deep and Helena Bonham Carter, the dark, goth pallet to the color, and everyone is super pale. Oddly enough, he doesn’t make so much of a WTF story here as you’d imagine and the source material demands but the story feels like a simple epic with Alice characters tacked on. I really like the score and visually the CGI is cool to look at. Depp as the Hatter stands out but mostly the characters are on the verge of flat. In the end the movie isn’t bad and worth watching but it isn’t Burton’s best. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Civilization VI (PC)

With the new expansion coming soon, called Gathering Storm, my friend got quite excited and wanted someone to play with. So with Black Friday sales abound I get an email on steam, turns out my friend decided I was the one to play this game with. I was a huge fan of Civ 2 and Revolution and I put a little time into Civ V so I am hardly a noob in the series, but this one is quite a bit different.

First, very few upgrades are built in your cities. They now are built by aptly named builders, units with limited uses. Districts are built in tiles around your city, just like farms and such would be. Another addition is governors, each one has their own abilities and skills to help run your cities.

Outside of a few of these finer points, the general idea of the game is actually quite the same. Build units and towns, grow your empire and win certain types of victories tho now you can win a religious victory. For me personally, I have enjoyed this Civilization game more than most and I suggest picking it up. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Alien: Blackout trademarked

alien blackout 2

I can’t say there’s many games I’m looking forward to many games in the near future but when it was announced Fox trademarked “Alien: Blackout”, a new game somewhere in the Alien universe. While I highly doubt it’s going to be set after Alien: Covenant , I personally think it would freshen up the Xenomorph in games if we saw some aspects of the prequels involved like the black ooze and the mutations they bring. I wouldn’t be angry if the Neomorph made another appearance in the series. Another thing that would be awesome if some of the Kenner toy designs made an appearance as a new means of enemy types.

Essentially what I want from Blackout is nothing from Aliens: Colonial Marines ; I want a game with challenging, varied Aliens, a good story, and a some good action. While I love Alien: Isolation I do think the next step would be to show how intense a gun fight with a Alien can be. We have a long wait ahead but I can’t wait to see we get. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Black Man, White Woman — Master Mix Movies

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner is one of the first movies to depict an interracial relationship/kiss. Since the 60’s was the biggest decade for change. So of course Sidney Poitier is the actor they chose to play the black man in the relationship with a white woman. Like his other roles in 1967 (To Sir, […]

Rick and Morty season 3

rick and morty 3

After the sad conclusion to Rick and Morty, season 2 Rick found himself incarcerated for his countless crimes against time, space, reality, and even versions of him and his grandson Morty. Meanwhile, Beth and Jerry’s marriage crumbled as well as Beth’s concept of her own existence, leaving Summer to try finding refuge with some new ” questionable” friends and Morty becomes too aware of how much he can’t remember…oh and Rick turned himself into a pickle to escape family consoling. PIckle Rick!

Season 3 continues the trend of being outrageously funny and deep at the same time, which will always be the show’s greatest strength. This season I really started to feel for Beth, especially during FroopyLand. There’s a few episodes that are slow but for the most part I laughed my ass off the whole way, especially the Pickle Rick episode. If you loved Rick and Morty, season 1 and 2, you’ll love the 3rd but I do recommend starting from the beginning because there is continuity to the show. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
