Anna and the Apocalypse trailer

A little known fact about me is I have a weird taste for musicals; I love WTF musicals however, not really the traditional kind. Anyone who saw Repo the Genetic Opera will get what I mean. Anyway, so a zombie Christmas musical and already I’m invested.I’ll be happy if it makes me ask WTF and gives me a new song to sing in my travels. I’m looking forward to it, may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Supernatural Season 8

download

Supernatural season 8, as you can see I am blasting through these at a decent pace. This season covers what happens when Dean escapes from purgatory after a year and comes home. He also brought a friend, a vampire.

Season 8 will see a lot of things happen, it’s another season really used to set up the next big story arc of the series but this time it is done much better. We will see Cass become a hunter, learn it is possible to slam shut the gates of hell forever and even find about an angel tablet and Metatron, the angel that wrote the tablets. There is a whole lot more going on but as always I don’t want to spoil things. All things considered this is a strong season that sets up season 9 and will leave a lot of unanswered questions. Until next time, best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Red Dead Redemption

red dead redemption

Red Dead Redemption is one of those rare games that truly deserves to be called a masterpiece. Whether you want a game where you can inflict your own sadistic whims out on others and just enjoy yourself, you surely can; if you want a clever satire that’s thought provoking and deeply character driven in ways so few games are anymore, it’s that too.

Red Dead Redemption is a former outlaw on a mission: hunt down his old gang and kill them. Not for revenge though, but because a shady government man tells John Marsten that they have his wife and son. Through this huge journey through the old west, we understand who Marsten was and the kind simple man he wants to be who just wants to be left alone to raise his family. But can any of us ever escape the past?

There is so much to say about this game.  The huge, twisting, sprawling story was my favorite part. The characters felt so human and authentic it was impossible not to be invested in them. The gameplay runs damn good. Shooting is simple to pick up but challenging to truly master, especially on horseback, but you’ll feel badass once you do. I like the blend of western drama, dark comedy, and fiction throughout; there’s a truly sad side mission with Sasquatch that almost made me tear up. The game has so many unique side quests and mini games that are engaging and fun it’s so easy to keep entertained. The graphics were amazing for the time and hold up damn good to this day. In the end, I couldn’t recommend this game more and needs to be tried. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

American Horror Story: Roanoke

ahs 6

With Cult coming to Netflix and Hulu soon, I found it time to cover one of the stranger entries of the series. Unlike the previous 5 seasons, the 6th takes it’s method of story telling in a new direction…

Shelby and Matt were a loving couple who move into a secluded home in North Carolina after befalling a tragedy. After outbidding some rednecks, they seem to be on there way to there new happy life but things aren’t as they seem. Like many hauntings, there are strange and lurid sights but it’s not long before the spirits of the savage settlers lead by the Butcher descend upon and lure the daughter of Matt’s troubled sister, Lee, away for sacrifice. By the skin of there teeth, Shelby and Matt escape manage to escape with the girl and leave that horrid place. They tell there story and it becomes famous from the reenactments. Real life drama breaks up Shelby and Matt, but they get an offer neither can refuse- journey back to where they fled for a new reality show with the actors that portrayed them. Will there story prove real?

Essentially I feel Roanoke is 2 stories in one. I enjoyed the first half of the show a hell of a lot more than the second half. The first half is the accounts and reenactment of there first encounter. I liked the history and disturbing imagery. The second half is the reality show which is meta and offer suffers from shaky, found footage tropes at times. Overall though, I liked the season but I couldn’t help but feel it dragged. The performances are great and its filmed really damn well but the found footage aspect annoyed me a bit and the second half drags some. Still, it was a good season that tried something different. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Graveyard Keeper

download.jpg

Graveyard Keeper is an odd game. The game starts off with you at a store, in the modern day. On the way home BOOM. Dude is hit by a car. After talking to what I assume is death you are tasked with digging up a friend to help guide you on your task. What task is that do you ask? Well as the name implies running a graveyard, which you will do very little of the time. Seriously I spent the opening hours of the game talking to people, chopping down trees, killing some slimes for the local smith. All sorts of things, and yes some of that was to fix up the graveyard. Mostly tho, it was not.

The game is fun and demented in its own way. For example do you do things the right way to sell meat, or do you get a fake seal and just hack parts off dead bodies the donkey brings you and sell that to people?  Yes you can sell people human mean from corpses. Eventually you can also open up the church and get some money and such that way.

The game also has some bugs to it, some are quite major reportedly and that seems mostly on the Xbox version but the PC version as well and yes that does include some that will require you to restart your game. I haven’t had any issues but they are reported pretty reliable from many places. The game is a lot of fun, but it isn’t the most polished game out there and it can be pretty grindy at times. I don’t regret buying it and I have no issue recommending it to people that enjoy the style of game, but it is a very niche game and is not for most people. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse trailer

After the American Horror Story: Apocalypse teaser we learned that season 8 was going to be dealing with the horrors of radiation and the Antichrist. The trailer shows that as rumored, there will be a lot of crossing between the Murder House and Coven story lines. So far I like a lot of the scenery and the plot seems fitting for the show ( I was afraid they’d try Mad Max style apocalypse). In the end, I’m anticipating a good season. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Halloween trailer 2

Summer is gone for 2018 folks, not the heat exactly, but the season is gone. And soon it’ll be time for tricks and treats galore- and the return of a beloved holiday buddy, Michael Myers. I was in love with Halloween 2018 first trailer and damn if the warm fuzzies didn’t carry over to the new trailer. I’m thrilled to see Michael stalking the streets again and I love the gritty take on a angry, vengeful Laurie Strode. the boogeyman is back after 40 years, and he finally came home.

One Last Shot (1998)

One shot is a short film by Mike Clattenberg which most of you know from Trailer Park boys. It featured the characters Rickey, Julian and Mr. Lahey and told the story of Rickey and Julians last day together before Rickey moved to Vancouver.

At first I thought the movie wasn’t very good but I realized it wasn’t really fair to judge a 20-year-old short film shot by friends and 3 guys to harshly. Sure Clerks is basically a cult classic but that is equal parts genius and fluke to be honest.

One last shot was actually fairly well put together, the scenes make sense and for a black and white film the lighting is actually well done. At no point did I feel like the dark parts were overly dark or the light taking away from anything and the acting while a bit bland at times didn’t exactly feel stiff. It just felt like what it was, people who loved movies that wanted to make one and get some experience and honestly that showed. I have seen much higher production value movies feel less heartfelt and honest than this did. Its only 30 minutes and it very much worth checking out if you are a fan of his or the Trailer Park Boys (which I am not) best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Graveyard Shift

graveyard shift

If Pet Sematary was my first introduction to King’s work, Graveyard Shift- circa the short story collection Night Shift – would be my second. The story, while brief, is about a textile mill with an massive rat infestation. They practically pour out of the floors and walls, but what happens when you try to exterminate the pests? A freak of nature lurks in the catacombs under the dying mill, a creature half rat and half bat. After grisly deaths happen at the mill, a new guy in town, the girl he falls for, the bastard foreman, and a group of workers have to journey into the basement to clear the rats, only to find the beast underneath…

This is basically a B movie creature-feature from Stephen King and it’s pretty solid. The story is quick with some good atmosphere and it’s got a darker ending then the movie, though the movie ain’t exactly cheery by the end. As for the movie, it’s a decent horror movie. There is some fair kills of some pretty forgettable characters and the creature doesn’t look bad for the time. Brad Douriff is over the time and funny as hell as the exterminater but I’m kind of pissed his character doesn’t really go anywhere. If you are scared of rats, this movie will terrify the hell out of you but other than that, it ain’t a bad movie. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Supernatural season 7

download (6)

Season 7 of Supernatural brings us another big enemy with the Leviathans, the beings that were here before the Humans. Cass brought them out of Purgatory with him, and when the renegade angel turned god puts all the souls back into Purgatory they decide not to go, and they of course are not peaceful.

We will also see out dear brothers Sam and Dean dealing with the loss of their dear friend Bobby, tho he is a ghost. I don’t want to spoil much but at this point the series has hit a sort of pattern. That isn’t bad, but we basically see the same thing here as the last couple seasons. Sam and Dean fight, bad guys do stuff. Sam and  Dean make up, bad guys die, this sets off a reaction freeing the next bad guy or incident that pushes the series along. You will see the same thing here with the defeat of the Leviathans and the consequences that follow. The season is still good and I enjoyed season 7, but that pattern can not be ignored. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
