Our Favorite Movies Day 12:Child’s Play

Day 12 brings us a class, Child’s Play. By now most of you know this story. Killer dies, uses Voodoo to toss his soul into a Chucky doll., kills people. The formula has worked for decades now. This is also the only horror movie I can honestly say I shared with my father and all of my kids.

It is also worth noting there My Buddy dolls when i was a kid and mine looked just like this creepy bastard. I once tied a knife to it and threw it at my brother. Yes it was a real knife, yes I got in a lot of trouble and yes he punched me. This movie however having released in 1988 has about 30 years of history with 7 movies in all, and no signs of stopping. Glass trailer 2

I’ve become a huge fan of this series over the past year after loving Split and Unbreakable and I’m glad this trailer shows a lot more of Mr Glass. I like the idea presented of the Beast being an anti-hero sort of character; I think the showdown between Dunn and Beast will be epic as hell. This movie is shaping up to be a awesome trilogy ender and I’m still super pumped for it. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Our Favorite Movies Day 11: IT (2017)

It (2017) Yes I will say it, feel free to hate me. IT 2017 is far better than the original. I thought this when I checked out 2017 in the theaters, but recently I went back and watched the original and it was legitimately painful to watch. 2017 made this list for being both a great movie and a movie that surprised me most recently. I thought this movie was going to be horrible. From the fact it would be split in 2 to not Tim being Pennywise made this a recipe for a bad movie. What we got however was an amazing movie any horror fan would be doing themselves a disservice skipping. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Pet Sematary trailer

I wasn’t expecting a trailer so soon after images were released of the new Church, which kind of creepy considering he looks like my friends cat. The book and original movie for Pet Sematary is one of my favorite horror story. That being said, the original film was pretty damn close to the book so I can’t think of many ways it can get closer. The thing about the kids with animal masks is weird and while the cast is good, I can’t help but think it feels too Hollywood. Also, the jump scare with the truck made me groan. I cant say shit though because I was one of those people who originally said the IT remake was going to blow, so I’m going to keep an open mind. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Our Favorite Movies Day 10:Birds(1963)

Alfred Hitchcock made quite the simple movie here. Birds for some reason attack people. The magic of this movie is that we have all seen birds just hanging out, and I dare you to watch this movie and not wonder if those birds sitting on your cloths line or power line are going to kill someone.

That is why this classic is on the list for me. It was probably the first horror movie I have seen that made me think in the real world this stuff could happen. And I know @torstenvblog in real life, we hang out and drink together, and have worked together at real life jobs. The dude is semi afraid of birds and I mean that legitimately. Not like outside terrified of them, but he got one in his house and me and 2 other friends had to go over to his house and get them out. His reasoning was he saw Birds. That is a 100% true story that happened this summer, and that is why this movie deserves to be on the list. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

5 movies Pg-13 killed.

After Venom I started recalling many movies that shared a similar problem- how neutered they felt because of a Pg-13 rating. Movies like The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises did wonders with it, but there are simply some movies that need a all or nothing approach like we need water to live, so in no particular order, since we were on the subject let’s begin with …

venom 2018  1. Venom-

The most recent offender on this list, Venom was clearly supposed to be R rated. I’m not saying drop the F bomb profusely or it needed nude shots but I feel some of the gore could have stayed and a more disturbing graphicness regarding Brock fighting the creature would have added weight to a meh movie.

spawn 2. Spawn/ Spawn: origins –

This is a obvious cash grab but a real dumb idea. Spawn is pretty much Pinhead from Hellraiser and the Punisher in one edgy, brutal package. How in the f$ck is that Pg-13?

suicide sqaud 3. Suicide Squad –

Structurally this movie follows much the same pattern as John Carpenter’s Escape from New York- which wasn’t pg-13 either- and involves some pretty heavy DC bad guys as it’s main protagonists. I wished they kept the initial darker tone and stopped trying to be fun and trendy and let it be the violent, maniacal,  dark comedy it was meant to be.

Welcome back Sony! I wanted to take a break from superhero movies even though Sony tried like hell to make this one to build the King cinematic universe. This hurt because they are my favorite books and a lot of what makes them R rated is what makes them so unique.

wolverine origins 5. X Men Origins: Wolverine –

This is arguably one of the worst superhero movies ever made. Wolverine has a gritty, violent bloody history full of war and slaughter- the man is a bladed, nearly indestructable murder machine for crying out loud…well, at least we have Logan

 

Well that is my list of 5 movies that killed by the pg-13 rating. I do feel I’m missing something, something that has burned me awful so here is a bonus 6th entry and may the gaming gods save these poor movies…

avp 6. Alien Vs Predator-

Well the tagline doesn’t lie, we do surely lose. How in the fuck does a movie full of chest bursting aliens and warriors that notoriously rip spines out of people and blast holes through people get a pg-13 rating? It’s not good when a 12 year old kid says this shit aint right.

Gotham season 5 trailer

Despite how much I love Batman I would love Gotham but I’ve never really liked much of what I’ve seen from it. I was impressed at the amount of villain cameos I saw like Firefly, Scarecrow, Riddler, Mr Freeze, and Mad Hatter to name a few. I’m not a fan of the idea of Bruce Wayne being really young. The final season looks pretty good and for the fans I hope its a good send off. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Our Favorite Movies Day 9: Jason Goes To Hell

Jason goes to Hell: the Final Friday Is our day 9 favorite horror movie. It is also another movie that is a damn liar when it comes to the title. Tho this movie made the list because for me the ending was iconic and was really our first confirmation that a Freddy Vs Jason (Jason’s side) would actually happen. Just seeing Freddy’s hand rip Jason’s mask down to hell to me was amazing. Me and friends used to debate as kids who would, and that was the first time we saw them together in any capacity. The movie itself was also pretty solid but the ending? That secures it a place from me. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Thanks to a special friend of the blog, I got a chance to see what’s been a pretty divisive superhero movie. The trailers have been a roller coaster and frankly reviews haven’t been great after a sour taste left because of it’s Pg-13 rating. How does it fare after the rating and 40 minutes cut?

Venom is the story of controversial reporter Eddie Brock’s fall from grace after getting slammed by a evil corporate head. Carlton Drake, head of the Life Foundation, sent a rocket into space to retrieve samples of alien life to further humanity’s evolution and future. These symbiotes require compatible hosts to survive. Drake is having his forces capture the homeless  and use them to experiment. Brock, wanting revenge for losing almost everything he had because of Drake, is given a opportunity for revenge and comes in contact with one of the creatures. First comes hunger, than spasms, and a guttural voice only he can here and before long he realizes while not in control, this thing is powerful and deadly. “We are Venom”

So, what I’m going to say is going to say will be strange but this movie sucks but is also awesome. The first 40- 50 minutes were a struggle. Venom himself is the true star in the movie. His scenes are nearly spot on perfect. The action scenes are violent and really well done. Eddie Brock I’m sorry to say wasn’t done well. Tom Hardy tries but his character wasn’t written that great. In fact I can’t say any of the human characters were great but the worst is Riz Ahrned as Drake who is one of the worst villains I’ve scene in a movie in a while- the guy seems too nice and is never actually threatening. The second half of the movie is awesome but the first half drags and tries too hard to be funny or emotional.  In the end the movie is almost the precise definition of a 5/ !0 movie, both really great and really crappy  at the same time. The Worst Horror Movie I’ve Seen, 11/11/11

Every so often I see a bad movie. Its kind of the nature of the beast, I also occasionally play some real crap games. It happens and I accept that. It isn’t very often I see a movie i consider a complete waste of time tho. This one tho, probably takes the cake in the shit sandwich department. Seriously, this thing has a huge 7% on rotten tomatoes and I feel that might be way to high. If you care about the god awful story you can read about it on Wikipedia but I don’t even suggest that. It is about as cliché as it comes and revolves heavily around the date being 11/11/11, no longer believing in god, a child being the Antichrist and I am fairly sure there was an Indian burial ground in there as well.

The acting, the script the whole movie was just bad. There really weren’t any redeeming qualities to speak off, just don’t watch this movie. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
