A few days ago we finally got the first real look of Joaquin Phoenix as Joker via screen test from directer Todd Phillips of the Hangover trilogy. I personally really like the look, going for more of the Heath Ledger vibe- simple but realistic and unnerving. It’s definitely a step up from Jared Leto’s look in Suicide Squad and I’d say it’s a good step in the right direction. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

The Witch 2015
The Witch (2015) is an odd film for me. It involves a family on a farm who have lost a son and is being tormented by a witch. As the movie goes on this family in the 1600’s becomes more and more paranoid.
I won’t get into to many specifics on the movie or its story because honestly the fun of this movie is deeply dependent on not knowing much about the story itself, and I worry by telling you too much I will spoil the experience. The acting is well done and as a period piece it is actually one of the best I have ever seen. As far as I can tell most of not all of ti was filmed using natural lighting or at lighting for that time such as candles. The clothing choices also seem to do a very good job of matching that as well.
The sound of it all is also rather nice, with the actors doing a fair job at talking in an older dialect of English. I do however have a few issues with the movie. First off the movie can only sort of be called a horror or thriller movie since it rarely attempts to do either of those things. There also wasn’t too much excitement to be had. The story was interesting, and the last 20 minutes or so was great but I would have liked a little more.
The movie itself however is only worth watching for certain people. I don’t mind a slow-paced period piece so for me it was a pretty good movie. The story was interesting and the religious zealousness was pretty well done. However, for those looking for a fast paced and exciting horror movie, this is not what you are seeking. Epic Dumpster Bear: Dumpster Fire Redux
I have to thank Savior for introducing me to the crazy ass game. Seriously, this is literally Goat Simulator level WTF. The plot is simple, but dare I say epic. You play as a bear whose home was destroyed by a greedy conglomerate and forced to eat out of dumpsters- but no more! He’s on a epic adventure for bears everywhere…see what I mean?
The game is a old fashioned Mario style plat-former that’s tough but fair. There’s a lot of obstacles and while you are a bear, you only take 2 hits before you die. To kill enemies, you primarily have to jump on them, unless you have the army helmet power up, then you can lob bombs at them. Some power ups include a fish head which gives you double jump power via farting and the army helmet to kill enemies and blast away obstacles. The game is simple but challenging. Every world gets harder but I never felt it was impossible. I don’t like that you slip when you run like you are on invisible ice which causes some bullshit deaths- by the way, there is only one checkpoint per stage so you will be repeating yourself a lot. I love the wacky blend of 3-d rendering of the bear and the vintage style graphics. The game is fun and funny as hell and I highly recommend it as a old school or WTF game. Supernatural Season 11
And here we are, season 11 of Supernatural. We are catching up fast guys, I may need a new show soon. This is the season where we get to see the showdown between Amara and Chuck. This can also be known a the Brother/Sister showdown between God and his sister.
The season is on and off in terms of excitement. In terms of lore and back story however there is a lot to unpack and its a great time to do it. This season also bounces back and forth between hunting regular monsters and the main story dealing with Amara herself.
You won’t run into the big G himself until about episode 20, from there things move pretty quick. I won’t spoil any of those things for you but that is where season 11 goes from on and off to simply amazing. At one point the end seems a bit meh only to discover it isn’t even the end which honestly I liked. This season tho definitely was an interesting one in terms of story. Space Jam 2
Unfortunately for many the joke that Jordan is better than Lebron because Lebron never helped the Looney Tunes save the world is about to end. The long since rumored Space James 2 is no longer a rumor, but is a fact. According to Hollywood Reporter James and Ryan Coogler (director of Black Panther) will be setting out to make the world a better place, through basketball. Personally I am hoping for a Jordan cameo of some sort. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Mortal Engines trailer
I found this trailer while watching a certain movie for this blog and I was pretty intrigued. I’m a sucker for steampunk dystopian settings. Apparently this is the first of a series of books, much doesn’t surprise me but the trailer made me interested to want to look into it. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
The Death of Dead Rising 5
It was recently reported by Screen Rant that the Vancouver Capcom studio will be closing, and part of that closing will be taking Dead Rising 5 with it. The last iteration was met with mixed reviews and five seemed to have been meant to largely ignore its story. Sadly we now may never know, unless of course this zombie game somehow rises from the dead. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
New Suicide Squad: Pure Insanity
Amanda Waller, one of the grayest characters in DC, heads Task Force X, aka the Suicide Squad. In Pure Insanity, we begin with her being removed from the spot and hot shot politician Vic Sage. Sage wants to reinvigorate Task Force X by making some radical changes to the crew. for one, he enlists the help of super mercenary Deathstroke to provide support for the team, despite the antagonistic relationship between him and Deadshot and against Waller’s strong wishes as well as the new criminal calling herself “Joker’s Daughter”, which pisses off the already unstable Harley Quinn to say the least. Joker’s Daughter and Deathstroke aren’t tagged with the accustomed nano-bombs. The bright side is the crew has Aquaman’s nemesis Black Manta. The team’s mission- infiltrate a Russian facility on there soil while fighting deadly robots. After the team dissolves into madness, Deathstroke betrays them, Deadshot is damn near crippled, and Manta takes charge, they are thrown into service, this time aided by ninja Manbats and notorious Flash villains Captain Boomerang and Reverse Flash, the team is sent to infiltrate a lab in China experimenting with creating Meta Humans. Waller has her luck cut out for her as bad decisions and the madness of the Suicide Squad threatens to damn them all…
This book is a good example of what I loved from the Suicide Squad movie without the dumb shit. The stories are fast paced but there’s still some great character moments- especially from Waller, Harley, and Manta. Manta steals the show in my opinion; this was my first real experience with him and he quickly won my heart. there is some good dark humor and a lot of action. In the end, if you’re new to DC or the new 52, this is a good solid place to start. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
Cleveland Browns Snap 19 game Winless streak
Its Christmas Eve 2016, I only have 2 kids. The Savior Gaming blog doesn’t exist. Donald Trump hadn’t become President yet ( tho he had won the election) and the Las Vegas Knights have not played a single Hockey game yet. This is just some of the things that were going on the last time The Cleveland Browns had won an NFL football game (for my overseas readers that is American Football) 18 games straight they had lost. Then the tie the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cleveland celebrated like they had won the Super Bowl. There were drinks, and parties. Totally serious. They had managed to stop one of the top NFL teams from beating them and were excited.
This week they played the New York Jets. The fans are excited, the team is excited. Surely they gave the Steelers a run for their money, they can beat the Jets a good but far weaker team. Right? It didn’t appear so. Late in the game the Browns were losing and it was business as usual, until it wasn’t. The Browns had tied the game.
A bit later the Jets with 9 minutes to go had retaken the lead, and this is a situation the Browns had been in many times in the past 19 games. But not this time. No this time it seems like the gaming gods themselves has written this ending. The Browns wouldn’t dominate to break this streak. No there were dropped passes and a penalty costing the Browns a game winning touchdown. The excitement and fear ended when the Browns finally took the lead, and a pair of interceptions at the end of the game let them keep it. What was last seen in Christmas Eve 2016, the Browns had won.
Now I know this is a gaming blog that covers general nerd things like movies and comics. And don’t count on me covering sports, tho I do watch them. Hell I am an Eagles fan and mock the Browns like most other football fans. This however was a story that was too good not to tell. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
PlayStation One Classic
It has been speculated for a while that Sony would be releasing a Classic version. Well that speculation can stop, it is official. Come this December, and for about $100 you can get 20 classic PlayStation games packed into a smaller version of this system including Final Fantasy 7 and Wild Arms.
