Mass Effect 3

mass effect 3

Continuing after the events of Mass Effect 2 Shepherd has returned to the Alliance on Earth and Cerberus has began running amok. If that wasn’t troubling enough, the Reapers have began harvesting more races and changing them into monsters. The story begins with the unimaginable, the Reapers descending on Earth, obliterating Alliance HQ and Shepherd, traumatized by the devastation watches as the clock starts ticking. Generations of conflict between races  must be settled if any race across the universe is to survive, but can Shepherd unite entire worlds in a seemingly hapless war when time is short and the Illusive Man still lurks around…

Mass Effect 3 has been said to be one of the biggest disappointments in modern gaming and arguably it began the decline of EA’s reputation. Of the trilogy, I admit its the weakest entry but still an awesome game. The opening is awesome in it’s sheer scope and sets up an emotional final entry. While you get a smaller roster of characters as you’re allies this time, with the exception of one, you have prior relationships with your team. Many for the characters you’ve encountered through the trilogy come have satisfying conclusions and throughout the game there are some great tear jerk scenes. Gameplay is still fun and fluid but while in the Normandy, there are some new check points that slow you down all of a sudden. It’s also kind of point less that they have a stealth take down mechanic but I rarely found a time to use it. The ultimate endings are meh but as I see it, with such a epic build up, its rare a ending could have matched the hype. In the end, it was a solid end to what many consider one of gaming’s greatest trilogy. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Happy Mothers Day

The title on this one really says it all. Today is mothers day, and I know more than a couple of my readers are just that, mothers. I also have kids of my own and a mom, so this short post is dedicated specifically to them. We may complain about you and your constant whining and nagging, but we appreciate and love you anyway, mostly because if you didn’t nag us we really would forget most of what you keep telling us needs to be done. Enjoy your day, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

IT Chapter 2 teaser

I have to admit I was surprised the trailer didn’t drop during Pet Sematary 2019 but after an extremely tough week, it was a nice surprise. I adore the choice of starting the trailer with adult Beverly and the old woman and slowly letting the suspense build. Like the first part, I’m glad they aren’t showing much, which helped immensely the first time. I can’t wait to float this September with Pennywise again, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mercy Black (2019)

Mercy Black is a 2019 horror movie over on Netflix that takes place 15 years after two girls stab another in order to summon a spirit known as Mercy Black. Marina Hess is finally released by her doctor and moves in with her sister Alice and son Bryce. It isn’t long before she is reminded of her past tho when Alice’s boyfriend Will who is interested in writing a book starts asking questions and Bryce discovers the truth.

Worse yet, after spending years discovering Mercy Black isn’t real and she was sick, Bryce now hears and sees Mercy. I don’t want to say much more because there are a lot of twist and turns and a rather odd ending that you will probably see coming a mile away anyway. The movie is getting pretty mixed reviews, IMDb gives it 5.0/10, Roger Ebert a 1.4/5 and Rotten Tomatoes a 33% (28% audience) tho Google users have it at a respectable 78%. Tho as you can see, it is mostly negative reviews.

I see why it is having this effect, most of the movie falls flat and fails at being scary the vast majority of the time. The acting, however, is nice and the ending is pretty interesting if not predictable. If you like B movies, by all means, check it out, but don’t go into this expecting anything other than that. Just a B horror movie. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Crawl Trailer (July 12th)

This July we are getting exactly what we need in 2019, a movie about alligators that show up during a hurricane in Florida. Honestly, I feel like most of the movie was given away in the trailer, but hey who knows, judge for yourself. I personally think the movie looks pretty bad. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Final Destination 3

fd3

It’s been a while since I dug into the Final Destination series and why not resume with the entry that was originally in 3D. From the mid to late 2000’s, 3D made a decent comeback for one reason or another and with Death’s wacky antics, 3D was perfect.

Wendy and a group of her friends and classmates are at a carnival before graduation. Wendy is taking pictures of everyone having fun and all is well. Finally they decide to hop on an intense roller coaster. Wendy has a vision of how things will go horribly wrong and after  getting kicked off the roller coaster, they come to find out it was true. Death is coming for the survivors but can the photographs she took help save them?

Final Destination 3 is pretty much the same formula as the first and Final Destination 2 . Much like the others, it’s not going to scare anymore. You are basically coming for goofy deaths and over the top characters and it delivers. Whether it’s watching 2 Paris Hilton wannabes getting cooked in a tanning bed or getting crushed by a falling sign after a villain speech. I can’t say I liked any of the characters and without Tony Todd’s cameo, there was 0 dread. You can’t really notice the 3D except for a few brief moments in the roller coaster sequence. In the end it’s a forgettable sequel but is fairly humorous. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

After Burner Climax (Mobile)

As we all know I try to check out the Sega Forever games when I get the chance to see how the function. The general idea is you fly a jet and blow up other jets, pretty simple. The sound is pretty much what you would expect from a Sega Genesis game and so are the graphics, but that isn’t why you are here.

Does the game function. The answer is yes, the controls are simple. Your left thumb will control the plane in all directions using the touch screen and your right thumb will control your missiles and guns as well as a slider that can make you go faster or slower. There isn’t really much to the game, but it is good to kill some time with tho, so if you just want a simple game to screw with on the bus this one is worth checking out. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Mass Effect 2

mass effect 2

There are very few times in life when lightning strikes twice, especially during story telling. Mass Effect was an epic space adventure with fascinating lore, great characters and cool side stories woven throughout. The first game ended with Shepherd preparing to set off to fight the Reapers, and here the saga continues.

Right after the events of the first game, the Normandy finds itself under attack by a new threat: the Collectors, a race of creatures feared and forgotten with time. There weaponry is far more advanced and there attack swift, the Normandy is destroyed and Shepherd is dead…but not for long. Years later Shepherd is recreated and brought back through scientific means by the Illusive Man, the head of the human elitist group known as Cerberus. Cerberus is widely known as the terrorists and villains but the Illusive Man can’t deny the threat the Collectors and the Reapers possess. Shepherd must reunite with  old allies and search out new scientists, convicts, soldiers to face the Collectors while under the flag of Cerberus…

While I admit I wasn’t a fan of the death and resurrection of Shepherd, the game is superior to the first in almost every way. Martin Sheen is fantastic as the Illusive Man and steals the show for me. Game play is drastically improved with more options and a great variety of allies to help you make some awesome combinations. The Collectors are a creepy enemy with a cool origin. The new characters are awesome while the old characters grow in some fascinating ways. Mass Effect 2 is an outstanding sequel I can’t recommend enough. May the gaming gods bring you glory.

Stick Fight The Game

So I am sitting at home and I get a text from my friend Gaming with Noobs shoots me a text and says hey have you heard of this game. So he tells me about it and when I sign into Steam he has sent me a copy. So I send him thanks and check this out and all I can say is, what the hell did I play.

The game is exactly what the name says. You will control a stick figure and control other people that are also stick figures. The game is also physics based, with the objective being mainly to throw people off the side but you can also hit them with boxes, or shoot them with snakes that somehow come from guns or a rocket launcher type device.

The game is simplistic, requiring very few buttons to play. It is also hard to master and is a throwback to when games had one simple goal. To be fun, and that is what this game is, fun. The game has a 9/10 on Steam and with very good reason. It is cheap, easy to learn and is just a good time for all. Definitely check this one out. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
