In pretty significant news for RPG fans on the Xbox and Switch as reported by Kotaku a whole list of classic Final Fantasy games are coming in 2019. This includes Final Fantasy 7 Final Fantasy 9 FF10 and 10-2 along with the ever divisive Final Fantasy 12:Zodiac Age. Lets be honest, the Mega Man series in recent years has been far from great. The glory days have long since passed and fans have been dying for a reprieve. @torstenvblog played Mighty No. 9 (first impressions) and was not happy with what can only be described as a Mega Man rip off. I couldn’t be bothered to play it myself even tho it was a free game from PSN after he told me how much he hated it. Suffice it to say, going into this demo I had very little faith this would be good.
To start there is a new mechanic, that admittedly I thought I would hate. You can basically slow down time or power up your weapon for a short period at the push of a button. I found the time slow more useful but the ability to hit a little harder when needed was nice. The L2 and R2 buttons on PS4 were my favorite add-on with being able to switch between robot powers at the push of a button. They have really streamlined many things in Mega Man 11, for example the triangle button just calls down Rush Coil for you. Now I know many things aren’t exactly new, but they function better than ever and are far more useful than ever before.
Graphically the game is beautiful but a bit cartoonish. I don’t mind this at all but I can see a few people being bothered by this. The sound is great as well but honestly all of this means nothing if that great Mega Man feeling isn’t there. I am happy to say by the way, it is. Less cheap deaths than the old days, but they are still there. You will be jumping and sliding through boards, shooting new and classic enemies. Honestly this is shaping up to be the best Mega Man game in years. Don’t believe me? Give it a shot yourself. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
The conjuring 3, another movie in The Conjuring Universe is expected to start filming net year according to Screen Rant. With The Nun having just released and Annabelle 3 expected out next summer it seems like we are in for at least a couple more years even tho the movies seem to be less and less about telling the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren and more about simply creating a horror series. It was recently revealed that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles will be remastered for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The original was released for the Gamecube and was multiplayer but was honestly a bit odd in that it required everyone to have the GameBoy Advance. Thankfully this time around you won’t need that, so look for that in 2019. Check here for more details.
In other Final Fantasy news that honestly at this point shouldn’t surprise anyone, it seems like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be missing from the Tokyo Game Show. This most likely means there won’t be any real news and definitely no release date until 2019 at the earliest. To me tho the FF7 hype train is long gone and even most hardcore fans like myself don’t seem to even care. At this point we simply watch as this dumpster fire unfolds. Now before this gets started I am in no way claiming any of these games are the actual best games of this generation, tho for one of them the argument can be made. These just happen to be my personal favorites, and as usual in no particular order.
7 Days to Die Revisted I have always had mixed feelings about this game but honestly I have put way more hours into it than I care to admit and I have had a blast with it and friends. Me and my daughter also have spent a lot of time with it because she loves zombies and building things, so it has a special place for me. It isn’t the best game out there and it has many issues, but for me its a favorite.
Stardew Valley is basically Harvest Moon back when it was good. The game is simply amazing, even more so when you consider it was made by one guy. When you want to simply relax, this is a great way to do it. Do a little farming, some fishing or even hunt one of the mines. As a fan of the original Harvest Moon that never got to play the game until the N64 version ( I later went back and played the others) it was great to go back and relive that fun.
Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition is a game that was at first on console basically broke to the point they delisted it, rebuilt it from the ground up with another company, then gave it away to the original buyers for free. The PC version and Enhanced edition however function well and if you are a fan of space and science and have an interest in this sort of thing there is a lot of fun to be had here. Admittedly tho most people will not enjoy this game.
BloodBorne review anyone that follows the blog had to know Bloodborne would make an appearance here. As part of the soulsborne series this is the only PS4 exclusive, it also happens to be one of the best in the series in my opinion. There will always be some debate as to which game in the series is the hardest or the easiest, but for me Bloodborne will probably be my favorite for a long time to come.
Persona 5 may actually be the best game this generation in my opinion. The story and graphics are amazing, the combat is about as flawless as it comes, in fact the game is as close to as perfect as a JRPG can come. Obviously no game is perfect, and every game has its flaws and this is no exception, but for me if you want to talk about best game if this gen this game has to be in the conversation if you want that conversation taken seriously. Going in to the Battlefield V beta. There has been a lot of talk about a lot of things but honestly, this is really just a good-looking battlefield game. The controls are almost exactly what you would expect, tho I will admit the begging for help to be revived when you get killed annoys the hell out of me. But the shooting feels nice and the graphics looked great.
Another major problem that I hope they fix,is the match finding. I spent as much time finding a match as I ever did playing and if that isn’t fixed the game will be in terrible shape. All in all tho my honest take away is if you have always enjoyed the Battlefield games you will enjoy this one, but from the beta I don’t see this one changing that opinion. Hunting Grounds is the story of a father, Roger Crew (Jason Vail) and his son Michael Crew (Miles Joris-Peyrafitte) that have come down on their luck after a personal tragedy, which not such a big spoiler, mom died. They do have a place to stay thankfully, Will Marx (D’Angelo Midili) has a cabin way up in the woods for them to crash in.
When Will comes to check up on his friends and brings king douche canoe Sergio (David Saucedo) the weekend should be simple. Some drinking, some hunting and things will be on their way. The problem is Sergio is a complete jackass, tho David plays this role amazingly well. Mike is a complete sissy and Sergio is happy to point this out, and that basically never changes. Roger is, well Roger may be the worst dad ever. Will is a nice guy tho.
The story is pretty standard tho, family outing goes wrong, monster starts terrorizing them. The monster itself, which i won’t ruin, also isn’t even all that original but it is rarely done which I liked. The problem is just about everything about the movie is pretty bad. The characters range from extremely whiny and annoying (the father and son) to just over the top nice. (Will) The movie just isn’t good. I’m not sure if it’s the actors or the script or the horrible looking monsters, but the movie is not something I can suggest watching. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
One shot is a short film by Mike Clattenberg which most of you know from Trailer Park boys. It featured the characters Rickey, Julian and Mr. Lahey and told the story of Rickey and Julians last day together before Rickey moved to Vancouver.
At first I thought the movie wasn’t very good but I realized it wasn’t really fair to judge a 20-year-old short film shot by friends and 3 guys to harshly. Sure Clerks is basically a cult classic but that is equal parts genius and fluke to be honest.
One last shot was actually fairly well put together, the scenes make sense and for a black and white film the lighting is actually well done. At no point did I feel like the dark parts were overly dark or the light taking away from anything and the acting while a bit bland at times didn’t exactly feel stiff. It just felt like what it was, people who loved movies that wanted to make one and get some experience and honestly that showed. I have seen much higher production value movies feel less heartfelt and honest than this did. Its only 30 minutes and it very much worth checking out if you are a fan of his or the Trailer Park Boys (which I am not) best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Season 7 of Supernatural brings us another big enemy with the Leviathans, the beings that were here before the Humans. Cass brought them out of Purgatory with him, and when the renegade angel turned god puts all the souls back into Purgatory they decide not to go, and they of course are not peaceful.
We will also see out dear brothers Sam and Dean dealing with the loss of their dear friend Bobby, tho he is a ghost. I don’t want to spoil much but at this point the series has hit a sort of pattern. That isn’t bad, but we basically see the same thing here as the last couple seasons. Sam and Dean fight, bad guys do stuff. Sam and Dean make up, bad guys die, this sets off a reaction freeing the next bad guy or incident that pushes the series along. You will see the same thing here with the defeat of the Leviathans and the consequences that follow. The season is still good and I enjoyed season 7, but that pattern can not be ignored. For awhile there The Office was a huge show, and some people still love it. I don’t really get it tho I have seen it. Being born and raised in Scranton Pennsylvania however there are a few things about the show I can appreciate. For example most of the characters saying the city name like a native of the city or that many of the places in the show are real places, many of which I have been. Here is just a short list of them.
Alfredo’s Pizza– Located in the South Side shopping center I have spent many of hours in this restaurant. Not as a customer, it was actually one of my first jobs. I was a dish washer when I was 17. The managers name by the way, no joke, William Riker. Had some good times here, including drinking beer on break with the 3 Mexican brothers I worked with out back. We would go get ice water and dump it out then fill it with beer they had in the trunk of their car. Made work much easier, I miss tho guys. Admittedly we didn’t talk much, they barely spoke English beyond “beer time” and a few phrases here and there included “fucking easy no my friend?”
Anthracite Heritage Museum This is honestly just a place about coal mines, North East PA was a coal mine area after all. There is also a tour you can take where you ride down into an actual mine, they tell you about it, pretty interesting stuff. Don’t do it if you are afraid of enclosed spaces tho. You will be far underground.
Boscov’s And the Steamtown Mall- Both Boscov’s and the Steamtown mall are mentioned in The Office, and if you live in Scranton you have been to both. I actually was a security guard at the mall. Had a lot of fun tossing smart ass kids out on Friday nights. Tho technically “The Steamtown mall” no longer exist, “It’s The Market Place at Steamtown” The Office sign actually was here for a while, still might be, I haven’t been here for awhile. People used to stop by all the time for pics.
This one is actually a list of places mentioned in The Office implied to be in Scranton, that are not. To start, Chilli’s. This is not in Scranton, depending on traffic it’s actually about half an hour away. Another example is Hooters. There is no Hooters anywhere near Scranton. I don’t even know where the nearest one is to be honest. No this isn’t a macho oh I wouldn’t go there sort of deal, I would. When I was in the Army we went to one in Oklahoma City. I just don’t know where one is near Scranton.
Every time this comes up there is an argument. Dunder Mifflin is not a real business. There is no Dunder Mifflin Paper Company you can go and visit. However, the building you see in the opening credits? That is a real place, it is called Pennsylvania Paper Supply Company and is located at 215 vine street. Yes I’ve been there, not because of the show there, if you live here long enough you just end up near it at some point honestly.
